Subject: Draftime is Down

I've been told they're working on the situation. The server people thought they had everything fixed, but that's obviously not the case. At this point in time, I don't have an ETA because the problem they thought they solved isn't the actual problem.
I'll keep updating as I have info. |

As Da Bomb pointed out, we're back up.
Let me know if anything seems out of whack with your draft.

If there a way to reset everyone's clocks that would be huge... cause some people might time out now.

KKB, can you post the time that the server went down? We had a pick missed and I'd like to give the guy time to make it back. But I dont know how much time he missed.

GO, most of the drafts I spot-checked have already had picks since the server came back up, so I'd rather not do that.
On an individual basis, a draft admin can reset the draft clock through the admin interface. If you have a concern about your particular draft, let your admin know.

Can a person's cumulative clock be reset or zeroed for a pick they made?

GO, it can definitely be adjusted.

FYI, Draftime has been pretty brutal today (mainly this afternoon). Timing out or just taking ages to load. Just a heads up.

Okay, things should start getting better. They had an site that was crashing everybody else's sites and they've suspended that account until they fix their issues.
I'm already noticing faster load times, so hopefully it'll just keep getting better.
Thanks for hanging in there everybody!!!

Okay, we should be back up again. Apparently they thought my site was under attack because so many of you are drafting at the same time... seriously.

something to do with auto-refresh, I'm guessing. We probably all have draft time sitting open all the time.

Again, thank you everybody for your patience with this.

KKB: Draftime prematurely archived one of my baseball drafts after pick 14.01 of what is supposed to be a 23-round draft. I sent you a message with details via the Draftime contact link. :(

And ... we're back in business at Draftime. Queues and auto-picks were preserved, too, which is quite a relief. Thanks so much for the quick fix, KKB.

Talked with the server guys again and they said things should be getting better over the next few days. Essentially, there were two problems:
1. They thought all the hits to Draftime was an attack and shut down the site. I've made sure they understand the nature of the site and how there will be peaks/valleys in usage. I used my site stats to give them an idea of what to expect moving forward. This shouldn't be a problem any more.
2. Other sites on the server are being hijacked to be part of massive attacks. This one is real. Apparently, a long-standing WordPress "bug"/feature is being used to launch attacks. The problem with this one is that the server guys can't shut down every WordPress site because all sites come with it by default. They also don't want to shut down sites prematurely. So, they essentially have to wait for an attack on a site and then shut it down and work with the site owner to fix the "bug." The good news is that as time moves on, there should be fewer and fewer instances of this, so the issues should start to disappear completely.
Long term, I'm working on a different solution altogether. I won't implement anything new until after baseball drafting is over (not a fan of that kind of move), but the new solution should prevent these issues in the future.

KKB, I think what you've done with the draftime has been outstanding. I could only wish that the game sites could have such a great tool. If I ran a game and had the ability, I would be in talks with you to either buy or get a license to use this to incorporate it into my site. Huge thanks for listening to all of our input over the years and tweaking it. Best draft site on the internet.

Very, Very slow, almost unusable. Can't set a queue. Search is just forever to add players.

This is slightly off topic but I have a manager who made a mistake pick but someone else has picked behind him. Is there a way to roll back or change that pick itself?
Keep up the good work!

The Draft Admin or Co-Admin can edit the pick. Go to the manager's list of players already drafted. Click the name of the player to be replaced. Below the "Edit Position" button, click the "Select New Player" link. Enter the name of the new player and use the drop-down to designate his position. Finalize the transaction by clicking the "Edit Pick" button.
(I self-deleted previous post; added "Co-Admin.")

No problems for me. Other than waiting hours on end for people to make a freaking pick. I get not having the autopick on -- but how do you have nobody in your que? there should be like 100 names in there and everytime it comes up you hit the little drop down and pick a name...

A new season, different issues, same result.
Unfortunately, many of you have experienced outages with Draftime over the past week or so. I had hoped that moving to a new host would resolve the issues from last season and, as far as I can tell, it has. But, there is now a NEW issue that is causing Draftime to crash occasionally.
What I know is that the issue is related to the "sessions" database table that is used for the forums and the rest of the site. The table crashes or becomes corrupted and needs repair. Because this database table controls all the logins and active sessions, it crashing causes the entire site to crash.
I have a support ticket entered both with my host and with the forums software community in hopes of getting an answer/resolution. For now, I've written a script that checks the database table to see if it needs to be fixed and, if it does, performs the fix. This new script has been included in the script that checks for draft pauses, auto-picks, etc. every minute, so my hope is that a new "worst case scenario" is that Draftime will be down for a minute or less. That said, I can't exactly test ALL of the script because I can't force a database table to need a repair. What I am able to test works as intended, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one.
If you notice that Draftime is down for longer than a minute, please let me know ASAP. I am trying to check my email as often as possible to keep an eye on things. I'm also hopeful that my hosting company can get this figured out with the help of the forums software community so it's no longer an issue at all.
Thanks for your patience and understanding!
