The 2016 baseball season is fast approaching. This means it’s time again for the prospective closer list to be assembled. All gurupies are welcome to use this in the same way as always – to kick butt in your respective fantasy baseball leagues (except for ones you are in with me. I mean, come on guys really. HAH).I like to do this list each year because the closer slot is a unique position and causes so many headaches. Its nice to have an easy reference source. This is not *my* prospective closer list so much as a compilation of information from multiple sources, all pooled together into 1 convenient location. Those sources include espn, mlb.com, drafthelp.com and sportingnews. I dropped Yahoo from my resources as a) their depth chart page was overlapping and not clear and b) the last few years they were just bad at this. rotoauthority was dropped because they stopped functioning. The pre-spring training list has seemingly been somewhat steady for a few years though 2014 I think showed a lot of change from 2013 to 2015. I think 2016 will be shaken up quite a bit compared to our prior stretch of stability.

I'll address those below. |

TORONTO BLUE JAYS: 4 sites. Had had Storen listed, 2 had Osuna listed. I was under the impression Storen would be closing so was surprised when another name popped up. This will be a spring training battle.
ATLANTA BRAVES: Grilli is listed as the closer but is injured. Its also listed as a committee situation but every site either had Vizcaino first in line or Grilli listed first with Vizcaino second. My guess is most saves go to Vizcaino until Grili gets back.
CINCINNATI REDS: Another listed as CBC. However when Chapman was traded the most common speculation was that Hoover would get save ops. He was listed first on 3 of the 4 sites reviewed. I think its his to lose, but on a short leash.
COLORADO ROCKIES: 2 sites listed this as a CBC. Yeah, right. They didn't bring in Jake McGee to be a committee member.
MILWAUKEE BREWERS: Jeremy Jeffress was listed as the closer on 2 sites, Smith on 1 and Knebel listed as a likely committee member. This seems like a true committee situation. I'd stay away
PHILADLEPHIA PHILLIES: Dave Hernandez was always listed first. But 3 of the sites indicated committee situation. I'd take a flier on Hernandez in late rounds, but otherwise I'm staying away until they get something more established. They have any number of pitchers who have closing experience.
SAN DIEGO PADRES: 1 vote for Quackenbush, 3 for Rodney. Feel like Rodney will probably be the man, but Quackenbush may vulture enough saves to make this feel like a committee situation. Hopefully spring training resolves some of this.
WASHINGTON NATIONALS: The Nationals want to win so they'll put the best guy there. But I believe Paps is on trade alert. And if they're offered an open bag of chips they may make that deal and Paps could lose his value.
NEW YORK YANKEES: Can you imagine a bullpen where neither Betances nor Andrew Miller are the closer? Well that's one where Chapman is part of that bullpen. Its Chapmans to lose, but any stumble and the talent is right there to start sneaking a few saves away from him. I'm more curious if anybody thinks this lowers Chapman's value from 1 of the top 2 or 3 closers on the market?

Looks like temporarily at least, we can add the Rays to the dreaded CBC list as Brad Boxberger is out for at least 2 months.

In Houston - Ken Giles is out as closer and Luke Gregerson is in.
