0 Subject: Keeper: Posey vs. Puig

I'm in a 4 player keeper league. My keeper options are Trout, Stanton, Puig, Harvey, Posey and J. fernandez.

I'm definitely keeping Trout, Stanton and Fernandez.

I was pretty set on keeping Puig, but his #s the last month and a half of the regularseason and his spring stats(yes, I know S/T means nothing) have been quite poor, imho.

I'm now leaning a bit towards Posey, or even Harvey(for 2015).

Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

There are plenty of things about Puig that should cause worry. He swings at everything, had a very high BABIP last year, hits a lot of ground balls, and is about average in line drives (this is all based on stats from last season). Still he offers interesting potential in HR/SB.

Most projections have Posey around .295 18 75. Pretty good for a catcher but not earth shattering. Looks kind of like Salvador Perez or Wilson Ramos.

It's a tough one. Puig is risky but has more upside. If you run him out there every day he could either win you the league or lose it for you.

Posey is low risk. He won't win the league and he won't lose it either.

None of this is probably helping you. You need a crystal ball. In consensus rankings Puig is at 29 and Posey is at 48.

The big thing here is that you have Trout and Stanton. You have a high probability of winning your league this year (how many teams are in your league?). For that reason, I wouldn't keep Harvey.

I think what I would do (assuming this is about a 10-12 team league) is keep Puig (based on the rare HR/SB potential) but be careful about giving him too many AB when he is not hitting well - draft some backup options at OF - and replace Posey with a similar but cheaper C. Just my opinion.

Thank you very much for the help, Holt. I've been going back and forth all offseason between the 2. You hit it on the head, more upside to Puig, and Posey is a "safe" bet.
This is a 10 man H2H league, btw. Cats-R, RBI, HR, SB, Avg, and OPS/W, L, Sv, K, Era, Whip. I meant to say that in original post, but I was in a hurry when I typed it.
I am taking your advice and keeping Puig, who of course left last night's game with a back injury, lol, just hoping it will not be serious. I will be looking for a couple spare OF. I really like Billy Hamilton's SB potential.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my question.

Well, Puig probably placed your team into contention, but in the playoffs... Matt Kemp yelling at Yasil Puig, and somehow Don Mattingly still has a job.
