I was tired of all the BS in the other thread so I started a new thread. Things are getting so crazy I feel I need to intervene and get a few thing straightened away.

There will be NO LIVE draft tonight. The slow draft will continue therefore if you will not have computer access tonight, please leave a short queue.

Over the weekend, I expect the slow draft to move along rather smoothly. kbridges, I understand you do not have a computer at home, therefore it will be tough for you to check frequently (Every 4 hours approx) therefore I am willing to call you each time your pick is up. I could update you with who took what players, and everything. This will keep you from giving us a queue and will keep things moving very quickly. I am very trustworthy and most gurupies know me and know I am very respectful. Hopefully this would be ok with you. Please email me your phone # at home, and what times are ok to call.

If you are unwilling to email me your phone number, so I can contact you when it is your pick, then I would suggest swapping places in the draft with ART. Just let me know which suggestions works best for you.

Everyone :
As a rule of thumb, if you are online and you see the draft is gonna be at your spot soon and you will not be at your computer at that time. Please leave atleast a 2-3 man queue. I see no problems with this. If you leave that queue and each of those players are taken, I have no problem with the draft stopping until you can be online to make your pick.

Oh yeah, I started this new thread to avoid reading anymore bitching, so please stop. No explaining yourself, nothing. Stop.

ART, I took one of ThK's picks and you did also. Ike gave me ThK's queue after I made my selection because he was going to be in class.

But I am most pissed about Izzy! I was going to grab Izzy if CC was gone! BUT NO! Bossman takes my guy...again.

Guys-
I had a recent death in the family, and due to such problems I won't be back until Sunday around 1 CST. The next time I can check back is this afternoon after school, then I will be back on Sunday...or earlier. Sorry about the inconvience. I hope everyone can understand. We can still be there on Tuesday to get the biggest chunk of this draft done.

Try and get to me by this afternoon!

wow today was slow. In defense of bossman it was just one of those timezone things, we had a busy day starting at 8 and he didn't have a break unitl 11. I am just hoping to be able to pick half of my team. Rockafellershark we be taking over my draft since I won't be able to be around on Tuesday night. I will really not have much access starting sunday at 9ammst. I think the weather in so cal will keep me away from trying to find some how to get online. MJ looked old, but it was fun to go to the game especially when it was the right price.

This is unbelievable!!! We wouldn't pick for kbridges when he wasn't here. I had a planned absence for a very viable reason, and I come back to see I get a crappy guy I don't want just to move forward 4 picks? This is insane...my closer is niether Anderson or Graves and I am not taking either one with my pick. I can't even believe you would do this ap10! Why was it that important to go forward 4 picks and give me a guy you had no idea if I wanted or not!?!

ThK, your situation and kbridges were totally different. You did have a planned absense, but you did not leave a queue with anyone. Kbridges didnt either. The difference is we knew kbridges would be selecting within the next 12 hrs and we knew you wouldnt be checking in until a full 24 hrs. That isnt the biggest reason we decided to select for you. The main reason was this. ART was leaving for an extended amount of time, starting Sunday. While he is having rfs pick for him, I felt it was only fair to let him get two more of 'his' picks before he left. Also, wiggs wouldnt be available until Monday therefore I felt the need to get his picks in also so we could complete, practically 2 more rounds, before he returned Monday. Yes we only moved 4 picks but more importantly we cleared the way to get two more rounds completed before Monday.

Secondly, you were one of the main people complaining that kbridges did not leave a queue. You left for 2.5 days and didnt leave a single pick with anyone which is a HUGE amount of time considering the time we have left.

If you are unhappy with your selection, which IMHO is very solid concerning your roster, I was generous enough to select a closer (when I didnt need one) so you could have the choice of either.

You were just online, and it is your turn to draft. Why havent you? We have waited all weekend on you, it would be very generous if you could draft ASAP, so we could move on.

This is BS! I can't believe you pulled this. I tried to leave a queue but you weren't "around". I am not drafting til this is cleared up. How does Art get priority over me? Us being both gone...he gets to pick and I don't?!? That is bull crap. You should have waited. I am not taking Graves or Anderson.

