Peter Gammons wrote an article about a Louisiana dropout who is just wowing the scouts upon signing with the Devil Rays. It's a great story.

I read that -- a truly great story.
In my mind, it is people like this who are getting the biggest shaft when A-Fraud signs a $250 million deal. Both the player's union and the owners have successfully rigged the system so that hot prospects from backwater towns get shafted. The more the big free agent stars get, the less is left over for the little guys. Like most of you guys, I knew a couple guys who struggled for several years in the minors before giving up their dreams for family reasons. The conditions they have to put up with while the guys at the top feast . . .
But it's nice to see baseball give someone like this a chance. I hope he makes it, after getting traded to KC so they can rip him off for a few years ;-). Too bad KC didn't get him thrown in on their Damon deal.

I care if that story was fact or fiction, that was a beautiful story that maybe replaces a little faith in this world that someplace, somewhere californication took over this world.
Peter Gammons is a good writer. I'm so moved, I think I'm gonna move to Louisiana. *L*
OH yeah I'm sorry this is a roto league, what do you think his draft value would be? I'd say $75

Are you this is a story about a Devil Rays scout named Benny Latino discovering a prospect named Toe Nash in Louisiana?
It sounds awfully familiar with a story about a Yankees scout named Al Percolo going to Mexico and discovering prospect Steve Nebraska.

I wonder if Benny Latino looks anything like Albert Brooks. I seriously doubt Nash looks like Brendan Frasier with long hair.

Has anyone been able to varify this story as being true? Seems a bit rediculous to me.

Toe Nash has been arrested 5 times in the last 10 months. He has been arrested 3 times for possession of marijuana, once for battery, and once for breaking and entering and theft. This guy is an idiot, with a 41 year old drug dealing girlfriend. He is no Steve Nebraska that's for sure.

Here is your "Natural." No wonder he hadn't been out of state before....because the state wouldn't let him! Talk about a bum. The St. Petersburg Times explains exactly what the deal is with Toe Nash.

He dumped the 41 year old for a 15 year old. I saw that too.

We can only hope the major league baseball lifestyle can save him as it has other talented crackhead criminals such as Doc Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Steve Howe, etc.
Nothing helps straighten a misguided young kid's sense of perspective out like a few million dollars in his bank account.
The Mets might be a good fit for him. Bobby Valentine says they don't smoke dope.
