0 Subject: RIBC 2011: Qualifying leagues

Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Wed, Feb 23, 2011, 13:25

Now that the RIBC managers have been named, it is time to work on forming the Qualifying Leagues.

We will again form two AAA leagues, plus as many AA leagues as are necessary to accommodate interested managers. Each league will have 16 managers. The following managers will have first priority in filling the 32 AAA spots:

1. Teams finishing 8-16 in last year’s RIBC.
2. Teams finishing with at least 80 ranking points in the two 2010 AAA leagues
3. Teams finishing in the top nine of each of the two 2010 AA leagues. (For managers who participated in both a AAA and AA league last year, only the AA result was excluded from consideration.)

This list comprises the following 33 teams/managers:

RIBC 7-16 (9 teams)
Species
TD
JeffG
Dave R
Tosh
Tequila
Tilt23
Goldcoach
JL

AAA (12 teams)
Toral
Judy
Taxman
Nerfherders
Da Bomb
jseth333
Fosten
wazaaap_guy
RoBoGuRu
Blue hen
Bean
Dror

AA 2-9 (12 teams)
Great One
Ken J
Diddy
twilson
mailedfoot
Mike V
Seattle Zen
Team Curry
Jaydog
JetersNRProsper
astade
reebertxx

In some cases, I’ve simply listed the team name, as I don’t know the manager’s name.

There will be only 32 AAA slots available, so although the priority list includes 33 names, if all 33 wish to play, the last one to respond will be out of luck. (Historically, there are usually a few no-shows, so I don’t think that will happen.)

To the extent that we have additional openings available for AAA slots, any manager in a 2010 qualifying league may fill a remaining AAA opening, first come, first served. In other words, start a waiting list!

We will also have as many AA leagues as necessary to fulfill the interest. Managers not on the AAA priority list may begin forming those leagues now. Last year, we had difficulty filling a second AA league, so we may only have one AA league this year.

We already have three returning commissioners who have agreed to serve in this role once again. The two AAA commissioners will be Judy (Yahoo league) and Mike V (ESPN league). The first AA commissioner will be wolfer (who I think prefers ESPN). I invite each of the commissioners to immediately start a sign-up thread on this (Baseball) forum to assemble your league. One each league is filled, future discussions can be moved to the Baseball Leagues and Standings forum.

Each Qualifying League will use the “Draftime” software at Draftime.com for their draft. This is the “new and improved” version of the kafenatid.net “On The Clock” software that we have used in the past. RotoGuru.net will pay the cost of the draft for each QL. By using common software for all leagues, it will be easier to produce consolidated draft analysis.

A few notes about responsibilities and expectations are warranted. If you wish to manage a team in a qualifying league, you should be prepared to meet these expectations:

1. When you sign up, you will provide a working email address to your league commish so that you can be reached when needed. You should also check your league thread regularly, both before and during the draft. Nothing slows things down more than a manager who disappears.

2. You will generally be available during your league’s draft period. If your access is going to be limited, you will make reasonable efforts to use draft queues or designated pickers to keep the draft moving along.

3. You will observe appropriate “professional courtesy” and etiquette in all dealings with your commissioner and other managers in your league.

4. You will agree to remain active for the duration of the season. You will not abandon your team – even if early results are disappointing.

If you are prequalified for a AAA league, do not sign up in this thread. Wait until the AAA commissioners have started league threads, and then sign up in one of those threads for whichever AAA league you prefer. Ditto for AA signups.

If you are not prequalified for a AAA league and want to be on the AAA waiting list, you may sign up below. Be sure to include your email address. Those on the waiting list without an email address may be skipped over.

since my team sucked last year, I only qualified for AA, but in case a spot opens, you can call me up. Thanks!

I'm in for a AA league this year. Will commish it. Unless of course I get called up to AAA. Was primed and ready to go for it until t he last few weeks of the season when my patchwork offense fell apart.

Didn't jump the gun, did you read my post? I'd like to keep my leagues all on the same site this year which is yahoo. I'm not burning myself out visting multiple sites to manage my teams this year. So I posted a AA league with a yahoo hosting.

If my only choice is espn, I won't be playing but I'd love to participate again. I can sit back and wait for something to happen or jump in headfirst and get it done. :)

OK - but if we have trouble filling two AA leagues this year (as we did last year), we may need to collapse down to one.

I will say this. I won't committ to a site right now. I would perfer ESPN, but right now, I would let it up to the league.

In deference to you, if you *are* going to be using yahoo, I'll withdraw my league and sign up in yours. if not, maybe we should clearly state in each league posting that 1 will be yahoo and other will be espn so people can get where they prefer. If we get close to a deadline and need to shuffle people, we can work on it then? sound reasonable?

hehe, seems a few posts went up while I was typing. I'll take mine down for now, join your league and see how the vote goes. seems the simplest way at the moment.

yes, AAA. Every manager listed in the opening post pre-qualifies for a AAA league this year.

re - 7 - I think that with a couple emails to the right people with the amount of fantasy baseball enthusiasts involved in this website we should be able to at least fill two AA leagues.

Based on my latest count, we have 13 signed up for the AAA-yahoo league, and 9 for the AAA-espn league. We have slightly over 16 signed up for the AA league, although some of those are waitlisted to move up to AAA.

I think we have not yet heard from the following people who are prequalified for AAA:
Species
Tequila
tilt23
JL
wazaap_guy
Ken J
Diddy
twilson
Team Curry
JetersNRProsper

We need to get this wrapped up by the end of the week. I'm going to try to contact those who I have email addresses for.

I figured out that JetersNRPRosper is actually Chislow, who has already signed up for a AA league. I sent him an email to let him know he is eligible for AAA this year.

If my count is correct, we now have 15 signed up for the AAA-Yahoo league, and 13 for the AAA-ESPN league. Thus, four AAA openings remain.

We are still awaiting word from four AAA pre-qualifiers:
Tequila
wazaaap_guy
Ken J
twilson

All four were sent an email to their last known address this morning.

The AAA waiting list is as follows:
1. youngroman
2. Valkyrie
3. wiggs
4. Philsphan
5. Matt G

I believe there are currently 16 signed up for AA, but that number will drop if some waitlisters get called up.

[29] Tequila has emailed me to say he will not be playing this year.

wazaaap guy has already signed up.

This means we are only waiting for Ken J and twilson.

Youngroman can move off the waiting list into the ESPN AAA league if he wishes.
