Well welcome to the grownup table Blue Jays. There's an empty seat right over here for you... yes that one with the faded red letter B on it.

I assume the grownup table is the one where you need to have some terrible long term deals stuck on your payroll. A-Rod actually has his name engraved.

In fairness the faded B's somehow got something for the "genius" Theo who got them in the mess they're currently in...lol

My first thought with that trade was to add BBs to my fantasy league as I have Giancarlo as my keeper and now there is absolutely no reason to pitch to him in that lineup...
I would like to see the Mariners sign Josh Hamilton or trade for Justin Upton, but they never make intelligent moves like that. Both those guys hit the moon shots needed to get over the fence at Safeco.

I don't love Victorino or Napoli but I do love that they are reasonably short 3 year contracts so the investments aren't like Lackey/Crawford type where they were on the hook for a lot for a long time i.e. 7 years.
And they are both solid major league hitters which is a considerable upgrade over the lineups they were putting out there the second half of last year.

I DON'T understand why the Sox have 4 catchers now... so a trade of someone (Salty?) must be on the horizon.

#7 is pretty much what I was coming to post. I think both are past their most productive years, but at 3 years each it looks good.
As for 4 catchers - Napoli I believe is going to be our full time 1st baseman. Not thrilled about that. I guess he'll spell Ortiz at DH, too.
But no matter what I'd like this line up much more with A-gone still in it. He's my biggest regret from the dump last year.

Mariners sign former Met, a pasty white guy who played college ball in Eastern Washington and is way past his prime.
Bay forgets how to hit for power in a pitchers park in NY... so of course goes to an even more extreme pitchers park. He should be good for a solid 7 HR's next year. With 6 of them coming on the road.

Anyone know of a place that would have the HR's produced by a teams infield or outfield?
Like the 1B/2B/SS/3B of the Brewers produced 120 HR's vs. the Yankees 147 etc.

The only thing left on the Nats' checklist is to try to re-sign Adam LaRoche, though all indications point to the team being willing to part ways if they don't get favorable contract terms.
=== FANTASY IMPACT === Trading for Denard Span will move Bryce Harper out of CF and, more importantly, move Jayson Werth down to a more natural power spot in the lineup. A 1-2-3-4 of Span, Harper, Zimmerman, and Werth seems likely if they don't re-sign LaRoche. I would expect RBI opportunities to increase significantly for Werth compared to last season.
The addition of Haren will make for a very interesting starting rotation. The current projection is some order of Strasburg, Gonzalez, Zimmermann, Detwiler, and Haren. With Strasburg and Gonzalez surely taking the 1-2 spots, Haren could be looking at a healthy number of favorable match-ups with other teams' 3-4 pitchers. If he can stay healthy, a boost in Wins seems very likely.
LaRoche's decision will have a ripple effect. If he signs, then Michael Morse and Tyler Moore will have to find playing time off the bench. If LaRoche doesn't sign, I think the Nats will start the season with Morse at 1B, but Moore will definitely push him for playing time and possibly even take over at some point during the season. Whoever lands in this position will likely be in the 4 or 5 spot in the lineup and have a lot of RBI potential.

Just had Phillies fans trying to tell me they were ok at 3B and Polanco's been fine the last few years.
3 year averages for the combined Phillies 3B players. .242 AVG, 9 HR's, 4 SBs, 64 RBI.
27 HR's over the 3 year span worst in MLB at 3B by a considerable margin. Yeah, solid production right there. Sure.

I am surrounded by Phillies fans and listen to Philly radio unfortunately. They adore and overrate Ruiz mainly... but Polanco is a close 2nd.
I also am hearing how pissed they are that a "future top of the rotation starter" in Worley would be moved for a defensive guy in Revere when they are struggling to find power.

Re #9. "A Gone" is in decline (look at the past 3 seasons and the so/bb/ops). I think what you saw last season is the new normal for him...the Sox helped their payroll out significantly by dumping him.
Victorino is overrated...but if Angel Pagan is a $10m/year man...that's the market value nowadays.
A lot has to do with the tv rights deals via Fox sportsnet. In some instances it brings a team (ie LAD) $40m/year+ (article was in Forbes magazine at the beginning of this year stating how those local TV deals are gonna inflate contract values...)

What a ridiculous trade by the D-Bags. At least get Francisco Lindor for pete's sake. No defense-only shortstop these days should be worth the potential of Bauer.....whom the D-Bags chose over Dylan Bundy!!
Reds came out well....although their defense in CF is really going to hurt, whether it's Bruce or Choo. But Choo's OBP will be sorely needed atop the lineup.
Indians did well.

Hamilton's second half drop off last season was scary. he's also going to be 32 next season, with a history of injuries and a lot of hard living on that body.
and his career numbers outside of Arlington - particularly in the rest of the AL West - are fairly average.

Yeah I don't think either would have been great on the M's and we'll see about Hamilton. Safeco is too big for power hitters, they need to focus on slap hitters, defense and pitching.
As for the Angels they have too much money wrapped up in 5 players. Scioscia better win early or he could be in trouble.

They did the same thing with Torii Hunter. Got every last bit of talent out of him before he left. Hamilton will be fine.
Outside of Vernon Wells atrocious contract...those other four players are all signed at reasonable numbers for the next season:
Pujols ($16) Hamilton (see above) Weaver ($16) - outperforms that salary considering Hamels and Cain make nearly $8m more/season. Wilson ($12) - outperforms that dollar figure as well.
Basically, Mike Trout's awesomeness is worth Wells contract so it balances out.

Vargas is overrated......definitely helped out by Safeco. I like the deal for both teams, with some upside for Seattle.
Where this really helped Seattle was avoiding (for now) trading some of their younger pitching for a bat....for that the should be applauded. Then as Walker, Hultzen et al approach the majors....Seattle gets the marlins on the phone and pry Stanton out of their hands.

Well, it looks like my Cubs are going for another 100 year/100 loss rebuilding plan. With the acquisitions of Scott Baker, Edwin Jackson (4 years? Really?), Carlos Villanueva, Scott Feldman and Kyuji Fujikawa to round out the pitching staff I'm feeling less than confident. Let's not forget the huge splash made with Nate Schierholtz in the outfield. He should be good for 50 runs and 50 RBI in this lineup. The only player left in FA that I'd actually like to see them sign is Michael Bourn to a 2-3 year contract to play center field, but I'm sure our management isn't looking in that direction.
