so, iI have some free time before I go out for the night, so I decided to make a 14th round rankings of the teams so far in this league. all, of course, are in my personal opinion.

1. wazaaap_guy
great 4 starting pitchers, 2 30-30 OFs, and a faily good hitters lineups gives him the top spot. wagner is an injury risk, but this can easily be fixed later in the draft.

2. Chuck
a great hitting team, led by piazza and his huge adventage over any other guy at catcher. a stud in zito and 2 strong closers gives chuck a very balanced team.

3. Dan
the best hitting-for-average team, along with greg maddux and rob nen. sounds good to me.

4. Mikel
great outfield trio, and chipper, but trouble from the other hitters. furcal and lieberthal are injury risks, delgado needs to prove he can play like he played 1999 again, and no 2B makes this team very unpredictable. a strong starting roatation with 2 shaky closers on the mound.

5. tduncan
the best hitting team in the league (as expected by not drafting a pitchers untill round 6). a lock '12' in steals. obviously, looks like the worst starting roatation, but nomo can be a stud back in dodger stadium, and pineiro/lidle will get their wins playing for great teams. good closers stuff as well.

6. sledge
smoltz can save 50 games if he stays healthy. thomas's and brown's health will be the most important factors in determening this team's success.

7. Mr. Nice Guy
johnson assures him the k's category, and he looks very strong in saves also. garciaparra's wrist is crutial here.

8. wiggs
could have done a lot better then clemens with the 15th overall pick.

9. blockaa
great OF, but not a lot after that. nevin and aurillia will have problems posting the same numbers as last year. and are you really gonna start ankiel as your 3rd pitcher? he is a nice bench sleeper, but counting on him to perform is not a good idea.

10. Strike One
you need an almost prefect team in order to win a 5x5 roto league with a lock '1' (saves in this case). this is a good team, but not good enouth to pull this off.

11. CanHidan Pride
one of the oldest fantasy rules says "you can't win a draft in the early rounds, but you can lose it there pretty easily".
kandell and glaus went WAY before they should have gone. if pedro won't be at the top of his game, this is easily the worst team in the league.

12. Khahan
I know you are a "rookie" and all, but pudge 4th overall? and ahead of piazaa??? I can't understand this decision. sele won't win 15 games again. he is gonna be a big bust down in anahaim.

again, let me state that all if the above is my personall opinion only. I hope you guys can respond and say what you think about the teams in the league so far. a little thrash talk never hurts.

tduncan, how can you put my team at number 10 because I'm not going to be getting very many saves (thus sacrificing SAves), when you put your team 5th, when you're focusing mostly on hitting and not so much on pitching (thus sacrificing Wins and Strikeouets). Dosen't make much sense to me.

I won't say where my team stands until after the draft, but my no means am I disapointed with my draft.

But I guess it's just an opinion

Sorry to nitpick here but the above analysis has me a little confused.

"johnson assures him the k's category"

Unfortunatley Buerhle and Pettite combined for 290 K's last season. Not exactly a powerful supporting cast.

Pedro, Colon, Wolf and Miller are all capable of striking out 200 batters.....and that is just my team. I'm sure there are other combos that will make the K category a little bit more of a race than one might think.

im bored, so here is what i think were the best picks in each round.

round 1 - vlad. 40-30 with good avg, runs, and rbi. some sites have him ranked in top 3 or 4 in roto leagues.
round 2 - mussina. 20 wins is guaranteed on yankees and with a good era whip and k's. maybe the 3rd best pitcher and not a risk like pedro or rj.
round 3 - abreu. ranked in top 6 OF on most sites for 30-30 potential with great avg, runs, rbi.
round 4 - berkman. great young of who will hit a ton of hrs.
round 5 - walker. playing in coors he will put up great numbers until he gets hurt.
round 6 - mulder. potential for 20 wins and probably a's no 3 starter means he won't go up against the big boys.
round 7 - foulke. 7th closer to go but probably a top 4. sub 1 whip last year.
round 8 - dunn. will hit a ton of hrs and went relatively late, after guys like alou and bernie.
round 9 - thomas. was hurt last year but puts up sick numbers every year when healthy.
round 10 - ortiz. 2b is a weak position and he plays in coors.
round 11 - penny. i dont' know, i think he will be big.
round 12 - sexson. 50 hrs in the 12th round, enough said.
round 13 - hidalgo. great potential playing in enron, and better than the OF's taken in the last 4 rounds IMO.
round 14 - javy. what was the 6th best catcher still doing out there?

this is all just what i think.

tduncan, I just feel Piazza is going to have an off year this year and Ivan is determined to be injury free. 4th may have been a tad early for him, but considering I feel he is the best at his position, his position is probably the weakest or second weakest (c and 2nd base in my eyes) and I didn't think he would make it back around to me, I like my pick in round 1.
Though I will add I am far happier with my team in the 3rd draft overall than I am with this one.

