35 years ago, as a child, i moved to Texas. I became a Ranger fan.

13 years ago, i moved 10 minutes away from Shea Stadium, and became a Mets fan.

tonight, my heart was filled with joy, as the Rangers won their first ever AL Pennant, GMed by a kid from Queens, a life long mets fan.

the euphoria tonight in
the Wild Rooster , where i watched the game here in Fort Worth, is nearly indescribable.

When A-Rod made the last out, we celebrated, we hugged, we cried, we laughed, we looked back at the TV, still not certain it was real. and we laughed and hugged some more, and a girl i don't even know threw her arms around me and kissed me deeply, as if i had been her boyfriend for the last decade.

and then, the bar went silent. literally. it's as if we didn't know how to celebrate, because we'd never been here. really, we'd never even been close. we looked at each other, almost in shock, not sure what came next.

and then, either by foresight or good timing, the bar's jukebox blared that classic song by Queen, and in unison, everyone sang "We Are the Champions."

the girl kissed me again, and i can honestly say i have never seen a happier bunch of baseball fans in my life.

truly, truly, a magical moment in my life as a sports fan.

I concur Tree. I'm only 26, but have been a Rangers fan for as long as I've cared about baseball(about 13 years now) Last night was truly an incredible moment. Its still hard to believe they are actually going to the world series. The respect they have showed Josh Hamilton has been great as well. One of many characteristics about this team that you just can't help but love.

They are an easy team to root for, two of my favorite players play for them, Hamilton and Guerrero. I was really happy that he came through in a big way.

Tree, your story sounds very familiar to my experience with The California/Anaheim Angels.
They finally won a world series in 2002 after blowing two 3-1 ALCS leads twice in addition to a 3rd loss.
I was 42 in 2002 and had been a fan since I was a kid so probably around 35 years.
There is a sigh of relief that the goal has been reached but then a "now what" because you have never been here before.
BTW...I think that same girl kissed me in a bar in California.

I was driving to DFW last night with the family listening to the game.

I was two when the Rangers came to Arlington, so it's not a strech to say I'm a lifelong fan. We went three or four times a year when I was growing up. When I was in high school I would sometimes go by myself when no one else wanted to go.

I was there when Geno Petralli walked in his fourth at bat when all he needed was a single to hit for the cycle. I was there for the final out of a meaningless August game that was delayed two-and-a-half hours by rain. I was there when Nolan Ryan struck out Rickey Henderson in 1989. (Sidenote- My future wife was there, too. She was two sections over in the upper deck behind homeplate. We met in December 1990.) I was there on Opening Day of the Ballpark in Arlington. And I was on I-20 just east of Thurber, Texas straining to hear Eric Nadel through the static when he called the final out the night the Texas Rangers won the American League pennant.

One of my best memories of the night- In the third inning we were passing a Suburban with Texas plates, a New York Yankees license plate frame, an NY window decal, and a chrome NY bumper insignia. I said to the youngest, "Turn on your overhead light and do the antlers to this car we're passing." The deed was done. Afterward the wife asked why. I told her and we all laughed about it for the next ten minutes, especially the youngest.

Never been a Rangers fan....until this year! Primarily, seeing a team going to the series for the 1st time is a great story, beating the Yankees is icing on the cake.

A Rangers/Giants series would create a dilema for me, more of an NL guy, so if that's the case, I just hope for a great series.

If it's Philly, go Rangers!

Congrats to the Rangers and their fans. Had both teams played to their potential, I don't think the series would have ended the same way. But potential doesn't count for anything in the end. Just results. Well done.

Congrats to the NY Giants on last nights win. If the Cowboys had played to their potential, they would be in the Super Bowl. So the Giants are just lucky.

The Rangers dominated the Yankees. They outscored them 38-19. They won their games by 5 runs or more. Good luck to Texas. I hope they do better than the Astros did.
