0 Subject: First Guru Jr. of the Year

Posted by: jedman

I am assuming that we will have a Guru Jr. again this year. I'll let a past Guru Jr. dig up the qualifications for the award, as I was never the recipient (and rightfully so). But I think the first Guru Jr. award should go to a person who added much to this board and other boards before his untimely passing. While I didn't know Philliephan all that well, it just won't be the same without him this year and I'd like to nominate him as the first Guru Jr. of the 2001 baseball season.

Here are the criteria for Guru Jr.

The person must show sign of Guru like tendencies, which include but are not limited to statistic support, answering questions, and just being all around good for the prosparity of this forum. I can't forget this last bit for Guru will surely come and smite my behind. LOL:) The nominee can also show a sense of humor that makes this forum more enjoyable during hard times.

The winner gets the Guru Jr.(Name)tag for the week and gets the honor of choosing the new Guru Jr. for the following week from the nominations.

Nominations will be made every Friday.

Gary

By far,

philliephan...

a great person who provided insightful and humorous posts. His Top 100 breakdown last year was a valuable tool, makin differentiation picks an ease.

Yes, philliephan. Thanks for reminding me about that top 100 breakdown, KB -- it was fantastic, and extremely valuable. This would be a fitting honor.

just to go along with the tribute to Philliephan, I was wondering if there would be someway to include a graphic on the message board main page with his name or something. Just as a reminder to everyone of his contributions to the boards. There are some talented computer people here who could probably whip up a nice memorial patch to, in essence, retire his Gurupie name.

Just an idea.

This award has to go to philliephan -- thank you jedman for making the initial nomination.

My hope is that this nomination and subsequent award will keep us thinking of the humor, insight and helpfullness that philliephan always brought to these boards and encourage us to do the same.
May we all post in the tradition of philliephan.

I was initially going to vote for Madman.

I didnt know Philliphan as long as you all did. But half a season was enough for me to get to know him enough to understand why you all love him. Total class and the ability to laugh and make others laugh.
Also.. I like the idea CP mentioned about retiring his name.

my vote will definetly have to go to philliphan.
Madman will be getting quite a few votes next week, and rightfully so.

The philliephan name is already retired, IIRC, so it cannot be use again.

Who was the last Guru Jr? A tie between Eustacio and philflyboy, correct? One of those two needs to begin and obviously finish the "official corrination" of the Guru Jr. Title.

And without a doubt, philliephan deserves it.

It seems that philliephan is well in the lead right now. The official winner will be announced tomorrow at 12 est. If Eustacio is not around or does not want to do it, I will be here and take care of it. It would be a pleasure :)

My vote goes to philliephan.

JELLY metioned retiring the Guru Jr award with philliephan as its last honoree.
I like the idea, but only if we come up with another weekly award moniker to replace it.

I wouldn't presume to speak for philliephan, but my guess is that he'd rather see the "Guru Jr." tag stay the same.

I think the idea of "retiring the Rotoguru JR title" is living in the past and not moving on, rather that paying respect to Philliephan.

Nominate him as the first, possibly incorperate him into the title. Retiring the title in his honor is foolish IMHO.
