so you all know, I'm back and can pick anytime in the next hour. In fact, I'll check-in in an hour b/c Khahan is gone for the night.

If I don't get to pick tonight, I'll check in around 9 (C) tomorrow morning. I have a pretty decent idea who I want now, but we'll see...

good mourning guys.

going back to the old thread, I also agree to the position requirments there, so I guess we will go:

8 pitchers
1 C
1 1B
1 2B
1 SS
1 3B
1 IF
4 OF
7 bench
-----
total 25 players = 25 rounds to the draft

any objections?

Strike One I hope you will decide to be active in the league. you have a fine draft so far, and redrafting with the same people doesn't sound like a good idea to me too.

That's now three SP's in a row for me but I think they are all excellent pitchers and I couldn't pass up on them.

wazaaap_guy-
Mulder may be the best out of the three. I thought you went a little early with Oswalt, but you probably made up for that by getting Mulder here.

I'm really high on Oswalt for obvious reasons after seeing him dominate last year. I tried to trade up for him because I thought one of chuck, dan, tduncan, or strike one would get him, since they only had 3 sp among the 4 of them. i was kind of surprised to see mulder still there. blockaa, youve got 2 excellent 3b there, you gonna try to trade one?

Yeah, blockaa, I actually rolen penciled in for myself this round. Now I've got to look around.
We keeping this friendly or not? Taking 2 of the tops from a weak position this early (ok, it IS good strategy)could easily turn this into something less than friendly competition.

Or, are you taking Nevin as your 1st baseman since that is where is supposedly playing from this year?

Ha! Nothing wrong with a little fierce competition. :)

I hadn't really intended to get Rolen. I thought Mikel, with 2 solid OFs already, might pass on Larry Walker . . . that's who I would've gone after. Also would've loved to have Klesko, but tduncan snagged him a couple of picks early.

Anyways . . . I'm always open to trades, but with that Util IF spot, I may be inclined to hang on to Rolen. I told EH that if Chavez makes it back to me . . . j/k . .

Can I use Nevin at 1B? I didn't think that would be allowed, but . . .

nothing unfriendly about grabbing 2 good players from the same position in my mind, just good strategy. you can always trade one, or plug them into the utility slot. anyway, this brings up another good point. position eligibilities. sandbox does 15 games played at a position makes a player eligible for another, but some games do 10 and 5. also, what positions will players moving to new positions (nevin, chipper) qualify at. in my opinion, 15 games sounds good, and nevin and chipper should definitely be considered as 3b, but i have no problem allowing them to be 1b and of since they are almost definitely going to be playing that position this year.

Khahan . . . . no way Rolen would have made it back to you. EH told me - after I had made my pick - that wiggs was going to get Rolen, had I not. I wouldn't consider him a 'steal', but I was happy to see him still around for my 6th round pick.

Mulder was on my short list for pitchers but I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get him. Not too happy though because probably will bump a few more, i was hoping only tduncan and Dan would be in the market for pitching this round.

waiting for SO for 6 hours now, in the middle of the day. it's just not gonna work this way.

on this pace, this draft is gonna take well over a month.

maybe we need to set an hour and then everybody will make an affort to log in every that at that hour so we can get through a few rounds.

anyway, I'm out untill around 9pm ET. wiggs has my que.

alright about SO...This is the only thing i can think of for the reason he isn't around.

1. He was at school all day and didnt get a chance to get a computer there.

2. He is on the basketball team and either he is at practice or he had/has a game.

sorry but some of us have school so we can learn. also some of us also play sports, for me it's basketball and i had practice.

I checked in around noon today, and my 5 guys that i wanted all were taken. mulder, park, kile, rolen, and walker.

the season dosen't start for another month and a half and since this is being made into a league, i'm not seeing the point in getting it done all on one day. that's the idea of a slow live draft...IT'S SLOW.....

there's my rant, thank you very much.

next time don't take my picks!

true, its slow but atleaset let us know when you'll pick....something like this

"Hey guys, its noon and all my guys are gone. Won't be able to check until 8. Sorry."

That way we can ALL log on at 8 and get some picks in. Perhaps Khanan would have stuck around longer if he knew when you'd be around but according to wiggs he's gone.

I don't care if there are holdups but if you KNOW you'll be gone for an extended period of time...atleast let us know a ballpark of when you'll be back.

And, all my picks have been taken, I have somebody in mind, but I"m not convinced I want him yet, so I'd rather not email my pick to anybody. Sorry guys.

Good night all. I'll be able to check in periodically from work tomorrow. Wiggs has my work email to let me know.
I teach kempo tomorrow night, as after 4 I won't be able to log in. I'll try to put together a long que at lunch for somebody to post for me tomorrow evening.

Much as I enjoy this, must get to bed myself. If Mr. Nice Guy makes his pick tonight, Mr. Sledge will makes his two around 1:00 and send it right back...so don't go far Mr. Nice. Have a good evening all...enjoyed the draft sitting.

EH-- I was thinking Beltran might slide... he's very much in the risk/reward category. Good luck w/ him.

I don't think I'll get to pick tomorrow. Anyway, I have a busy day tomorrow. I will check in tomorrow morning @ about 9 central to make my pick (hopefully). I then can check in @ about 12:00 (C) and again at 3:00 (C). It'll be hard to leave a queueueueu (or however you spell that dumb thing) b/c a lot can happen in 12 picks or so. But, if I have a pretty good idea, I'll leave it w/ someone if I can. I am busy from 6-9 tomorrow nite as well, but will have a chance to plan that out a bit more (and will hopefully be filling out positions as opposed to the best player).

I'm back - guess the wife already made my picks. You guys nearly cleared out my que. Not my favorite picks of the draft, but positions that needed to be filled.

chuck you are up after khahan, so you should be able to get who you want with the next pick. if khahan won't pick by 9, I think you should send a short 2 player que to wiggs.
I will be surprised if we will get back to you by 9pm. the big runs are usualy after that, when everybody are back home.

anyway, nice of you to post your schedule. will make it easier to track things today.

Sledge, I think since only 3 picks have passed since you made yours that you should be able to change your picks if there is someone on the board that you like better then who you originally picked. It was great that you left a queue but it was both of your picks were 2 rounds away and it wasn't really fair to make you make 2 consecutive "blind" picks.

I say change 'em if you want.

I'll just stick with what I've got. But thanks for the offer. I think that with a full year to be a closer that Smoltz will be near the top of the pack. Atlanta does win a lot of games. And Chavez put up numbers nearly identical to those of Scott Rolen last year. ( granted neither had a great season). The best available player philosophy has to go out the window at some point when there are position requirements to be met. This is for the most part a very well thought out draft. I had 15 players que'd up with 16 picks until my turn and only 5 were left. Smoltz beats the heck out of Roberto Hernandez ( who I had last year ) after waiting to draft a closer until about the 20th round.
