As we approach the tradeline its always fun to watch the action.

Ichiro traded to the Yankees for a loaf of bread

and now Hanley Ramirez is wearing Dodger blue

Hanley/Randy Choate for Nathan Eovaldi and prospect Scott McGough.

Greinke to the Angels for a SS prospect and some minor leaguers.

Phillies having a sale: Victorino to LA, Pence to SF.

And now the real pricetag of Jonathan Papelbon rears its ugly head. They traded Pence mainly to squeak under the luxury cap this year. They got enough cash from SF towards Pence's contract to get them under the cap.

When you look at Papelbon's ridiculous contract (he's a good closer, not complaining about him being on Philadelphia or Boston for that matter, just commenting on his contract) then look at what other closers signed for, they are way overpaying him.

I've been saying that since the deal was announced. He never should have gotten that contract.

Word on the air (sources not confirmed):
Rangers get Ryan Dempster from Cubs to reunite him with Geovany Soto, who was acquired up late last night.

If ESPN says so, it must make it official:

Confirmation of Dempster trade to Rangers

And neither Olt nor Profar were part of the deal.

When I posted about the pence trade I had limited information. Just read that Nate Schierholtz went to Philadelhia. Actually not that terrible (still say they wouldn't have done it w/out the albatross of the closers contract). But Philly gets a solid prospect back to build around.

Biggest fantasy impact trade was probably Broxton to Reds. Holland now the closer in KC

Biggest deal of the season involves Adrian Gonzalez going to the Dodgers

Sorry to see him go.

Looks like bobby V and the new ownership are going to be bad for the fanbase.

I think Boston tried to sneak AG through waivers (or, put him on waivers to solicit offers). LA made the claim, then made the deal.

Thats pretty much what happened PD. Not sorry to see beckett go. He's a bit of a problem. But I'm pissed about Gonzalez. As for crawford, I said when he was signed, "love him on the team, hate the contract." At least they got rid of his contract.

But Bobby V is still a problem and still needs to go.

So who's pitching for BOS tonight? Everyone is still showing Beckett.
