The draft will be activated this evening (Monday, Mar 14), although the clock will not be turned on until the first round is completed. The official start time of the draft is Tuesday morning, but once Draftime is activated, picks can be made, and (more importantly) queues can be set. Here are the ground rules for this year. Please read carefully, as some standards have changed from prior years.
In general, I discourage you from using a designated picker unless that is the only way to make the proper pick. The software now allows for auto-pick queues (with or without a time delay), and that is the preferred method for making a pick if you are unlikely to be available when your pick is due.
As such, please do not mark any queue as AVAILABLE unless you have specifically provided instructions to your designated picker(s). DP’s should only be used if you need some logic applied to the pick (e.g., don’t take someone at the same position as my pick in the previous round).
If you mark your queue AVAILABLE, this means that designated pickers (and me as commish) can see it when it is your turn to pick. Regardless, even if I can see your queue, I will not pick from it unless you have provided specific instructions. I encourage everyone else to adhere to the same standard.
Please be diligent about the current auto-pick settings for your general and round specific queues. If you do not want auto-picks to be made, then make sure that both queues - general and next pick - have auto-pick set to "No Auto-Pick". Every year, it seems that someone gets stuck with a surprise pick because auto-pick was inadvertently turned on or left on.
Teams at the endpoint of each round will have only one clock period to make their pick. Similarly, anyone who has timed out in any round will have subsequent picks skipped until you show up to make your pick.
I will activate a 4 hour clock beginning at the end of round 1, and this will be on for the duration of the draft, including weekends. Chronic time-out offenders may have their clocks manually shortened. The nightly clock moratorium will run from midnight until 8am EDT. This means that the moratorium will be from 9pm until 5am PDT. If you are on the West Coast and your pick comes due overnight, you will not time-out until 9am PDT. For those of you who live outside of the local US/Canadian time zones, I realize that the clock moratoriums are not ideal, but I appreciate your attempts to make it work.
You should anticipate that we will average at least two rounds completed per day. Early rounds tend to be a little bit slower. Later rounds generally pick up the pace.
The ESPN site will not be updated with draft results until the draft is over. You will need to figure out how to keep track of player availability on your own. (Of course, Draftime will not allow you to pick someone who is already drafted.)
When making your draft pick, please indicate the primary position at which you intend to use him. Do not pick anyone for the UTL slot unless he is not eligible at any other position. It is not necessary to draft a player for every position.
If you want to draft a player who is not available in Draftime, you should use the "Contact" link at the bottom of the Draftime page to request that the player be added to the system. Please anticipate these situations so that we don’t have to wait. If it is you turn to pick and a player is not listed in Draftime, then you may select a player who is unlikely to be drafted at all as a placeholder, to be substituted later on. If a drafted player is not available at the ESPN site, we will also assign a placeholder until that player has been added. Once the draft is over, you may only add players who are listed at ESPN.
You may use this thread to ask questions, comment on your upcoming availability or unavailability. After two rounds have been completed, a separate thread will be set up for the collection of draft pick rationales.I will be collecting rationales for each pick, but on a 2-round lag. As we approach round #3, I’ll post instructions. |

I emailed him around 10:30 this morning. I believe he lives on the east coast - although it's possible he's traveling.
He's a veteran - so I'm not worried long-term. It is a bit frustrating to get stymied at pick #7, though.
I'm sure we'll get back on track.

Sorry for delay today everybody.
Got caught second guessing myself. Needed to settle on top 3 before bed, pick before me was delay 10 min, so if mailedfoot picked while I was tinkering, I didn't want to be caught off guard- turned off my own autopick.
After doing much reading, I decided to move Edwin/Scherzer out of my top 3. But I did move Abreu to my number 1 slot, and forgetting to turn my autopick back on may end up costing me? May end up helping me? Only time will tell, for now, I'm slightly peeved at myself. Likely Hall Of Famer is enough to console me.
Sorry again though gang, 11th draftime for me via baseball/hockey and only 3rd queue issue that I can recall, usually 5-10 minute autopick for me. Never messed up twice in a season, and knocking on wood here. Filling a lengthy queue and gonna leave it on autopick going forward, regardless of second guessing.

Everyone, I'm sorry I've been awful so far with my promptness. I haven't been adapting well to drafting mid round. I definitely recognize that I've taken up more than my share of time so far and will be making an effort to be more timely going forward.

Rationales are now due through round 10. Most of you are doing a good job of staying relatively current. A few are lagging behind, however. You know who you are.
Even if you are typically using queues, you should be able to find the time each day (or night) to post a couple. Discipline!

I'm off to Joshua Tree for 2 nights. Will do my best to have my queue set and ready, but there may be a delay or two when my pick comes up. At least I've got 25 hours of clock time to spare before I catch up with twilson.

Blah. JP Crawford. That's what I get for trying to set a queue while in line at the movie theater.

Please get the rest of your rationales posted as soon as possible. I'll get the draft results entered on ESPN on Tuesday, after which all undrafted players will be on waivers.

Draft results were entered into ESPN. Three players failed, due to a software glitch, but they have been moved to the correct teams as well.
Please check you team rosters to make sure they are correct. Undrafted players will clear waivers on Thursday morning. Waiver priorities will be the reverse of the draft selection round order.

Alex Wood was drafted by someone, I'm pretty sure, but is on the waiver wire.

Thanks for spotting that kdl! I should have Alex Wood on my roster instead of Travis Wood.
