Its time to start gearing up for 2007. We'll be handling the draft through Kafenatid again this year. For 2007 we are naming 6 keepers. They are due by January 31st.

For 2008 we will be naming *7* keepers.
Draft accordingly.

In addition, Ryan, a.k.a. Great One, has agreed to collect the $10 entry fee from everybody. Check your email for his address. He sent it out to us all on Tuesday, Dec 19, so search that delete bin if you can't find it.

All checks are due before the beginning of the regular season.

Konerko, Chipper and Guillen are both on the trading block, as is any of my pitching.

If you are interested in Rollins or Figgins (my 2 main speedsters) or lesser guys with potential like Baldelli or Delmon Young just shoot me an offer.

With Manny gone, I'm not married to any guy on my roster.

I am on the clock. I am not going to pick until the mess gets straightened out. The players being picked are going to those on the top of the draft order on Kafenatid, and Wiggs' pick needs to be deleted.

The draft order still seems to be backwards. Greg probably needs to contact Fred and see how he can get the draft order reversed.

Guys, I screwed up and entered all managers in order of finish instead of reverse order of finish. To correct the problem, I simply traded all picks. Its gonna be a bit of pain, but OTC software shows the players where they should have been taken but puts them where they belong (in other words, it shows Wiggs pick in the spot it should have been taken...GO's, but it actually puts wiggs pick onto his team).

On another note, there was a trade for the first overall pick that I missed. Correcting that now and we're good to go.

With the exception of traded picks:

Khahan and Little Weasle swapped places.
Great One and Wiggs swapped places
Perm Dude and Da Bomb swapped places
Barilko and Holt swapped places
Rev and Blue Hen swapped places
Astade and Tree swapped places.

This means that my normal, non-trade picks are showing up under Little Weasle's and his picks are showing up under mine. Great Ones picks are showing up under Wiggs and Wiggs are showing up under Great Ones. Hopefully you can discern the rest.

The only real tricky part is picks that were traded.

Wiggs round 1 to Rev
Revs Round 8 to Wiggs
Khahans R9 to Blue Hen
Blue Hens R3 to Khahan
Rev R2 to GO
GO R6 to Rev
Astade R2 to Barilko
Barilko R17 to Astade
Barilko R10 to Holt
Holt R2 to Barilko
Barilko R6, R16 to GO
GO R3, R5 to Barilko

75: Rev - it looks correct in the system on Kafenatid. In the system they are listed opposite of how we do it (and we have to subtract for keeper rounds). So your trade w/ GO in the system is listed as:
rev: 8.12 GO: 11.05
Subtract 6 from both numbers and that is the person and they pick they received.

re:78 I was just going by what was written in post 73 which is written the opposite of how you explained it in post 78. No problem just wanted to make sure I had the right draft pick.

As far as correcting the draft sequence, if I remember correctly from when I entered the information for another draft, once the order was set you could not correct it.

I have no problem with starting over{with khahan plugging in the picks made up to this moment}, but it would be a lot of work for khahan.

Thanks for your work Khahan, I know its not easy plugging in all the keepers and getting the draft set up.

Everybody that is still confused about the draft, read post 73.

Very simply, if you have not actually gone in and made a pick, then you have drafted anybody yet, despite what the kafenatid site says.

Sorry for the confusion. It was due to my mistake entering the pick sequence backwards. Once again, I traded everybody's picks so we will actually pick in order. However, kafenatid will show the player drafted in the spot they were drafted (round 1..err round 7 actually because of 6 keepers) pick will be shown in that slot. But that slot is shown as Great One's on the website. If you click on the 'show all picks' link, it will show you that spot was traded to Rev. (it was actually traded to Wiggs to adjust my mistake and then traded to Rev).

Round 7 (actually our first round) pick 2 is showing as Da Bomb, but it was actually made by Perm Dude and the player picked is on perm dudes team. This follows through the whole draft. PLease see post 73.

Holt, we cannot fix it. It is what it is at this point. It is your pick. The clock is not running so you do not have to make a pick if you need time to prepare your sheets.