I actually think that 2b is one of the deeper positions. if you don't get on of the top 2 or 3 you can always find a guy that will steal you alot of bases. Catcher on the other hand. If you don't get Pudge or Piazza you're gonna get nothing anyway - they just don't put up points and they can't be counted on to play everyday. I haven't formed my opinion of the draft yet, but personally I think I'm better than 6th.

Don't take this the wrong way but, does anyone else have trouble taking criticism from a guy that makes his 1st pick for his starting rotation in the 11th round - and it's Hideo Nomo. Forget about it. The graphics you give us are great, but your analysis couldn't be further off the mark.

I'm back, but not for long. here is my que for this round:
A.J. Burnett

I will be back around 8pm ET.

sledge - thats really not fair. if you don't like my analisys, come up with one of your own. but don't make ugly personal remarks.

strike one - there is a difference between "sacrifising" a category, and still maybe taking a 5 of a 6, and totaly leaving out a category and taking a sure 1. at this point, there is really nothing you can do about it, unless you plan on putting 4 20-saves closers in your starting lineup. I can still find faily good starters.

As Strike One said earlier, I will wait until the draft is complete to give my opinion on everyone's team. Like EH, I am also excited about this league . . . I think everyone really wants to win this . . . should be some good competition.

tduncan -
Ankiel? Ankiel? Ankiel? You're knocking me for going with Ankiel? Take a look at your rotation and get back with me on that one.

I'll make a couple comments before this becomes like a fight among high school girls (which were always fun to watch... ;-). First of all, I don't know if I would say I have the #2 team. In fact, I think my team in draft #3 is better than this one by far. I find it hard to say that Piazza makes or breaks a team; catcher is only 1 position.

That being said, I still thank td for his analysis. Obviously everyone would have a different view on the draft. What I think would be interesting, though, is this. After the draft is complete, each of the 12 of us should give our listing of teams #1-12 and then take an average and then make a group average. We could even do this in "invisible ink" so that each person will show their own opinions.

As for me right now, I think I favor wazaaap_guy's team if only for the potential that it has. I still like Dan's team as a strong #2-- especially from his early draft picks. As for me, I think I'm definately in the top 12. ;-)

I actually thought you analysis of my team was right on. But I am counting on Thomas and Brown to be the All-Stars that they are. And if they are it's alot better than 6. I can only analyze my own team - that's why I draft the way I do. I'm sure that we all think we are going to win. Sorry about the off - handed comment. I just thought that was the largest oddity of the entire draft.

I was hoping to sneak Shaw in the 25th round. I think he'll sign with Cincy as well. He ought to give a pretty good hometown discount. If they are smart they won't pass him up.

Having already heard from tduncan, I'd like to hear from some of you other guys on R.Ankiel. Were any of you considering drafting him? How high? I think he could really bounce back this year. I see where tduncan was coming from - he may be a little risky to use as your #3 SP, but if he can calm the wildness I think he's a steal in the 14th round. We all know what he's capable of . .

The best thing about Ankiel is that huge upside. One of my favorite young players. I wanted him as well, but I thought maybe a little later in the draft. He was definitely on my pitchers list. #5 starters don't get a lot of chances early in the season. If you are inquiring about trade possibilities definitely look me up when this draft is over.

If we can get Dan on, we get blast through a couple. Chuck left his 1 man que and I know who I want. Would be the quickest movement we've had since before Valentine's Day.
On that note:
If you know there is a good chance you will not be able to check in for a long time (couple of hours, a day, half a day or whatever), please at least try and log on and let us know. I think we all understand if you don't want to leave a que at this point, but please at least try to let us know when you'll be gone for an extended period.

Ok, Here's my question. He is 'slated' to be in the starting rotation this season, but based on last season, he should be a closer. So, what does that make him in my team?

closer...until he qualifies at starter.

EH, you stole Nixon right out from under me. If I didn't feel I needed a pitcher that round I would have taken Nixon. Nice pick for this late in the game, I think. He should be due for at least 25 Homers and 25 SB's. If he doesn't click this season and put up big numbers, I don't think he ever will.
Now I need to find somebody else for next round.

Actually, I'll make my pick here and just let the graph start out the next thread. On that note, I have some really nice players lined up in my que and I'm not sure they will get around to me. But 2 would just be bench and I think I need to make sure my starting line up is chosen before I go too deep on the bench so...
17.4 Aaron Boone, 3B
I'm probably a bit higher on the guy than I should be, but I like his potential. He can put together some very nice strings of offense.

Had I not been so deep at 3B (Glaus and Fonzie) I would have given Boone more serious consideration. Only thing not to like is his propensity to get bitten by the injury bug. Good upside though.
