The draft has been processed , and all rosters are loaded. All undrafted players are on waivers, and will clear on Wednesday (early morning, I believe). Waiver priorities are the reverse of the order of the draft pick selection round (i.e., RJ first, slizz last).

In order to properly exclude the two Japan games, I had to process the draft on ESPN excluding all players from Seattle and Oakland. After submitting those amended draft results, I then added in the Seattle and Oakland players. By default, it appears that all stat results for drafted players were backdated to March 20, regardless of the timing of the draft. But because I had announced before the draft that those two Japan games would not count, including those games was inappropriate. But we're all set now - even though I essentially had to enter the draft results twice. Yuck!

Please review your roster for completeness and accuracy. I did my best, but it's possible (maybe even likely) that one or two errors were made.

Then make sure your lineups are properly set for Thursday. By default, all Oakland and Seattle players will be on your bench, while some of your expected bench players may be in your lineup.

I will be producing the usual RIBC summary page, with split standings capabilities. Probably won't be active until the weekend, however. The new site configuration creates a need for some programming modifications.

I have not played with ESPN before and have a question.
All of my players starting today have a red exclamation point next to their names that states that they are not starting.
Would someone please explain what that means and if I need to do anything. If so, what?
Thanks.

re: loki

I am guessing this is just because official lineups have not been posted yet. This is a new interface for ESPN, and this has not been the case in years past, but I'm hopeful that once official lineups post you will get an accurate representation of who's playing. Either that, or it's a bug... we'll see.

When I check the games played limit on the app it shows that for middle infielder I’ve played 6/648 GP. I know ESPN was/is buggy so is there a place to see the true games played?

That's actually outfield that says 6/648. The limit appears underneath the position name, not above. The lines that look like position dividers are actually horizontal bar graphs that will fill to the right as games are played.

Split standings should be working (although split date of 3/28 will not work.

I have the beginnings of a program that will pull in your roster from a ESPN league and show which players are in the starting lineup - and which are not.

The formatting is still simplistic, and I hope to eventually add some other info to the display as well (e.g., gametime, postponed, etc.), but so far it seems to do its basic job pretty well. I also hope to be able to incorporate a display of actual games played by slot at some point.

I currently have it set up for RIBC, G20, and RIBC-AAA. I can easily add RIBC-AA if someone can tell me the ESPN league ID for that league. (It is specified as part of the league URL.)

Here it is: http://dailybaseballdata.com/cgi-bin/rosterCheck.pl

Posted lineup data is updated every 10-15 minutes during the day. Even if ESPN gets it act together and posts starters, I have found in the past that my data is often available earlier than what was posted at ESPN (although not always).

Let me know what other data would be useful to include. For now, I'm showing all hitters (starters and bench) plus all pitchers on the bench. I figure this will easily point out any players in your lineup that are not starting, and any bench players that are.

Phone or web browser?

In the web browser, go to "My Team" at the top, and then there are buttons that say "move" next to each player (unless the player is already locked for the day. If so, you can advance to the next day.)

Once you click on move, then all of the spots that he can be moved to will have a "here" button. Click on one of those, and the swap will occur.

There is no separate edit button.

Somehow it became corrupted. On web browsers Safari and Chrome those 2 buttons no longer appear, but they were on the screen this morning. Rebooting did not help.
Additionally if this will through some light on the problem, I can no longer see recent activity (I did follow youngroman's advice and had been able to see this screen before).
I think that I may need to sign out of the league and then sign back in. If so, how?
Your thoughts?
The phone app works fine.
I need to leave for the evening soon, and will not be back until late, but welcome your advice.
Do you think I need ESPN Help?

[36] I made some significant enhancements to the rosterCheck program.

It now shows batting hand for hitters.
It now shows game times for all games.
It now shows opposing SP for each game (plus throwing hand)

There may be other tweaks introduced eventually, but I'm going to let it stand for now. If you use it, please let me know if you notice any glitches, and if you have any thoughts on formatting revisions and/or other features to add.

I know this was raised upthread regarding the app (which I don't have), but is there any way on the espn website to tell how many games I have used at the hitting positions? There used to be, but I can't find it in the new set-up.

When I looked at league settings - it seems to be set at 1944 games played, without regard to position (which is 162 x 12). With this setting, you could run someone in the DH slot every single day of the year, for something like 180+ games, and not hit a 162 GP cap.

Thanks.

I expect to be adding GP/IP limit info to my rosterCheck program shortly.

And the hitting limits are enforced by slot. The league settings display just fails to report this.

