0 Subject: Home Run Derby 2010 - Pick the Winner (and Losers)

Assuming there have been no changes from the 2009 format:

Home Run Derby Rules
• An out is registered when a player swings at a pitch and does not hit a home run.
• A ball hit over the fence must be fair to count as a home run.

Opening Round
• Each player gets 10 outs to hit as many home runs as possible.
• The four players with the most home runs hit in the Opening Round advance to the Semi-Final Round.

Semi-Final Round
• Home run totals from the first round will carry over to the second round.
• Each player gets 10 outs to hit as many home runs as possible per at bat.
• The two players with the most home runs in the Semi-Final Round advance to the Championship Round.

(Should there be a tie after either of the first two rounds, a "Swing-Off" takes place. In a Swing-Off, each tied player gets 5 swings to get as many home runs as possible. Home runs hit during a first round Swing-Off do not count toward the player's total going into the second round.)

Championship Round
• Home runs from the first two rounds do not carry over to the Championship Round; Opening and Semi-Final Round totals are cleared from the board.
• Each player gets 10 outs to hit as many home runs as possible.
• The player who hits the most home runs in the Championship Round is declared the Home Run Derby champion.

Participants
Jose Miguel Cabrera, Tigers, AL
Jon Corey Hart, Brewers, NL
Matthew Thomas Holliday, Cardinals, NL
Hanley Ramirez, Marlins, NL
David Americo Ortiz, Red Sox, AL
Nicholas Thompson Swisher, NYY, AL
Vernon Wells, Blue Jays, AL
Christopher Brandon Young, Diamondbacks, NL

Your challenge:

A) Pick the two players who will hit the fewest home runs in the Opening Round (not necessarily one from each league): 1 point per correct selection.
B) Pick the four players who will advance to the Semi-Final Round: 2 points per correct selection.
C) Pick the two players who will advance to the Championship Round: 4 points per correct selection.
D) Pick the winner (the player who hits the most home runs in the Championship Round): 8 points per correct selection.
First tie breaker:
• Predict the total number of home runs hit in the championship round (closest to the actual total, whether over or under); if the championship round goes extra pitches, those home runs count toward the total.
Second tie breaker (if necessary):
• Predict the number of home runs hit in the championship round by the winner (closest to the actual total, whether over or under); if the championship round goes extra pitches, those home runs count toward the winner's total.

Entries close with the first pitch to the first participant in the Home Run Derby competition.

Khahan, the two players with the fewest home runs were Young (1) and Wells (2). Holliday was eliminated after the first round but he did hit more home runs (5).
