0 Subject: Daily Action 4/8 HOF awaits? Manny Ramirez Retires

He was facing a 100 game ban for PEDs

Red Sox win first game. In order to get to 98 wins, the over for their "over/under", they have to finish this season at a .628 winning percentage. Tall order.

Manny finishes with a career .996 OPS, 9th all-time, six straight seasons over 1.000 OPS.

Career slugging .585, 9th all-time.
Career OBP .411, 32nd all-time.

555 HR's, 14th all-time. 1831 rbi's, 18th all-time.

But all anyone will talk about are drugs and that's why the Baseball HOF is dead to me. I really don't care who does and does not get in anymore. It's a shame.

Manny's career was obviously enhanced by steroid use - why shouldn't they talk about it?

He was facing another suspension?

Never the brightest bulb.

I agree, Razor: If the drugs didn't help his performance, why would he take them? And if they helped his performance, why wouldn't we talk about his tainted numbers?

I'm willing to let steroid era go. It happened. Its done. Players in that time, in my eyes, get treated like players who jacked upon coke or fueled themselve w/ greenies or whatever the drug of whatever era we are discussing was. Im not condoning what they did. But from a counting stats perspective, roid use was so rampant you cannot separate out those who did from thsoe who didn't. It was so bad and so prevalent.

Bonds, Clemens, Palmeiro, McGwire - evaluate their careers on their numbers. Let them in the Hall. Move on.

With that said, we've moved on and supposedly cleaned up. We're not in the steroid era anymore. There is a strict policy in place to make sure we don't revert. And Manny has broken that policy. Twice. Bye manny. So long. Thanks for the memories, but get out. And stay out.

I have no problem with Manny not getting into the Hall of Fame. I do have a problem with keeping Palmeiro or Bonds or Clemens out. I can't really explain it beyond that.

Its a moot point anyway. The hall requires 75% of all voters to put someone in, and clearly there will always be enough people who will NEVER vote a known roider in that it just isn't going to happen.

Either you let them all in imho or you let in none, but I'm fine with keeping them out. The obvious non-roider stars deserve the latter of course.
