Anybody interested in starting a stratomatic baseball league to get their fantasy sports fix?
Send me an e-mail if interested. |

I've played Strat-o-Matic in the past. I used to play C&D (Baseball / Basketball / Hockey) as an adolescent. More recently, I played Football (windows based) from 2006-2010.
It can be really fun, but personally I find it best suited to multi-year (dynasty style) leagues.
If you've never tried it, it's an interesting game!

I'm a huge fan of Out of the Park baseball, and with OOTP21 due any day, now might be the time to pick it up.

<2> Checked that out on Steam, Tree. May give it a try.
Is there a subscription for entering leagues, or is it just spend your $35 up front for the game and you're done?

to be honest, i don't know. a lot of the online lines are posted on the forums, but i've never joined one, mostly because i love the challenge of taking a team, making it a champion, and keeping it a champion, being a GM in my own league.
i only buy every two years - so i'm due for the new one.
right now i'm playing the 2019 Texas Rangers (it's 2041 in the league) and i've won 4 of last 6 championships, but it took a long time to get there, with only one other world series win in the 17 years prior.
the only player that has had his number retired by the Rangers in the time i've been playing is Nomar Mazara, although i've got a few players who will soon get that distinction.
it is a LOT of fun, and a VERY deep game. the off season is especially fun, because your budget matters, and you lose your mind when you can't sign a big free agent because you'd be over budget.

also fun - Juan Soto was just named to the Hall of Fame as a first ballot, for the class of 2042, with 77.1% of the vote.
Noah Syndergaard was named in the same class - ON HIS 10th ballot - with 75.9% of the vote.

Stratomatic's on line game is pricey. Like IAC, I have mostly played the Card & Dice (C&D) version. However not looking for a face to face league.
So, I sprung for the OOTP21 game, playing the perfect league thing, no fee. $35 for the Steam version seemed reasonable.
Also started a dynasty league. I found console games AI really sucks and you can clobber it. From what you say this must be tougher, have just done some pre-season stuff so far, As you say, game seems very deep.

Having fun playing OOTP21. Tournaments are short duration challenges in Perfect Team mode.
Stratomatic On line version is not as good. That game is most fun in card & dice mode. Roll the dice like your swinging for the fences. Unless you live with a large family, with social distancing, its out of the running.
Anyway if we have enough that would be interested we could start a league in OOTP-21.
$35 gets you started. It's Free to Play, but warning it can be Pay to Win in Perfect Team mode, though I have already came in first of 16 and 2nd of 32 without spending a penny.
Go to Steam and search for it.

OOTP Go is coming, but i'm not sure when - it's a mobile platform, and should be similar to, but not as robust as OOTP, simply because OOTP has everything.
OOTP isn't perfect, but it's damned good, and the reddit group on it is pretty fun, because people do post a lot of quirks, like the guy who had a pitcher knocked out for 6 weeks last week because he had contracted a virus.
glad you're digging it Bean.
