It's that time for the first monthly standings! April was a very volatile month, but a very familiar team put together a solid last few days and came out on top. Remarkably, Nerfs took both hitting AND pitching in April, scoring a 38 and a 40.5 respectably, and picking up 83 points for the month. Dan came in second with a 68 and 49 points, and Ike was 3rd with a 60 and 20 points. Some notes: The top table is the season standings, and I have added Innings Pitched to it. I have also added +/-based on average innings per day to come under the innings cap. If you're green, youre good. If you're red, hold back those 8th and 9th starters :) Also, there were a lot of ties in WHIP and OBP this month. The stats break down to 3 digits for WHIP, and 4 digits for OBP, and yet there were still ties! TQ seems to know the numbers past what is displayed, but I do not, and in succeding months I won't be able to tell the difference between two .3612 OBP's. To keep the standings consistent I gave ties to those players based on the numbers displayed. So The standings look slightly different here than they do in TQ.

Ahh the month of May. Soft breezes, the sweet smell of flowers, thw warm sun dancing on my skin, the Nerfherders winning another month...
I swear I'm not cheating!
Those pesky *(&%^& Nerfherders take the month of May by a hair over Ike44, with Dan a close third. The same three teams came in 1,2,3 in April. Ike takes hitting with a very nice 43. Nerf's takes pitching with an okay 37. It looks to be a three team race this year, as the overall stats show Nerf, Ike, and Dan within 7 to 8 points of eachother, and the next best team about 12 points behind. But it's a long season, and anything can happen.

You were waiting for me to announce that Nerfherders won yet another month, werent you? Well you're wrong! But not by much. Bossman takes the honors with a 76, edging out Nerfs by only one point. Those three straight weeks in second place put Bossman on top. Dan still lurks in third with a 70. Nerfherders took hitting, leading in three categories. Dan took pitching, leading in two. Bossman needs another month like this and he might be able to make it a four team race.
Nerfherders wins the first half honors, scoring 81 points. He has now lead in all three half-seasons of the league. Pitching is his weakness right now, but even with a 3.95 ERA he is third.
What is it with such high ERA's this season? I suppose that the hot pitchers last year are not this year. Only one of the top 6 pitcher draftees from last year is having a good year this year (Mussina). Martinez, Johnson, and Schilling have all been hurt at times, while Morris and Maddux have been average at best. Pitchers who have emerged last year have struggled recently, like Lowe, Millwood, Perez, and Buerhle. The fact that Esteban Loazia and Jason Schmidt should start the All-Star game this year is a good indicator of what has happened with the pitching.

Last year, July was the month Nerfherders put the competition away for good. This year, it looks like Dan has done the same thing. He crushes the field with an 80.5, getting three 10's in pitching to lead that category. Nerfherders wins hitting, but is shutout of position points. Bossman continues his hot streak in the middle of the season, 3 points off the monthly lead. wiggs jumps up and takes third place.
The points standings are close now, with Nerfherders having only a slim 13 point lead. If the nerf's can get his pitching back, he might challenge and we'll see a wild September. But if he can't, Dan will keep pulling away as he did in July. And don't discount Bossman yet. He's trying to make up for a lousy start but if his recent play continues, he could challenge.

The dog days of August saw a surprise winner. No, it wasnt Dan. Nope, Not Nerfs. Not even Ike, or Bossman. Wiggs takes the month with a strong 78, dominating pitching with a 44.5. Nerfherders comes in second, 6.5 points behind, while Dan and Ike tie for 3rd at 67. Bossman takes hitting with a 43. Nerfherders and Dan vie for the points title, and its going to come down to who can get points for the month of September. If nerfherders wins points and yet stays 7 points down in the offical standings it will be interesting to see how he did it. But there's baseball yet to be played.
September is an exciting month in baseball. While 20 teams basically play out the season, 10 or so others fight for every game. This is true in fantasy as well. Dan had a nice month, winning the month with a 73.5. It might have been enough to take the points title, but Nerfherders hung in there and got third, getting just enough points to stay ahead. AP10 finished well in second place. Nerfs takes hitting with a 40, Dan takes pitching with a 39.5. Dan takes the monthly points title with 300, but nerfherders takes the overall points with 391, making the difference in the weekly standings. It tells me these two teams were closer than the overall standings indicate. Nerfherders never finished lower than 4th in any month and won 8 weeks. Dan meanwhile scored in every month, never coming in less than 3rd. Nerfherders point win is probably from having his big leads in runs, home runs, and rbi's showing up every week. He would have gladly traded the 36 home runs he had over Bossman for 20 steals and 16 wins.