However, come monday when the clock is running, it will work this way. You will get an email notifying you it is your pick. You make your pick. The draft moves on. Your pick will show up under somebody elses name, but it is still your pick.

if the issue is the time it takes to re-enter the keepers into the draft, I'm sure any number of us in the league would volunteer to do it. it would only take a few minutes.

right now it seems that the only accurate way to see who picked who is by looking at the draft grid. 19 rounds of this is going to be unpleasant. for one thing, I'm looking at our draft right now and I really can't tell who is picking after me or when my next pick is coming.

i agree with Holt. i realize it's been explained. it doesn't make it look any less confusing.

i look at my roster, and it says "traded" and all that. same thing with the grid. the grid - which i think is an important tool - is going to look gigantic, because it will be double the size...

sorry guys. I've got 3 three kids at home so my evenings are shot and weekends are shot. I no longer work from home and my current employer does not allow access to the internet so my daytimes are shot. This leaves about 2 hours a day between when my kids go to bed and when I go to bed. I don't have the time that I've had in years past.

I'll email KKB and see if there is anything he can do to reset this, but if not, we're stuck. It was my mistake, and I'm sorry for the mess. I've done what I can to keep things working properly. If KKB can't do anything else about it, we'll all have to make due. The clock still starts Monday.

Khahan, I think what some were saying is that if kaftenatid can't fix it, we could just scrap this screwed up draft and they could re-input everything so we could start over. We understand you don't have the time to do everything over.

I could have done it earlier in the week, but I am heading in for LASIK in the morning and won't be able to get much done the next few days.

2. can i ask why JJ Putz is on my team suddenly, when i didn't draft him?

2. Tree, I had you drafting him before the fix got done. I inputted all picks that were made up until the point that KKB wiped everything so I could start over. Those picks stand. They were made in good faith.

Did you not have JJ Putz before? If so, then who drafted him before the wipe?

Does it pick automatically for you if you leave a que? That would be awesome and would really speed things along, but I don't think it does that. I think it still forces your designated picker to submit the name it provides from your list.

I check this thing more than anyone (read: GO has tons of free time! :) so if anyone wants to designate me a picker I will certainly keep this thing moving. I know Khahan now has limited access as well.

It doesn't auto pick, but if you make your queue "available" then your designated pickers can take the top guy available from your list. And the Admin is always a designated picker as well.

Most guys don't care, and will make everyone their designated picker. That way no one waits.

But the queue is also used just to keep guys in mind, not necessarily for a picking order.

Re: 124

If you want him, I'm fine with switching it up. But given that I kept six hitters, it's reasonable that I'd draft a pitcher with my first pick. If my first pick was really supposed to count, then I'm a little unsure why we're picking again.

I'm also having trouble visualizing this draft. Is there a way to see which picks have been traded, and exactly when I am picking next?

Blue Hen, there is a link, "View all picks"
Click on that and it tells you. I have not found a link yet that shows you when your picks are.

But basically you pick in trees spot and tree picks in your spot if you want to look ahead. As for knowing when its actually time to pick, its not a big deal because the system emails you.

He needs to let his designated picker know who to take. If he has no dp's, we need to find out who he wants and post that players name. Consider that player drafted and when I get back I can plug him into kafenatid for Da Bomb.

Hopefully the depth helps make up for some of those stacked keeper sheets other teams have.

I'm surprised Swisher lasted this long...
Was it his AVG that scared people off? Or perhaps the weak Oakland lineup?

I swear there is some sort of jinx on our draft where it ends up that someone has to use the 4-hr max over night. ;)

There's blue hen taking Mark Prior. Had him on all 3 of my RIBC teams so far. Hope he does well - might be a keeper next year.

Can someone tell me why all of my picks are reversed with Tree's? It's really hard to read the pages telling me who is on my team. No matter - I'll still win.

Well, it's a late pick, so the downside is different than it was in RIBC 2004 where he was the 6th overall pick. And even though I waited a long time to get a starting pitcher, I have a nice core with Prior and Harang. Plus a great lineup and two solid closers, so I'm sitting pretty right now. Of course, there are a bunch more rounds to go.

