Posted by: Alex - [49341112] Tue, Apr 13, 2010, 16:19

Guru gave the ok for a thread about Fanduel daily fantasy baseball contests. I'm a part time employee of Fanduel, so I'd be happy to answer any questions about it, and would definitely appreciate any suggestions or feedback that I can pass along.

For those who haven't tried daily fantasy contests before, here is the basic idea:

1. Register for the site.
2. If you want to play for real money, make a deposit via Paypal or Credit Card.
3. Pick a lineup of players for today's games within a salary cap.
4. Score points based on your players' performance in today's games.
5. Win (or lose) today.
6. Withdraw (if you want) by Paypal or Check.

The games are completely legal in the U.S. (except for a few states which don't allow them).

You can also try out playing in free games before deciding whether to make a deposit.

I tried it out the first day and I found it way too easy to stack a roster with all-stars based on the posted salaries. (For the cap version).

I found that I didn't really have to think too much to get a lineup together---I would have liked to have been forced to start thinking about weaker options that have a better chance to have a good night based on matchups.

Barilko6 - I actually kind of agree with you...I personally enjoy the challenge of a lower cap. I've been very involved in discussions about the pricing (which is recalculated dynamically each day). We will likely eventually offer contests at several different salary cap levels. The problem is that almost everyone we've spoken to prefers the 'easy' cap. The beginners like it because they want all-star type teams. Most of the experts like it because they want to play against the beginners. We offered two cap levels for basketball and almost nobody plays at the lower cap level. So we'll probably wait until traffic is substantially higher before we give the lower cap alternative for baseball a shot.

Some recent enhancements to the site:
1. A 'clear lineup' button.
2. 'Probable starting pitcher' now indicated.
3. Freerolls are coming soon.

FanDuel - Fantasy Baseball Free Game

An opportunity for new registrants to participate in a free, promotional (Friday) contest offering cash prizes. Click on this banner to register and then be guided to that contest entry.

(Note: if you are already registered at Fanduel, you will not find this free contest - at least until 6pm Friday [so I hear] - as it is currently being reserved for new registrants only.)

I really like the Cubs match-up, and might end up using Soto and/or Dempster as well.

FanDuel is offering a Father's Day freeroll on Sunday, June 19.

After you register and/or sign in, you’ll find the contest near the top as a “Featured Promo.” My sortable stats won’t have exactly the correct salaries for the freeroll contest, but FanDuel salaries don’t change very much from day to day, so they should be close enough. Top prize is a $150 gift card to Darden Restaurants (Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and a few others), with modest cash prizes going to 2nd-9th place. More than 300 are already entered in this freeroll, so you should probably look to take the “road less traveled”.

Another intersting and intriguing game is offered at All American Fantasy. They offer a simple head to head home run contest, where only home runs count. The game lasts 10 days, so there is not the variance of the daily games.
