I made this pitch last year and it made some traction; just not enough.
We should reduce the innings cap. SPs just don't go 200 innings anymore as teams try to limit pitchers working through the lineup a 3rd time and rely more on their bullpens. This requires us to go even deeper into rotations to be able to hit the limit. If you look at the teams now, only 2 teams are on pace to exceed the minimum and the median team is on pace to be over 50 innings behind. And while I like seeing the trade activity we have already seen 4 of the 5 contending teams need to make trades to acquire SPs. This shows where the clear scarcity lies.
As such I would like to repropose reducing the innings cap by 50 innings for next season (with potentially future discussion to bring it down 100).

206 - I'm not against this change, but we are a week shy of a year since the initial vote was called for. We have the same managers as last year. And even though the voting was for no change, 1350, 1300 1250 etc breaking down the choices - no change still had a majority of votes. I'd rather wait until the 2019 discussion to bring this up again.
Maybe if we had a majority wanting a change, but just hadn't agreed on what change to make it would be worth it.

Last year it was called with 5 people voting no change, and 5 voting for a change with 2 votes not in so a majority was still possible. I also think with another year of data continuing to support the change in dynamics in how teams are utilizing the starting pitchers some may reconsider. If not that is fine but I thought it was at least worth discussing to see where people stood.
I also don't think waiting til the offseason if we are considering a change is a good idea. Everyone is active now, not in the offseason. When we were trying to reach a resolution on Ohtani last year we could only get a few people involved and that is with me having to push along the conversation more than I was comfortable with given my desire to use an early pick on him.

Well lets do this. Rather than voting for no change or 3 or 4 different changes lets vote:
A) lower the IP limit
B) leave it as is
If enough vote to change, then we'll discuss where to set it and if we can't agree then we'll leave it as is. I do think the data supports that we are probably a bit high on the IP limit. Again, last year and multiple years before any manager exceeding the limit either did it in the final few days or brought themselves up to the last day and loaded up with as many pitchers as they can. In other words, the IP limit wasn't having an affect. It wasn't stopping any manager from running out any pitcher they wanted whenever they wanted. As for the last day shenanigans, that will happen no matter what.

I don't think just looking at year end totals tells you much. Anyone looking to contend knows you need to at least end up in the ballpark or you are leaving points on the table due to the high correlation with Ws and IPs. The question is what is needed to be done to get there. Do to SPs generating less IPs than they did years ago, you now need to stream more (or carry a greater number of pitchers) to reach the limit.

I'd be for limiting IP (1350 makes sense). I've been carrying lot of pitchers on my roster all season and I'm still projected at -65 IP. Even with more pitchers than hitters on my roster I can't hit that IP limit without a fair amount of extra streaming.

For this league, the number of IPs isn't a big issue to me. I will follow whaetver the consensus is as long as any change is no more than 100 IPs each season. If you want to go more, gradually get there or it's effect may have unintended consequences.

OK I thought I had upgraded my pitching staff but now Paxton and Stripling are both absent so I need to try to make a deal for another SP. Anyone interested?
I just wanted to let y'all know that this will be my last year in DD. I've given it a considerable amount of thought the past few weeks and have come to the conclusion G20 takes up the majority of available time I have to commit to fantasy baseball. I feel like my DD team has suffered as a result. As you all know, fantasy baseball is very demanding (arguably the most demanding fantasy sport out there) and I feel like I can effectively manage only one keeper team. I don't feel like I'm leaving the team in shambles so hopefully someone, with more time to commit, can take the team to it's full potential in the future.
Thank you all for letting me join DD a few years back. It's been an enjoyable experience. I'll see some of y'all in g20.
Best of luck,
Pete

Just a reminder since trading was brought up - trade deadline has obviously passed us by. But once that last game ends, off season trading is up and running. Any off season trades need to be recorded and announced here.
And once, we hit the off season I'll be looking to move Max Scherzer, Lorenzo Cain and one of Albies, Baez, Turner or Machado. These are some pretty steep price tags that will need to include draft picks coming back. But I'm looking to re-vamp my pitching keepers a bit so I'm gladly willing to do 2:1 and 3:1 where you load up your keeper list for a younger, elite pitching keeper and draft pick compensation.

I should finish in 5th place which is much better than I had anticipated at the beginning of the season. My draft and keeper list were targeted for 2019 and beyond. Had I paid attention to SBs in the draft and to catcher ABs during the season, I would have most likely finished in the top 3. My keeper list sets up nicely for 2019 with new keepers Ronald Acuna, Vlad, Jr. (should get almost a full season from him), and Walker Buehler (should pitch between 180 and 200 innings). Paul Goldsmith and Anthony Rizzo, especially Rizzo, had somewhat off seasons due to slow starts, but will bounce back in 2019. Chris Sale will anchor my pitching stall along with Buehler. The conundrum will be keeping Kenley Jensen or Michael Conforto. I am not concerned about Jensen's arrhythmia. It is commonplace for this type of problem to come back. He will have another ablation in the off season and be fine. I had Conforto as a keeper, traded him for someone (possibly Jensen), and got him back off of waivers this year when his owner got tired of waiting for him to recover from off season surgery. He now seems to be playing at the level that the Mets had predicted. Most likely I will keep Conforto, and Jensen will be available for a 1st round draft pick. Nelson Cruz's 36+ HRs, Mike Moustakas' 26+ HRs, and Mallex Smith's 33+ SB's (picked him up too late to make much of a difference) will be hard to part with, but will be available for draft picks. My big frustration is in RIBC AAA where I had been in the top 3 ( necessary for promotion to RIBC) for the entire season until this week when I dropped to 4th place. Chris Sale being out for 2 months and my hitters tanking did me in. I still have a chance, but it does not look promising. Good luck to all down the stretch . It has been a lot of fun this season.

