Its a long season and Dusty Baker is in charge in Was. Strassburg's health IS a factor.

Ok, anybody else want to trade for any of my players?
My 2 big deals this offseason included sending away Kyle Schwarber, now out for the season and Garrett Richards...not out for the season and probably half of next season.

For this year though, I'll take a closer and anybody who can steal a base off of your hands.

Trade options available and plenty of them:
1. Jackie Bradley Jr - ideally I'd love to get some pitching for him. He is most prized for his defense but the ability to hit was always there - just not showing until this year finally.
2. Travis Shaw - yeah, the guy who supplanted a $20mil a year player for a starting position in spring training and then made good on the faith his manager showed him. 1st/3rd positional flexibility. Would love a middle infielder or OF with speed. Or pitching
3. Albert Pujols - yeah, his BA is ugly but that's because like last year he slumped hard the first few weeks. Over the past month he's only hitting .292 with 6 HR and 23 rbi's. Same trajectory he was on last year where he basically went bonkers for a 40HR season. He's on pace for 30-35 hr this season.
4. Neil Walker/Jurickson Profar - would sent out 1 or both if I'm getting a solid 2nd baseman with speed back in the deal.
5. Nomar Mazara - better blow me away with this one. He's only hitting .320+ and on pace for 30HR and 160+ runs/rbi's. And all scouting reports say this is what to expect. Its a short list of players who can put up .300+ 30HR line (there were only 3 last season with Trout/Donaldson just missing - .299 and .297 respectively).
Speed and starting pitching are my main targets.

I must be a nut for considering saying no, but I REALLY wanted to hold onto Nomar Mazara. In the end though I get a great deal that gives me stats I desperately need this year to compete without mortgaging my future rosters. And it gives Pete N some players to build around long term in Mazara.

Scherzer and Braun and big time talents, would you be that surprised if they were the best 2 players in the deal for the next couple seasons? They are older so could begin a decline but it seems that should be a few years off.

I think the 2 best players in the deal for the next few seasons will be Mazara and Scherzer. The rest of this season - Braun and Scherzer, but starting next year I think Mazara out performs Braun and continues to do just that.

If I didn't think Gallo and Glasnow were the real deal, I wouldn't have made the trade. I'm comfortable with a young core of Freeman, Bryant, Mazara, Myers (finally having the breakout year many have expected), Gallo, Cole and Glasnow. I also take a flier on Dee Gordon who could easily turn into a keep.
For Khahan, he gets the pieces he needed.
Win win.

Can sell AVG (Yelich), HR (Bruce, Santana), SB (BIlly Hamilton) + throw in Garret Richards to a rebuilder who can turn into a keeper pitcher. Also would include draft picks.

Trade Announcement bean sends dave robertson and justin upton to Khahan. Khahan sends Steven Wright to Bean
I get another closer to finish picking up points there. I also think Upton's first half woes are behind him. He's slowly been improving and I'm hoping for about .260/15 HR/8SB thru the second half.
I also unload one of my SP to help ease off on my IP. He was the lowest K/9 guy I had, though he was really helping w/ whip/era.

Ouch, I've had Urena in another league for his last 4 starts and he's been really solid. I finally fold under and grab him here - 31.50 ERA, 4.50 Whip to the Phillies!
Even his WHIP would be unacceptable as an era.