ThK, how did you try to leave a queue? YOu have my AIM name and I am on 24/7. You have my email addy.

The only suggestion I have is, you drop Graves, and i'll give you a compensatory pick right now. Therefore you will have b2b picks. I am not willing to budge from that.

How does Art get priority over me?

Art isnt getting priority over you. He is being generous and leaving rfs pick for him. Therefore he is already not going to be drafting 1/3 of his team. I felt it was fair, to make one selection for you and allow him to get 2 more picks. You have to also factor in wiggs not being around until Monday and the rest of the league.

Can you trade someone halfway through a contract? And if so, what happens to that contract, does it just disappear, or does it carry over to the new owner? And, can we make trades after the draft finishes, and before the season starts? or de have to wait for the season to start?

beebop, very good questions...

Can you trade someone halfway through a contract, and if so, what happens to that contract?

Yes, you can make a trade halfway through a contract. If you make a trade, the remaining contract remains in tact. The new owner may rework the players contract but all remaining contracts must be paid.

ie) You sign ARod to a 7 year deal

2002 - 5 contracts
2003 - 5 contracts
2004 - 7 contracts
2005 - 7 contracts
2006 - 7 contracts
2007 - 9 contracts
2008 - 9 contracts

If you decide to trade ARod during 2006, then the new owner would consume 7+9+9 = 25 contracts over a 3 year span. The new owner could rework the contract distributing those 25 contracts however they may like over the remaining 3 years.

Can we make trades after the draft finishes and before the season starts?

Yes, you may start trading as soon as the draft finishes. We may need to start the season without our complete 40 man roster, therefore you wouldnt be allowed to trade before the season starts.

let me get some feedback from some of you:

in another league I'm in, a keeper league, someone offered me Pedro Martinez for Tim Hudson straight up.....what do you think? should I do it or not?

That's a tough one Kbridges. Hudson is younger, Pedro is better, but much more fragile. He may never be the same as he was in 1998-2000. Pitching is always a crapshoot anyways. Guys peter out all the time.
One thing you have to look at is the contracts. If you will save money in the long run by taking Pedro, then do it. Otherwise, keep Hudson.

Reminder
Live Draft is being held tomorrow night at 11 pm EST.

New Rules Following Live Draft
Once the draft finishes, each person will be on a 2 hour clock to make a selection. If it has been two hours since the last person drafted, and you have not drafted your player or had someone make the selection for you, you will automatically be drafted a player. I've determined the best 'cheat sheet' to use to determine which player drafted is ESPN's Draft Tools - Average Picks. The 2 hour clock will run from 11 am EST - 1 am EST. If the two hours expires within that time frame, a player will be selected for you. If the last selection was at midnight (EST) you will not be required to draft until 1 pm EST, the next day (2 hrs after the days starting time).

Due to the holiday this weekend, I will be suspending the clock starting Saturday evening and lasting through Sunday night. If 8 or more people vote to leave the clock on, I will...

Exception
I will make ONE exception. If you leave a 5+ man queue for a 24 hour span, and at some point during that 24 hours, it is your pick and each of those 5 picks has already been selected, the draft will be halted for 6 additional hours. If you still have not selected after those 6 hrs, a pick will be made (according to the post above)

Do we need to draft 9 pitchers of 10. I believe the earlier post indicated 9. However, on the draft recap there are spaces indicating 10. Also, I seem to recall that there was a mention of a DH. Yet, I don't see a slot for one on the aforementioned draft recap. Please advise.

Sorry about tonight guys...I forgot all about it, but I had a soccer gm in Cordell (i.e. 2 hrs away), so obviously I couldn't be here. Sorry...I have another gm (HOME)tom at 7 CST so I should still be here for the live draft.

Depending on how much we get done during the live draft, the clock may be necessary. As long as you are around, or you leave a que with someone, you should be fine.
Also, i think that if we dont get the draft finished by the start of the season, as long as everyone has their 30 man roster it should be fine, and the rest of the prospects could be chosen after. Though this might be a little bit of a problem seeing as some have already been chosen...