It has been an frustrating season for me where it seemed all my hitters came out the gate ice cold (and a couple of my keepers never really turned it around). My hitting caught fire post ASB where I have 5 of the 10 hitters in the last month and likely that would hold true if we went back to ASB as well. Yelich and Ohtani(H) performed at levels I wouldn't have thought possible and Bregman took is game to the next level as well giving me excitement for the future. Unfortunately when my pitchers got injured around midseason (top 3 all on DL) I never adjusted to better manage my innings so I likely left ~10 points on the table this season which would have kept be off the podium but not at as large of a step back as it appeared all year.
I am going to have some tough decision this offseason where I feel I have four stud keepers (likely 20 quality) and then am going to have to balance steady performers with upside for the future to round out the list.
Studs: Bregman Yelich Snell Correa - man what happened..still accomplished so much in earlier seasons and 24. He is the best talent on the left side of HOUs infield.
Safe top 50 keepers Rendon - Great baseball player whose skills don't all translate to fantasy to get him into the upper tier but he gets it done when healthy. Diaz - Stud. Do I want to keep a closer? Definitely going quick in the draft it let go. Merrifield - One of only ~20 players to rank in the top 50 last 2 years. Imagine if he wasn't in the KC wasteland? Ozuna - The midpoint of the last 2 years is still quite a strong keeper. I think he settles around there with the upside to do what he did two years ago with the reason for this season being his shoulder needing the offseason
Upside Talent: Bellinger - Where did the power go? Can he adjust back and work on the holes in his swing? 22 and we know what he did last year so tons of potential. Ohtani - Hitter? Pitcher? Either would project as a top 40-50 player with full time stats but what is he going to turn into? How does the MCL and yahoos treatment of him as 2 players impact things? Jimenez - Clearly ready for the bigs but subject to the CBA service time manipulation. Will be up early next year and strong chance to turn into a top tier keeper for years to come. Kopech - For the rebuilding team this was a top pitching prospect in baseball when he was called up. Showed he had figured it out the second half of the year and offers top tier talent (in 2020...) Darvish - I have no intention of doing it but maybe someone looking for a keeper wants to make a cheap gamble?
Anyone looking to add a player to their keeper list be sure to reach out. I would likely be willing to move any of the guys below the stud tier in the right deal (and really do need to figure out a way to move 2-3). A good trade can help make the decision of who to keep easier for me. The top guys are available of similar tiered players but the default expectation is that I will be holding them.

I'll be looking to move some players for 2019 draft picks. There is no way I can keep all the established, keeper-quality guys I have:
In no particular order, guys who are snap keepers in just about any league and just about team:
Aaron Judge Manny Machado Trea Turner Andrew Benintendi Javier Baez Ozzie Albies Max Scherzer Corey Kluber then add in players like Lorenzo Cain Stephen Piscotty Mike Foltynewnichsch (can we update the Stephen Strasburg
I can only keep 7 and would love to get some value back. I'll look at deals that do 2 things for me - get me younger pitching or get me 2019 draft picks.

Congratz to Da Bomb for a pretty dominant season. I tried my best up until the Allstar break, but I'm convinved Da Bomb was paying off my players.
Seems like after the Allstar break I couldn't string together more than 2 nights of solid to good stats. I was hanging in there, but slowly losing ground. My team batting average dropped from about .274 at the AS break to .267 today. My HR went from 10-11 points down to 5.5.
Then my team took off for about 1 week again and closed the gap. Then disaster hit. In a 2 week period I saw my whip go from 1.12 to 1.17, my ERA from 3.25 to 3.49 and my 12 points in W's drop to 9. That was all in the first 2 weeks of September. That did me in. A sharp drop off in BA, HR and a big spike in Whip/ERA.
Congratz Da Bomb on another title. Definitely earned it this year.

Congrats DaBomb. Well played. We'll try again next year. Congrats to Khahan as well for the second place finish.
This pretty much sums up my season. My innings pitched leaders: Kershaw 158.1 A.Wood 148 R.Hill 108.2 T.Skaggs 72.2
It took a lot of scroungy streaming to get to 1400 IP with many a blow-up along the way. Every time I started to make headway in the ERA/WHIP depts there'd be some explosions to knock me back. If I took the time to add up the stats of my one and two start streamers I'm almost positive that their ERA would be closer to 9 than to 3. Ah well. Back to the drawing board next year.

Thank you all. This win puts me alone with 5 championships which I wear with pride considering the competition. Nice season again to Khahan who brought it to within a couple points last week before I was able to put some more distance into the league again, and to holt who has podiumed in all but 2 seasons.
A few of my keepers took a step back (Votto, Donaldson, Gary Sanchez, Dee Gordon) but draftees/ FA pickups including Gleyber Torres, Andujar, Haniger, Wheeler, Eugenio Suarez, Treinen) went a long ways to make up that difference. And with Severino, deGrom and Blackmon, I will have some tougher keeper decisions so if you see anything, reach out!