Crazy to think it still came down to last day. Also weird that is always Holt and Da Bomb. At the ASB I thought I had ample opportunity to pick up the 25 points or so I was behind but I had to fix my pitching first. Price was terrible 1st half and nobody else was pitching that great either.
At the ASB my ERA was 4.01 and WHIP was 1.41 both good for the bottom 3 of those categories. I traded 2 major offensive cogs within a week... and as a Sox fan it was hard to swallow but I felt it was a clear path to winning this thing so #1 deal was Xander for Bumgarner #2 deal was Bruce for Verlander
Finished at 3.58 and 1.19 so huge gains there. Not without speed bumps. I think I got all of Bumgarners worst starts this season. And I also missed a couple Verlander gems on my bench by mistake. My dad was sick all summer so was travelling every weekend and missing stuff.
With the hitting... to win this thing in spite of the disastrous season Bryce Harper had is fortunate. I kept trotting him out there, because, you just have to, right? By the last 2 weeks I was leaving him on the bench and starting Keirmaier or Pence over him. Amazing.
And similarly... another keeper and core guy 1st half in Prince Fielder finally shutting it down freed me up to get creative. Until they did that - same as Bryce - I felt obligated to at least try and play him where I could.
MVPs Nolan Arenado - my anchor. True MVP. Verlander -- post trade acquisition 101 IP, 133 K's, 2.06 ERA, 0.91 WHIP JA Happ - where did that come from? Elite since previous years ASB Billy Hamilton -- single handedly won me SBs, tried to trade him several times to no avail. Thanks! Ian Desmond kept me afloat in 1st half and gave me option to move Xander. 20/20 with near .300 AVG

**** TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT****
Khahan sends: Ryan Braun, Yoan Moncada, Jacob Degrom and Chris Davis to Wiggs
Wiggs sends: Trea Turner and George springer to Khahan
Trade Analysis - I made the offer to Wiggs with 2 options for him. He could take Davis or Justin Upton and he could take Jacob DeGrom or Stephen Strassburg. Strass and Degrom are both keeper quality players however I had doubts that I'd keep both. With 7 keepers I don't like keeping more than 2 pitchers and Scherzer is definitely one of them. So from that perspective I gave up a player that I had already given up. As for Davis/Upton - neither would make my list but both are intriguing for 2017. Both under-performed this year but have the talent to bounce back to a top 50 finish, though with some question marks for either. Then you have Braun. Well, this was the toughest one. He could easily have been a keeper - he finished with 30 HR, 16 steals and a +.300 BA. But he's aging. He may put up those number another 2-3 years but I'm trying to build a core that can compete in 2018 and beyond. I just don't see Braun contributing at that point. Springer is 7 years younger than Braun. Braun finished 45th overall, Springer 57th overall. Looking at that from an age perspective I'm happy to give up the SB that Braun brings. I look at this trade this way - if Turner and Springer both succeed and hit expectations I honestly don't care what Braun, Degrom and Davis do. They could all finish in the top 25 and if Turner/Springer succeed I'm still happy with this trade, because I wouldn't have been keeping any of those 3. And with the 8th overall pick, I doubt degrom or braun make it back to me anyway. Turner is projecting to 2nd round numbers .285 BA, 13 HR 40-45 SB and with that line up he could easily hit 170 runs/rbi's combined. And Springer has established himself.
I think Wiggs potentially got far more than he gave up, but he has some question marks in what he got.

Hey Tax - would be great to be back in a league with you. Been a long time. We'll figure out who's coming back etc in a few weeks - probably late February, but we'll keep you on the list.
In the meantime, just because I've had some roster turn over I'm going to list out here for my own sanity:
C: Wilson Ramos
1st: Albert Pujols, Josh Bell
2nd: Cesar Hernandez, Addison Russell, Trea Turner
SS/3rd: Manny Machado, Eduardo Nunez, Maikel Franco (3rd only)
OF: George Springer, Andrew Benintendi, Justin Upton, Jackie Bradley Jr
SP: Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, Danny Duffy, Carlos Martinez, Eduardo Rodriguez
RP: Wade Davis, Dave Robertson, Francisco Rodriguez
I'm looking at a probable keeper list of: A Russell, T Turner, M Machado, G Springer, A Benintindi, M Scherzer, S Strasburg
I will still consider any deals, but at this point I think I'd prefer to move players for draft picks (though I'll consider upgrades, still plenty of quality). No player on my team is off limits, though honestly machado, turner and scherzer will probably cost more than anybody is willing to pay.

I only play in two fantasy leagues, Dirty Dozen and whichever of the RIBC leagues for which I qualify. There were openings in a number of other keeper leagues for 2017, but I opted not to ask to join them, and I am therefore excited for the DD to get started. Are we ready for some baseball!?
