figured i would open a thread to shoot the breeze while picks and such are being made.
anyone want to evaluate the teams, or at least your own.
I am loving my squad. very strong all the way around. An infield of Bagwell, Biggio, Jeter, Cirillo, C.Johnson, and Vaughn and Walker is pretty solid. And a staff of Unit, Clemens, Reed, Milton, Wells, and Washburn is nice. Bullpen of Percival and Graves.
Find a weakness there.
I think wiggs and Puff have some great squads too. |

..... not that it's any of my business, but FYI: Graves may be converted to the rotation which will cut down on your saves.... you also don't have much in the way of SB's......

from cbs.sportsline.com
Reds manager Bob Boone said Thursday that there's no chance Graves will be converted to a starter right now. "We don't have anyone on the back end that I'm confident enough in," Boone told The Cincinnati Enquirer. "If we had someone with 42 saves waiting back there, it would be different." If you're worried about Graves losing his value by switching to the rotation, it's now safe for you to count on him to close games all season.

I was going to tell you the same thing. That leaves you weak at bullpen.

Oh then you are ok. Solid team you've done a pretty good job of filling your needs.

graves is definately closing. with percival as the other closer and guardado backing them up he has about 100 saves there. i think he will be fine.

Farn,
I know .... that's why I said may in italics. We all know situations change. Have you ever known a manager to say one thing and do another? What if the Reds get two SPs hurt? Might that change his mind? I drafted Graves as my #2 C-Loser on my keeper league, but I think it is wise to back him up. As I said, it's none of my business (just bored).

Oh, And don't discount Jeff Shaw lowering his asking price. He really wants to play in Ohio.
That would solve this part of the equation: "We don't have anyone on the back end that I'm confident enough in," Boone told The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Duncan: You have a killer OF but that cost you on your infield. Tony Clark is a high-risk/high reward pick because he is a good hitter but his back is killing the poor man. Renteria has been on a decline although SS is a scarce position so he is OK. Otherwise you are pretty much set for the season.
Wiggs: You have pretty good hitters at many positions in Helton, Bonds, Aurilia, Glaus and company although you have no catcher, maybe we can work out a trade =o). Frank Thomas definately was a good pick especially if he regains his 2000 form. Your pitching is good with Hudson and Kile as your top 2, and you seem to be pretty strong in the wins department as your pitcher are all on good teams. If Millwood pitches similarly to how he did in 1999 you have a top-flight staff. Your relievers are good, especially in the K department, although Mesa is a bit of a risk IMO. Anyways, you have a really solid team.

tavo, c- pudge can shed some LBs he will be solid for you. 1b- Sexton might be alittle weak without burnitz, or he could be fine. 2b- Ortiz and giles are middle of the pack 2nd baseman 3b - Chavez will do fine, he needs to cut the Ks SS- not a big fan of furcal, should have grabbed Tejada. OF- Looks alittle shakey, never know about berkman, could be nice, could suck. Edmonds is getting older, Cedeno will get you SBs and run. The rest, weak. SP- pedro and garcia are nice RP- You have the best closer in baseball

In all fairness it has only been THK's pick for 40 minutes. I mean we waited for Demon for like 13 hours. THK will check in, he is pretty good about making his picks. I do believe i remember him saying he had soccer or something tonight, but i dont know if he will be able to check in before that.

my bad above. I wasn't making the comment bigger because he hasn't picked and i was mad, just makes it easier for him to see if he skims through posts. That way he doesn't miss it.
on a side note, i don't mind drafting tonight, but 9pm is 24 so I will only be watching to see when its my pick. I think the same goes for wiggs.

why is it that a certain part of the draft flies by in like 10 mins but another area takes 24 hours?
i think the problem is a few managers won't leave a queue. why? because they are either afraid of losing players or they can't think of 3 or 4 players to leave.
its not hard people, if you are gonna be gone leave a queue.
or better yet, if you are online, PICK!

OK, we need to clarify (and fix) a few things.
1. If I trade a player with a 5 year deal for a player with a 5 year deal those cancel eachother out for contracts. You don't keep both contracts on your Cap. That's absurd. MLB doesn't do it and we shouldn't.
2. If I release a player and someone signs him, why would I continue to pay him while another manager also pays him? That too is absurd.
Someone else jump in here because that is nuts.

farn the trade thing was a misunderstanding, if it is 5 for 5 there is no hit. If it is 5 for 3 then there will be a hit and that makes sense. I dont agree with the dropping a player and someone else getting him causing a cap hit for 2 teams.
|
61 | tduncan
ID: 47616279 Wed, Mar 20, 2002, 23:38

1. You are wrong there boddy... when there is a trade, the contracts just swiched.
2. You should be penalized in some way for droping a player. It doesn't matter if someone else picked him or not.

and more about 2: If MLB had a salary cap, teams would have still take a cap hit for realsed players. Just like in football.
