0 Subject: Pay Me or Trade Me II Draft - Part Deux

Posted by: ¤ Mario LeMoose ¤
- [2234251] Mon, Mar 25, 2002, 01:34

Continuation of thread #1.

It's Monday morning and we are about six rounds behind pace to finish our draft before the published Sandbox deadline of Wednesday, March 27, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern (that information is included in the draft tip sheet). Let's do all that we can to complete player selections by Tuesday night. Sandbox's technical integrity is always suspect (the database was "temporarily unavailable" for an extended period around mid-day both Saturday and Sunday, probably peak times for fast-live drafts); its customer service is nonexistent. Consolidation of unfilled leagues and the multi- and open-list drafts will take place on March 27; four fast-live draft sessions are scheduled the same day ... I have no confidence that we will still be able to draft unimpeded on Wednesday while all of that additional activity is underway.

Please check on your team often throughout the remainder of the draft. If you engage the autopick feature, be sure to replenish your queue regularly with eligible players.

Thirteen rounds in two days....

I'm hitting the brakes now so that managers who have been on autopick all evening will have a chance to reload.

Eat Acid's queue may have run out of players needed to fill his draft card, as his last auto selection was Jason Bere, a National League pitcher (who must be waived at the conclusion of the draft).

Sorry, deepsnapper, but you cannot keep Luis Castillo; Florida is a National League team. Luis also has to be released when the draft is over.

pogophiles, Mike V, J, Eat Acid, and Guano Baron: Please post a message here in the morning letting me know that you're ready for the draft to resume.

If any NLer was planning on drafting Castillo, LMK in this thread and we can work out a reciprocal pick. Otherwise, I'll waive his butt after the draft.

deepsnapper, Eat Acid: Players taken from the wrong league are to be released; a warning was posted before we began the draft. In effect, your AL teams have "lost a turn" by selecting NL players. If a legitimate accident had occurred earlier, brokering a reciprocal arrangement would have been acceptable ... but each of the NL teams already has at least one second baseman and several starting pitchers. NL managers who are interested in obtaining the services of Castillo and Bere will have an opportunity to place a waiver claim on those players when the draft is over.

no problemo with waiving a 21st round pick. It does give an unfair advantage to someone with a higher ranking in the waiver wire claim process over the lower ranked WW coaches. Someone who legitimately wanted to draft a player could be blocked from obtaining him due to no fault of his/her own. It shouldn't matter whether the NL teams have 2b drafted now or not. Brokering a trade would eliminate the advantage in WW priority. Something to think about for subsequent drafts especially if the error occurs in an early round when top tier players are available. Personally I would auto the remainder of the draft, but I'd preranked as an NL team and my draft list is full of NL players. It was only in the last days prior to the draft that the decision was made to make a "lottery" out of the NL teams. I was not going to rerank at that point.

deepsnapper: I understand your point; last season we had an early-round mistake that was settled via a reciprocal arrangement. Because each of us (NL managers) has a legitimate second baseman, however, we are being "deprived" only of the services of a player who would have been chosen as a back-up ... although I must admit that some of my second choices last year far outperformed their higher-drafted counterparts.

Luis Alicea is still out there, waiting for a spot on your roster. Better nab him before someone else does.