Once again, sloppy ESPN programming. Same issue exists for ESPN hoops as well, so there's no apparent reason to expect any of this to be corrected during the season.

Best laid plans of mice and men department:
My team's foundation was to be its starting pitching, and as such I chose SPs with my 1st two picks. Right now I am last in ERA, and my other pitching stats are only marginally better. It is only the beginning of April, but even so...

I am playing in a Yahoo league along with ESPN, and perhaps it is just my familiarity with Yahoo, but I think it is a better platform. Cannot give specifics, but just find it easier.

Freddy Galvis, SS
Randal Grichuk, OF
Kevin Kiermaier, OF

Obviously not expecting top shelf. Any and all offers welcome.

Re: comparing avg pace numbers that I report vs ESPN's values.

The numbers reflect different time frames.

My numbers shows where you are currently vs where you would be if your pace was exactly on track to hit the max on the last day. So a value of -4 means you are 4 games behind the target pace.

ESPN projects what your total will be if you maintain your current pace for the full season. So, for example, if you are 4 games behind pace (using my measure) and the season is exactly one-third complete, ESPN will report -12. You are essentially on a pace that will end the year 12 games under the limit.

Neither is right or wrong, they just measure your pace "gap" as of different times (now vs season-end).

There is also a (presumably) slight difference in our measures of completion rate for the full season. I simply divide how many games have been completed through today, and divide that by the total number of games for the full year (for all teams combined). I'm not sure what ESPN uses. Our resulting measures are similar, but not the same. ESPN may pro-rate based on dates, rather than overall GP.

So, for example...

As of today (games through 6/12), 1010 MLB games have been completed. A full season is 2430. So using this measure, the season is 41.6% complete.

My team has 520 IP. At the 41.6% mark, being "on pace" would mean I should have 561 IP (.416 x 1350 IP). Thus, I am 41 IP behind pace. (-41)

The numbers reported by ESPN imply that the season is 42.7% complete. I do not know how they calculate that. But using their completion percent, they project that I will have 1217 IP at year end (520/.427). If I end the season at 1217 IP, I'll be 133 IP below the max. So they report my projected pace to be -133.

Frankly, I think my calc is more intuitive.

Getting crushed with injuries lately. As of yesterday, I had 5 players on IL. Decided to drop one (Woodruff), who is likely out until at least September. Then today I learn that Michael Chavis may be headed to IL.

Argh.

We should probably consider adding at least one IL slot next year, as the 10-day list seems to be getting a lot of activity this year. Wouldn't really help much for injuries to starting pitchers, though, as the free agent lists is pretty depleted of talent.

- I am definitely in favor of adding IL slot(s). Injuries can play a huge role in the outcome of this league.
- I don't think it's right that we have to sit on players who got injured, or be forced to cut them. We don't have deep enough benches for all that, while also maximizing GP and reaching IP limits.
- It's bad enough if someone has a star go down, or has multiple injuries at once. We shouldn't be penalized on top of that by making our roster even less flexible.
- I could also get on board with adding a couple bench spots instead.

Would like to add an outfielder - open to trading anyone but Trevor Bauer, Kirby Yates, Anthony Rizzo and Justin Turner.

I've got steals in Mallex Smith, second basemen who've overperformed (Colin Moran just got 2B eligibility) and underperformed (Scooter Gennett, Brian Dozier), a strikeout machine in Robbie Ray, a couple future closers (I hope) in Eovaldi and Strickland.

I went back and looked at the draft, and Slizz managed a series of great picks. While it never hurts to have the human head start known as Mike Trout, Slizz went on to draft Gerritt Cole and Anthony Rendon at the turn of 2/3, Pete Alonso in the 14th, Trey Mancini in the 19th, Taylor Rogers in the 23rd, and Tatis Jr. in the 24th (after the rest of us were drafting guys like Josh Harrison, Troy Tulowitzki, and Jed Lowrie). That's huge hits on post-round 12 talent. He added Keston Hiura , Hansel Robles, and Liam Hendricks off the wire just to rub it in. He capped it off by getting 2 home runs from Brad Miller on the last day of the season.

Bravo. None of us had a chance.

Appreciate the love. Up until the final weeks it was close in just about all of the rbi and runs categories from 10th through 16th.

You hit the nail on the head hitting on picks 1-2-3 and getting Alonso on top of the late depth. I am probably the biggest Rendon supporter on the gurupie boards so it doesn’t come as a surprise I got him, but pre-draft I wanted to diversify with Kris Bryant. Thanks again for the competition and good luck in 2020!