Pretty sure that wins give a good measure of performance, especially in fantasy. I would hate to have a starting pitcher give me only 4 decent innings and never get me a win because he's always too hurt to answer the bell in the fifth.

Then I might as well just get a couple of middle relievers and hope for some vulturing.

That being said, I don't think Prior is a bad pick at this point in the draft. Late enough to give good reward for the risk involved.

Hey guys, I just realized something. I know Wiggs timed out but I remembered him posting in the Hoops thread the following...

also 1 more thing, I have been at the hospital alot lately, my wife had surgery on 2/15 and they made a mistake, she has since had 2 more surgeries. I get access from the hotel, but i dont spend alot of time there and when I do I have honestly been focusing more on my baseball drafts.

He may be tied up with something more important along those lines so perhaps we should just give him a little time here so he doesn't get way too far behind...

Yesterday Ryan showed up on my roster in green and today he's gone.

Is it possible that somehow the weirdness of this draft caused Ryan to be traded to wiggs instead of my 8th round pick?

The draft does need to be paused because an traded pick has been missed, and thereby wiggs misses his rightful traded for pick at 14.05 and please send Ryan back to my clubhouse:)

Wiggs should have had 14.5--and he stated earlier that at least 2 players had come off his queue since the pick was missed. I would think that he should be allowed to grab one of those players as 6 or 7 spots have since gone by, which means he now ends up with pick 14.12 if he has to go to the third player on his queue. I realize that this would mess up everyone's draft, but it seems the only fair thing to do for wiggs, as the mess up was not his fault.

2nd the player taken by me at 14.5 should be deleted and put back in the draft.

Wiggs,
I know you have much more important stuff going on right now, but if you can email me the 2 players who were taken and a 3rd alternative, I will get this worked out.

Rev,
I'm not going to delete or change anything until I have all the info including Wiggs pick. This way I don't have to make too many different changes and it will give Fred a chance to figure out what happened. Obviously the trade was in because you actually made the first pick like you were supposed to and Ryan had been on your team. Something odd is up.

Really progressing here. In the 18th round, there are some serious gambles to be taken. Daniel Cabrera, on the other hand, is a sure thing. With Cabrera, Prior, and Harang, I have a shot at 700 strikeouts from starters alone.

Harang = 216 (last year's total)
Cabrera = 157 (last year's total)
Prior = 230 (200 IP * his career 10.37 K rate)

Cabrera's performance last year was in 148 innings. Pro-rate out to 200 innings and he's at 212. Both he and Prior are no sure bets to reach 200 innings, but it's definitely on the good side of "realistic."

At this point Cabrera isn't a bad pick--you really have to start doing some speculative picks at some point to differentiate.

I don't know if Cabrera will break out much from last year (I think it is more than IP--the guy pitched in 26 games, averaging under 6 IP/game because he sported a crappy ERA).

In other words he's only going to get more IP if he knocks down his ERA. Even giving him 32 appearances, at his IP/G average he gets 182 Ks.

His upside is that he's he's only 25, and has a nice skill set with which to improve.

I don't really have to defend the Cabrera pick. At this point in the draft, I'm quite pleased to get him. Anyway...

What are some signs that he will improve his ERA?
- He is 25 and players typically improve as they get older.
- He has a phenomenal K/9 rate, and such players typically break out and have great seasons.
- His ERA was 5.15 in the first half last year, and 4.26 in the second half last year, a sign that he was getting better as the year progressed.
- His ERA was 4.74, but his Component ERA was 4.56, so he was better than his ERA indicates. His DIPS ERA was 4.24, so he was also unlucky and perhaps much better than his ERA indicates.
- His ERA was 4.26 in the second half, but his Component ERA in the second half was 3.86 and his DIPS ERA in the second half was 3.76.

As you can see, Daniel Cabrera is a pitcher on the rise. In the 18th round, that's an outright steal. Perhaps I will keep him next season.

