0 Subject: The VIP Talking Fantasy Baseball League

Posted by: Barilko6 - [5149514] Thu, Feb 05, 2015, 15:49

I am looking to start a new keeper league. But this won't be your normal boring league, this league will come complete with trash talk, required commenting and chit chat, and a high level of participation.

This will be the first baseball league I have ever run. I plan to issue a Monday Report on the previous week, but be fair warned, I might trash your team, might trash my own team. I will offer up random in-season rankings, post draft rankings, prospect rankings, futures rankings, players of the week, Oops of the Week. I have lots of stuff in mind. Man this league, its going to be fun.

I haven't worked out all the details yet, and am open to discussion. I just want to get the 12 or 14 most vocal guys together to have a fun, super active league. Lots of talk, lots of trade chatter, trade rumor mills, nobody ignoring their team for weeks on end.

If interested, send me an email. Active players need only apply.

Go Jays.

Make it non-keeper, yearly redraft, and I'm in. Keeper leagues always devolve into tankfests with lopsided trades that ruin competitive balance in the name of "playing for the future".

I'm active and vocal, you can count on that.

Great to hear from you SZ. I've got 2 other responses via email as well.

One had thrown out the idea of a points league rather than a categories league.

Things to think about.

Ill have to think about my time because I have been consolidating my fantasy interests over the years but I may have interest.

Maybe H2H to increase competitions?

Agree with Zen: Make it a redraft league. and start greasing up.

My most active crazy league is a H2H redraft. Mostly non gurupies... we've got like 8 guys who made over 100 moves last year for example.

I'd be in but only if there were money involved.

This is coming together nicely.

I agree with a h2h redraft. Yahoo doesn't offer it, but are there good hosting sites that offer two weekly h2h matchups?

I would be up for throwing some cash in the pot.

A h2h points league sounds very intriguing. I really like the opportunity to compete against top quality managers in a non-traditional format. Most of us are already in multiple 5X5 leagues, why not try something different and challenging? A points league would score like fantasy football, a clean winner each week. Does ESPN offer this?

I'll do some research monday. I'm in a h2h points league on CBS and it's my favorite league I play in.

I'll post some thoughts on monday.

I would prefer the standard categories. THat way something is still up in the air for the weekend, I may have HRs locked up but steals is still close so I can take my victory to 8-2 (score it that way for the standings). For points some could be over by Friday. I also enjoy deciding each week if I want to throw a bunch of pitchers out there for the counting stats or protect my ratios and stick to quality. We would likely need some rules around moves/week regardless.

I wouldnt be as interested in two matchups.

I enjoy the strategy of the categories as well, especially for baseball. Knowing I can adjust as the week goes along, punt HR's and pick up all SB guys etc. Also, getting a 6-4 type record each week, you get a more realistic baseball looking record throughout the season and GB (games behind).

Taste varies. The aspects of h2h that appeal to dpr and Go in posts 9&10 are aspects that I don't care for. I don't like having ten contests each week against an opponent, one for each category, I like the idea of two baseball teams playing one match. I don't like how so many stats are utterly wasted: your opponent gets all of one steal when you have six. The fact that you should sit one of your best base stealers that week and replace him with an inferior yet more powerful batter should not be called "strategy", it's a flaw.

Barilko 6, add me to your h2h points league on CBS! Expansion is overdue :)

I think it might be too hard to find a way to pull people together.

The problem, or blessing depending on how you look at things, is that there are so many different options, styles and formats that people can use to run a league nowadays. Its definitely a niche market wherever everyone can find exactly what they like.

Its too bad that more people aren't interested in points leagues. In my opinion they are a lot more fun and detailed towards real baseball.

That being said, I'm in 2 category leagues right now and 1 points league, so I would be leaning towards a points league. In addition, finding common ground with 11-13 other guys to form a league that everyone prefers, likes, desires is too challenging of a task I think.

I'll just look to join an already existing league!

I have got some guys lined up for a league. Some from here, some are local. All promise to be very active.

Its looking like its going to be:

One Year Auction
Points
H2H Matchups
$100 buy in
FAAB budget bids

Nothing else has been worked out yet though, but if that interests people here, hit me up with an email.
