All indications are that every manager is returning. Now we have to decide when to have our auction. It will be far shorter as we will be auctioning far fewer players.

Fosten and I have been in discussion over when to hold the auction. I want the managers to come to a consensus. In order to do that, I would like to hear your preferences. We envision this year a four hour auction held on just one day/evening. Last year held the auction over two weeknights starting at 8pm Eastern. I liked the weeknight auction because it worked with my schedule. I believe that even if we choose a weekend day this far in advance, more than one of the twelve of us would eventually have a conflict arise because a group of handsome men such as ourselves are always in demand. So....

Do you prefer a weeknight auction or a weekend auction?

Which week do you prefer - March 4, 11, 18, 25?

Looking on our league page, I am the only team that has ponied up the $10 for this season, don't forget to do that. The keeper deadline is January 31. I have looked all through the website, there is no "Keeper" page, so if you have not cut a player before the 31st, he's yours.

Here's to an exciting, active 2018 season!

I prefer a weeknight auction, 8 pm Eastern.

I would like something during the March 18 week. SZ

18 sounds good to me. I'm still not sure why the system sets keepers at 1/31. What's there to do for 6 weeks?

Weeknight would be better for me. As of now, any of the listed weeks would be okay.

I prefer earliest week possible, March 4 or 11. Tuesday nights are my only conflict. Any other day/time is fine.

Grabbed this from the league board, threading for posterity...

thepwa: Responding the the preseason email from a couple of days ago: This year is now paid! I have no strong preference for weekend or weeknight. As of right now, I will be out of town the 14th - 20th, so those days are bad for me. Other than that, right now I am good for any dates. I think the closer to season start the better.

With 6 days to go, 3 teams need to make cuts: wiggs, goatlocker, and kyle. Best of luck.

My cuts are made and I paid.
As late as possible is probably good.
Hard to give a date for me now with living between two houses.
Set a date and I'll figure out how to make it work.

Anybody visiting Las Vegas, make sure you give me a shout in advance.
Spending more time there.
Hope to have the California house sold by late May / early June.

Best of luck this season.

I finished my cuts today. I still wish this was about 5 weeks later. many players I have to cut not knowing what their role will be yet, simply based on MLB rosters.

I will echo nerfs comments. This is way too early. So we cut our players and then wait up to 8 weeks. I would prefer the 25th.

This is a reminder that the January 31 keeper deadline is universal in ottoneu, not some nefarious plot by Fosten and myself to make y'all belly's ache.

Thanks to everybody for getting their keepers in on time.

Game creator Niv Shah explained, in the Allow Leagues to Set Their Own Keeper Deadline discussion thread, "A common calendar is one of the biggest drivers of the Ottoneu community - decisions made around the same time every year. I can see a power-user case for customized deadlines and even a regular user argument for more general flexibility, but making deadlines flexible actually removes some of what I think is special about Ottoneu."

To add some perspective, the other ottoneu league I participate in is drafting Super Bowl Sunday. In the end, we're all under the same circumstances. The sooner we draft, the sooner we can get down to trades.

Good news! We were estimating between 3-4 hours for the draft, however my other ottoneu league just completed the fun in 2:30. Tooth hurty!

Thank you, everyone, for your input on the auction time. Fosten and I have settled on Monday, March 26 at 8pm Eastern. No one specifically stated that he was unavailable on that date. If that changes, please notify all of us as soon as you can.

Looking forward to a great 2018 from Vlad Guerrero Sr. HOF!

Based on everything I know right now, that nite works for me.
My step daughter graduates from her LVN class on 24 Mar.
House in Calif will be going on the market shortly after that.
As I said, I think it works, just not sure where I will be.

I've emailed the 4 teams who have not yet paid for the 2018 season. Renewal dates vary individually, relative to the date when you first signed up. Be sure to keep an eye on this. If you do not pay on time, ottoneu will put your team up for sale. (Or maybe fit you for cement shoes!)

Yep. 8 Eastern, 5 Pacific.

I’m very grateful that all 12 owners have returned. Hopefully we will have another active season and a flawless auction. 🤞🏼

Has the dust settled from last night's draft? Everyone satisfied with their rosters? I have way too many pitchers and not enough offense, if someone wants to trade.

Looking good over here. I successfully rebuilt my entire pitching staff. Perhaps overpaid for Martinez, but I had to have one of those two top pitchers. I literally had the worst staff anyone could have dreamed up last year.

I also got the right guys on offense. Seager was key because it allows me to play Carpenter at 2B. Seager/Carpenter/Moncada at 3B/2B/MI is much better than Carpenter/Kipnis/Asdrubel, which is what I was using most of last year. Story should be an upgrade over Crawford. I also like my young OF pickups - Winker and Hays.

I feel disappointed in my execution of the auction and did not do a good enough job of preparing for it. Need to make a mental note about that for next year!

This league is so different from any of the others I play in that I had forgotten some of the nuances of it. I foolishly forgot that only 60 day DL players are DL eligible. But now that the season has started, I'm remembering how interesting this format is and feel like I'm getting back into the swing of things.

I, too, felt pretty terrible after the auction. I had a plan and failed miserably. I wanted Chapman and got him, but I feel I overpaid. I was kicking myself that I didn't come away with Xander Boegarts, but now that he is injured, maybe not so much.

I wasn't adequately prepared with a list of prospects that I wanted, I'm glad I landed Adames, but he was the only guy I knew was on the top 50 list.

Still learning. Maybe this season we will get some teams to announce that they are rebuilding and start executing a plan. Having some salary cap space could be helpful later this season.

Disappointed in Kyle's absence. Would have preferred him to bow out before the keeper deadline. Fosten and I will discuss his situation soon.

Yep that's a bad situation. It's basically an 11 team league right now because he doesn't have enough players.

- 3 teams are out
- Waiting on arbitration from SZ, Taxman, Goat, Nerf, thepwa

Reminder, you can change your allocations anytime before the deadline, so it's best to get them in early, and adjust later.