I don't know what the Vegas projections are, but I'd imagine they are very low which would be a huge advantage for you taking the over, no?

Rotowire 2007 projected
5-6, 97 IP, 4.55 ERA, 1.402 WHIP, 100 K's

Now, I certainly expect better than that from him, so it would be foolish to wager on those.

Thats why I want YOUR prediction, because the numbers above are certainly not what you have penciled in right now. Tell us what you expect his numbers to be in this "monster year" he's heading towards, as others have put it.

Let's go with...

13-9, 174 IP, 201 K, 3.81 WHIP. 12th round, I'll take it. But the over under for innings should be about 150. I'll take the over.

There are some players in the Yahoo database who aren't in the OTC database. If you find one such player, email KKB and he'll add him:

Yahoo's use of accents in some names make they difficult to find, however. Just make sure to doublecheck.

Alright Hen, lets use your estimates and count all 5 categories and it'll be a "best out of 5" of sorts.
I assume that 3.81 above was for ERA not actually WHIP lol.. cause that would be a bit high for a WHIP! picked 160 IP which is between the 150 and 174.
Let me know if you'd rather use WHIP instead of L's I guess.

Hen has... (GO the opposite)
Over 12.5 Wins
Under 8.5 Losses
Over 159.5 IP
Over 199.5 K's
Under 3.81 ERA

This would be for 10 bucks (our entry fee). Either you send me nothing at seasons end or $20.

The Lucky 13 we don't have that rule that states that the player needs to be in the Yahoo Database like we do in this league, The Dirty Dozen. I remember last year when I was not allowed to pick Delmon Young right away because he wasn't in the database.

Should we pause things until we get the official ruling from Khahan, so that GO doesn't lose his picks to others?

Yeah but if a guy IS in the database you can't pick him as a farmer, and several guys I didn't pick because of it. I didn't want Jay Bruce at all, just the best available of those not in Yahoo "players" section but not specifically in the players section within the fantasy game.

The rule has always been that the player must appear in the Yahoo player database that you reach when you go to the league screen and click on the 'players' link.

If he's not in there, he's not eligible. This is a keeper league, but it is not a prospect league. That has always been the reasoning behind it. If you want a rookie who hasn't made the database, you have to be smart w/ your waiver wire priority and catch him on the IPO.
303Khahan

In fact, last year, we had a situation with, I think Delmon Young. A manager wanted to draft him. He emailed me, I didn't see delmon and told him no luck. About 2 rounds later, Young was in the database and a different manager saw that and took him.

He's got to be available when you make the pick or the pick doesn't count. So GO, I'll back the draft up for you now before it gets ahead of you.

But this has been a rule since season 1.

Yeah, but if he can't put him on your team on the actual website then you'd have to leave an empty spot and you'd have to be monitored etc and thats a pain in the butt.

The fact that he is on Kafenatid is arbitrary because its not soley a "Yahoo" drafting utility - you could draft for CBS or whatever other website using Kafenatid and thats why he is in there.

But if that guy doesn't get added until something like September, then someone has to make sure that teams holding an empty roster spot actually hold those spots for the duration of the season.

Not saying anyone is dishonest here, but its hard to keep tabs on which team has how many roster spots that are supposed to be empty because of a prospect coming in from down the line. I played in a league where we were all friends for years, and some guys tried to slip past a guy into a roster spot...

As for Liriano, he's well worth having in a league with 3 DL slots. I just can't imagine that he'll be worth keeping at the end of 2007. Granted, the way Great One's team is shaping up...

Over 12.5 Wins

Over 159.5 IP
Over 199.5 K's

The one thing I don't like is the losses, because when he gets hurt again, he won't come near those 9 losses so you are getting a freebie...

Prior wasn't a completely terrible risk to take, a first round pick when healthy and on his game. (Yes, which has been awhile) The 12th round was a little early, but rest assured he would have went fairly soon after I think. On Kafenatid, his ADP was 201, meaning about about a 16th rounder. He went as high as 9th round in one draft.