ThK, a clock is very fair. There is no reason that a person can not leave a short queue. I'm fed up with waiting 12+ hrs for a person to pick. At that rate, we'll get done by the all star break.

Do you know what is unfair? I had to listen to you complain every other minute when kbridges wasnt picking, and he didnt leave a queue. You have held up the draft for the 3rd consecutive, much worse than kbridges ever has. Has he complained once? Why is this a double standard?

Do you know what is unfair? We are not going to be able to get the league done, therefore I am going to have to hand track/score the first week or so of the year. Why give me extra work, when we can go on a clock and speed things up?

Please, next time you complain about something, do me a favor, and put yourself in my shoes. Think outside of your mind, and think how others may feel, then comment. Think about the big picture, not just yourself. Thanks.

I just got to work. I made my pick.

I was checking the League settings yesterday and wondered about the 162 games/1250 innings cap that is set. Is that supposed to be set? I was under the impression that there was not going to be an innings cap. 1250 innings is standard for a 7-man pitching staff. It might be a little low for a 9 man staff.
Also, I would suggest as long as we get through round 25+ before the season starts, we keep our teams static until the draft is completed. In other words, we don't get the players we draft after the season starts until the draft is finished. This would probably only be for a week or so. Just some thoughts

nerfs, you are correct.

Batting Max will stay at 162 games.

Innings cap is low for a 9 man pitching staff. I am willing to change it if the league agrees.

I would suggest either 1600-1650 max IP.

14 - 18:16
15 - 28:35

During those last 5 rounds, I have caused...

30 minutes of total delay. 30 min / 5 picks = 6 min delay per pick.

(30 min / 107 hrs 30 min ) * 100 = 0.465 % of the total delay! :)

using ap10's formula, surprisingly my part of the time deficit is only roughly 9%. I've had 614 minutes delay / 5 picks= roughly 2hours per pick. I would've thought my part would have been much higher. I would shudder to think about the first couple of rounds though....

To All: I have filled in for ART as well as I could. However, I have a busy work schedule the next 2+ days and I will be at the Suns-Lakers game tonight. As the season approaches, I have to get my 13 other baseball teams in line and finish basketball. I won't have much time to look in on this draft between now and start of season. I'll try to help, but my initial offer to help was directed to Tuesaday night's draft. I hope this doesn't screw ART, but he didn't tell me when he was due back, soooo.......

Therefore, I got a website (which I intend to do a lot more with, once I have time). Please read over everything and post any questions or if you noticed I accidentally omitted something, please let me know. Thanks.

beebop Ive played in handfull of 5x5 leagues, but never with this many players active, so I couldnt hazard a guess. The only records I have from last year are for my head-to-head yahoo league (which is ALOT of fun, btw). I had roughly 300 HR's, 130 SB's, 95 wins, 60 saves. HR's and wins were above average, SB's were very good, and saves were pretty bad in that league. Remember that those teams had only 9 offensive and 7 pitching positions, though I was rotating starters quite a bit.

Question about the waiver rules: Do we take a transaction hit on releasing a player? Say if we wanted to have 2 for 1 trades, or are trading a pitcher for a hitter, we would need to be able to release players but not necesarily pick them up.

nerfs, I will get back to you on that.

Also, I've added the team by team analysis on the league webpage. Its not quite up to date yet, but I will get it up to date very soon, and will update it after every round, so I dont have to continue posting it here on rotoguru.

ap10 is my roster correct with mif and cif, doesn't one have to be a ss or 2b, if so I better get one. I think it would be better for you just to pick for me again today. I will check back in later, but once again I have limited access.

Another question: Will there be anything like an inactive roster for players who will be out for significant periods of time? I remember in previous years if a player was listed as 'DL' we had the option of putting him in a DL slot, instead of a Bench slot.

I am pretty sure that Yahoo gives each roster 1 DL spot...
