RIBC Managers: This thread is for your (optional) overall comments on the draft. You may use the questions below as a guide, or simply say what you want to say.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

2. What were your favorite picks? What picks would you like to do over?

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

5. If you could start the whole thing over, would you do anything differently?

Non-managers are also free to post comments or ask questions.

So I'll get this started.

1. I tend to do a good job of picking up pitching off the waiver wire throughout the year, so my plan was to go all-in on hitting, taking only one closer in the first 10 rounds (ideally round 8 or 9) and not selecting a starting pitcher until Round 11. I almost did it, selecting only Yu Darvish in the 7th round but otherwise taking 8 hitters in the first 10 rounds.

2. My favorite picks for my team = Dunn in Round 10 (even though that was early for him compared to other drafts, I think it’ll still turn out to be great value; having missed Uggla by one pick in round 3, I didn’t want to lose out on Dunn, so I went for it. Five more first basemen were selected in the next 20 picks, so it’s not clear Dunn would’ve made it back to me in Round 11); and my round 21-25 hitters. Compared to last year, when I wasted draft picks on dregs, I think I found contributors at the end that aren’t candidates for instant-dropping. Morgan and Seth Smith should be particularly helpful even if they are not everyday starters.

As for other picks, Josh Johnson in Round 8, Ethier in 10, Kendrys Morales in Round 11, Smoak in 17 should all outperform their draft position.

3. I can’t digest all the rosters at this point.

4. Surprise? None really. Everyone here does his homework.

5. Do over?

Not really. Compared to last year, when I took risks on Morneau, G. Beckham, Lidge and Bay in the first 9 rounds. I feel like I’ve drafted for more reliable production this year.

That said, I do have regrets on specific picks: Miguel Montero in Round 8 – he was the last of a top catching tier, but my target going in was Yadier Molina, who lasted all the way until the 17th. Should have taken Corey Hart instead. Glen Perkins in Round 15 – just way too early for him, even if he does finish with 12 saves. If I was taking a reliever here, it should’ve been Romo or Venters, but more importantly, I should not have been picking an unproven non-closer here. By going with Perkins, I lost out on Melky Cabrera, and got Alex Rios instead. Whatever Rios does, I think Melky will outperform him.

Draft position: would’ve taken 14. Post-draft-slot-selection-selection but pre-draft research revealed 18 hitters I’d like to have in the first 2 rounds, and then a drop. By taking position #10, I was not able to get a second hitter from the list, and had settle for Teixeira in Round 2. Had I done research sooner, I would’ve taken 14 and hoped to get some kind of Fielder/Hanley/Pedroia/Kinsler/Granderson combo.

1. This was my 8th season drafting in the RIBC style leagues, so I have my plan and I generally stick to it - best available through first 5 picks, first SP in the 3rd or 4th round, try not to chase MI too early, catch the closer run when it happens. I executed my plan pretty well, but I hated being on the ends of the draft. Almost none of my targets lasted the 30 picks it took to get back to me. Later in the draft I started reaching for players I wanted just because I wanted to make sure I got them.

2. Favorite picks are Pujols, Morales, Weeks, Tabata, Thames. I have obvious do overs - Soria totally wrecked my draft for about 6 or 7 rounds. Then I started desperately reaching for injury prone players I was hoping might turn it around, namely Chipper and Furcal.

3. Not really sure who is better. Everyone at this level is here for a reason - they've had a success in this league.

4. MI flew off the board at a dizzying rate. I'd have a new target every round, that was gone, prompting me to hold to the next pair of picks, and then the next target would go. After a while I gave up, and that is why I have Hudson and Carroll on my team.

5. Oh yeah. See pick #9.03. 24 hours.. just 24 hours and I could have saved that pick and my next 5 picks. Still, I think I have a pretty good team. The offense is not stellar, but the pitching is solid. Barring no major injuries, I think I have decent shot of being top 6. Even if Chipper and Furcal only play 200 games between them.