Sure there were a lot of great players taken after Prior, but successful risks are what wins leagues.

I tell ya what, with Figgins returning, I now have some depth in the IF and plenty of speed everywhere with Lugo, Crisp, Ichiro, Victorino.
So if you need some steals, let me know. I am looking for a 3B with some pop - and they don't need to be young or have keeper potential (i.e. a Chipper Jones type).

Also, I would work Rivera into this deal as I think I have a couple closers that may take over the primary roles soon. So you could sure up Steals/Saves pretty quickly by moving a good 3B... a spot thats pretty easy to replace.

Alright, I think I need some more balance. I am looking to move one of my hitters for a pitcher. You can have Scott Rolen, Brad Hawpe, Nick Markakis, Ray Durham, or Conor Jackson for a pitcher with a nice strikeout rate in a decent park. I also have a surplus at closer, so I would consider adding one to help set it in motion.

James Loney, Brian Roberts, Dustin Pedroia, Howie Kendrick, Jhonny Peralta, Aaron Rowand, Billy Butler, Shane Victorino, and Vernon Wells are all available.

Jorge Posada is also available.

I'm basically looking to either get draft picks, or combo up for an upgrade of my keepers in some sort of package deal that gives you several players with strong potential, and me with one or two stronger players than i currently have.

I need a 3B. You can pretty much have your choice of players outside of Dunn, Hafner, Pujols, Crawford, and Tejada. But he better be good.

Awesome. Well that explains that. Maybe we can get Pujols or Hafner to play a few games at third.

If I get third, I think I might get money back, right? If that is the case, maybe Blue Hen can just hook me up with a free subscription to ESPN.

starting at #268 is some really classic stuff...

Really progressing here. In the 18th round, there are some serious gambles to be taken. Daniel Cabrera, on the other hand, is a sure thing. With Cabrera, Prior, and Harang, I have a shot at 700 strikeouts from starters alone.

If Harang has a good start today and it pushes me to 3rd... heh.

Great One, why don't you come in to Manhattan and collect?

As a reminder: This has always been a money league. The original members voted it to be a money league and each person who joined after year 1 was informed it was a money league. If you don't pay, you don't get invited back.

Money was due by the Allstar break. Any who have not paid up by the end of the world series will not be back next year. Please coordinate with GO immediately to get payment to him.

12 teams, $10 a piece is $120

1st place: $50 and a $20 donation to guru
2nd place: $30
3rd place: $20

Re: 395

Khahan, I think you should go one step further. If people haven't paid by the end of the season, then that manager forfeits their right to any winnings, AND, is not invited back.

I mean its been since April right?

Well I've got PayPal up and running with gmail address so if you want do that it would be fine. It would need to be 11 dollars with the fee from a credit card - or if you want to do 21 dollars today you would be first to pay for next season at the same time.

Just put Dirty Dozen in there and make no mention of fantasy sports or league dues or anything cause they consider it gambling.

I'll email and post this.

I think because you and Holt didn't pay at all, Astade gets third by default.

At least that would be choice....

Tree, I actually owed you 5 bucks to split Kafenatid for Strong Style... so I just took the remaining 5 and will apply it to whatever your balance is in Football 101 with the high scores and year end payouts etc.

Hen and Holt tied for third and incredibly - those are the two that didn't pay. So I guess they just split and break even and nobody has to send anyone anything.

I get the 30 for 2nd and then I'll send DaBomb a check for the 70 and he can donate some to the website at his discretion in the offseason.

Khahan - sound good?

And especially now that I have paypal and its even easier... I'd say for next year if you don't pay by Opening Day then you are ineligible for prizes that year.

Let's make it April 22. That'll give a bit of time to get everything in order (including the IRS), but still have a deadline that must be met. I'll be on time next year, I promise.

Think we'll be sticking with Opening Day. Its 5 months away. If you need help budgeting to make that deadline - starting Nov 1st you should just put aside 50 cents a week (or 2 dollars a month) and by Opening Day 2008 you'll have reached your goal of $10.
