(copied from today's blurb)

Today, I’m expanding the universe of covered games, adding Draft$treet. Founded in the summer of 2010, Draft$treet has quickly become a major player in the daily contest arena, with a excellent reputation in innovation, integrity, and customer service.

How does Draft$treet (DS) compare with FanDuel? Here are a few distinctions:

  • DS contest rosters are expanded, with multiple pitchers and 2 utility hitters.
  • DS scoring formulas encompass more statistical factors.
  • DS offers a wider variety of multi-player formats, including regular contests for 2, 3, 6, 10, and 20 entrants.
  • DS offers weekly contests starting every day. So, for example, you can enter a weekly contest that runs from Wednesday through Tuesday. Or Thursday through Wednesday.
This is not to say that Draft$treet is better or worse than FanDuel. Just different. Many players are active at both sites.

As an incentive try out Draft$treet, register by clicking on the banner above (or any Draft$treet link on this site) and you will receive a 40% bonus on your initial deposit up to $100 (i.e., $40 bonus for a $100 deposit). That bonus will then be “earned” as you enter contests at a rate of 20%. So, for example, if you enter a $5 contest, $4 of your fee will come from your deposit, and $1 (20% of the $5 entry fee) will come from your bonus. That means that the first $200 of contest fees will cost you only $160. You could win slightly less than half the time (~45%) and still earn a profit on those contests! What better way to give it a try? And, like FanDuel, you also have the ability to enter free contests, so you can test drive the format for free before deciding whether to deposit money and enter pay contests.

You’ll also notice that RotoGuru and DailyBaseballData.com now offer statistical tools designed to support Draft$treet’s salary, position, and point formulas. The Pitcher vs Batter report now allows you to highlight players based on either FanDuel or Draft$treet positions. There are also new sortable stats and daily point reports customized to the Draft$treet format. I’ll comment more on these features in the coming days.

I did horrible on the weekly freeroll contest, but that did get me hooked on their Free offerings the last few days. I decided to start playing the daily salary cap points format to see how I do. It was just a group of 6, but I won my first forray into the daily contest yesterday picking my offense purely on the batter vs pitcher tool on the dailybaseballdata.com site. (I even got a DNP on my catcher slot, will have to get smarter about day game after night game when selecting that position)

Since I am new to this concept, I can see how there still is a luck of the draw element with the group of 6 I join. Not sure if the 57.75 points I won with would have done well in the other similar groups and I am sure not good enough for the larger pool contests.

Still, it is fun, takes little time to do a quick pick up game, and every day is a reset as I'm not stuck with a mistake past the next day. Will see how my strategy evolves and how it plays out.

I am not sure I am the target customer that DraftStreet is looking for since I am very unlikely to start playing their pay games, I just do not have the gambling bug.

True, you may not be the target demo, but it is still useful to have people playing the free contests, so that others - who may be more likely to graduate to the pay games - have ample competition when they try it out.

I've been entering a $5 head-to-head weekly contest most days, and have generally been breaking even, although I think I've been getting a bit better as I practice.

Just from a gambler's POV, the rake is too high for a luck-heavy game. Its fun, and I can probably see me playing a few pay games vs. friends every now and then, but without the chance to actually make decent $ I'll pass.

I may not be the target customer either though. ;)

So is this game like poker?
When you sit down at the table if you cant spot the sucker.......its you?

I guess that makes me the "target Demo".

Been playing a few games and thus far have been about break even.
I agree with R9 that it seems a bit too random and the fees are on the expensive side. (about double what you pay for sports betting)

I need to check out Guru's statistical tools but I'm wondering how much they can really help when the site is saying they adjust the prices based on recent performances.
Last week I picked up Pujols for $6,239 and he has had a monster week, but this week he is over 9K.

Draftstreet seems to react to recent performance fairly quickly. I should have picked up Pujols last weeks for the contest - and almost did - but I thought he might be a popular choice, and wanted to differentiate with a large field of entrants.

I think a good tactic can be to pick up quality players whose price is low, on the assumption that their recent slump is more random fluctuation than trend.

Tulowitzki might be a good example today. He hasn't been hitting as well lately, but he is coming back to Coors for awhile, and his price is now under $7k in the weekly format.

The prices are heavily swayed by weather the player's team plays 6 or 7 games that week too.
I tried Guru's strategy in the freeroll. I think I have a shot at cracking the top 50. ;)

Every game of chance that is contested between people will have two elements: luck and skill. I'm not sure of the ratio here, but its definitely more luck-oriented then poker. That doesn't mean it isn't fun (actually, as a fun side-hobby its probably better that way) just that I doubt you can make much money off it long-term, at least at the current rake structure.
I think a lower rake could bring in more professional gambler types, but that may not be a good thing. You don't want the rookie learning curve to be too steep.

I put $25 in there to play around with. I like the fact that deposits and withdrawals can be made via paypal.

As you can see from the opening posts, I began the affiliate relationship with DraftStreet about a year ago. It's been a very good relationship for both RotoGuru and DraftStreet. Revenues continue to grow, signups continue to come in, and the structure of the game is one that I continue to like and personally play.

To celebrate our first anniversary, DraftStreet is offering a Freeroll on Friday, May 11 - exclusively for users of RotoGuru and DailyBaseballData.com. The links to this freeroll will only be published on these two sites.

This free contest will be salary-cap style drafting where everyone tries to assemble the best team out of the available players. You will have a $100,000 budget to build a team of 14 players consisting of the following: Catcher, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OF, 2 Utility, 2 SP, 1 RP, and 1 P. Each MLB player has been assigned a price based on their expected fantasy performance. You can adjust your roster up until the contest starts on Friday May 11th at 7:05 ET at which time your rosters will lock and the Live Scoreboard will be available.

The top 5 finishers will share in a $150 prize pool. Only one entry per person.

The salaries for this freeroll will be slightly different from those in the standard daily contests. I'll set up a special version of the sortable stats with the freeroll salaries - but that isn't available yet.

CLICK HERE to sign up for free and register for the RotoGuru / DailyBaseballData $150 Freeroll on DraftStreet.com.
