Everyone should have received an email from me. If not email me and let me know what your new email address is. In that email, I've listed final rosters from last season, final order from last season, and suggestions to rule changes for this upcoming season. Here is where you should make suggestion for changes which you would like to take effect. Any suggestion will be to a vote.

There was one thing I didn't list in the email. MITH traded a player for a draft pick. I have that info somewhere. Remind me if you remember what it was.

Got the email, thanks.

I would be against an IP lowering. Particularly for those of us working our way from the bottom of the standings, we need as many IPs as we can, as we tend to take more chances on younger or riskier pitchers.

I'm all for adding a player or two, but if we add a P, I'm not sure we should decrease the IP. Also, don't forget, by adding player(s), we decrease the size of the FA pool. One of the things I really enjoy about this league is having only 10 teams with limited rooster space and a huge FA pool.

One thing I'd like to throw out. Despite winning the league the last 2 years and having at least 8 ligitamate keepers, I think that it could increase overall competition by decreasing the number of keepers, even if it was only for a year or two.

Just looking at the last 2 years, it seems to come down to 4 or 5 teams by August, and down to about 3 teams the last month. Don't get me wrong, I've got no room to complain, and it's not been easy to win either year. I'd just like to make it a little easier for the teams at the bottom to get to the top in a year or two. I'm in another league where I'm struggling to rebuild and it's a very difficult and frustrating task to compete with teams whose rosters are seemingly stacked.

Just a thought. I've certainly got no problem with the status quo, I just want ensure that we increase/maintain competive balance, if that's what's right for this league.

I heartily agree with mjd. Reducing the keepers will place more top end players in the draft pool..allowing the scum sucking bottom feeders (like me) a chance to become competitive.

Suggestion 1: Yes to DH (no to OF)...Yes to add P

Sugg #2: reduce to 1450 (1400 favors stud SP which are very short supply)

Sugg #3: add 2 DL OK

Sugg #4: No change to OBP (avg eliminates players like Dunn, OPS favors HR hitters which is already a category)

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand everyones reasonings for not wanting to change to OPS. I just regret not doing that from the start. I simply feel it is a more acurate gauge of a players value. My hopes on this one weren't too high.

Deep down I'm still 3 years old.

Suggestion 1: DH and P (Yes)

Suggestion 2: 1450 (Yes)

Suggestion 3: 1 DL

Suggestion 4: Would vote yes OPS next year.

As for reducing keepers I can see your point " Reducing the keepers will place more top end players in the draft pool.." Most league have a reduced number of keepers. But I do like the fact of having 1 league were I can keep most of my team together. Took some chances in the draft with younger players that paid off. I'm also in league where I was bottom feeder. And made a push to middle of the pack last year. With hopes of making the top 3 this year. Guess I'm selfish and dont want to give up team. Would be in favor of a non snake draft. But if the league votes for a reduce amount will go with it. Guess I can help Im a draft god. ;P

I'm against change to OPS. OBP typically replaces BA. If we want another percent for hitters, change HR to Slugging percentage. That was proposed in the Manniti league last year, that many of us are in, and even though I voted it down, I'm warming to the idea.

I'm also against adding 2 DL. Especially if we add 1 or 2 players to the active roster. Again, by adding to rosters, we decrease the available FA player pool. This from a guy who had perennial DLer, Eric Gagne, on his team the last 2 years.

I'm still hashing out my feelings about decreasing keepers. Is the last pick in a non-serpentine draft a big enough handicap to the champion of a ten team league? I never thought that I'd even be able to repeat, given that handicap, but I was wrong. As to the team I mentioned in post 9. Last year, I took over a last place team in a 12 team league and just about turned over the entire roster on FA rookies and the like. Well, I was able to improve to 5th place by the end of the year. But I doubt that I'll improve beyond that anytime soon. The teams finishing ahead of me are seriously stacked.

On the other hand, can it realistically be expected to have more than half of a ten team league be competitive for the championship in any given year? But what if it's the same 5 teams every year? I expect some resistance from those strong teams who were very close last year and who could very well win it all this year.

I have as much to lose as anyone and I'm proposing this move. Sure, I love winning and it's very satisfying, but I find it somewhat bittersweet. I fought hard and achieved my goal of winning the championship but when the season is over the buzz of daily competition is done.

I've posted a link here in the Standings forum looking for a new manager. I've received a few suggestions so far. On Sunday night I will email the group for your opinions on the final candidates. I've been having email problems, so you may receive emails from my yahoo account. Do not email me there, I rarely check it. I've been receiving all emails sent to my normal address so keep doing that.

Have any interested managers email me at matthew@necroto.com and introduce themselves. You should all hear from me tomorrow night.

This is a copy of the email I just sent everyone. Please email me with your thoughts.

We thought this process would be best if kept anonymous. The plan is that I list the potential managers and have you all email me with your opinions of each and an order of preference. I am taking myself out of the equation by not making any votes unless there is a need for a tie breaker.

Ok, there were three names mentioned in this search.

1 - Mike Vivian – known as Dilligad – His biggest advantage is that we know he is a competitive manager, 3rd FreeRob 2006, 4th in 2005 and 3rd in 2004. He is also very interested. He has emailed me twice. His biggest disadvantage is that he is a FreeRob manager. Our league and the FreeRob league have many similar managers already. Do we want or care about another one?

2 - David Hammick – known as Mudville9 – He was recommended by one of our managers. This manager did not contact me, I do not know if he is interested. I do not know him at all.

3 – Snap? – Recommended by Perm Dude on the message board. This manager did not contact me, I do not know if he is interested. I do not know him at all.

Please get back to me with your thoughts as soon as possible. I would like to make this decision tomorrow night.

The manager chosen was Mudville 9. He warned me about one thing, he will not be able to start drafting until 3/12. If starting the draft on 3/12 is a problem for anyone, let me know now. If this isn’t a problem for anyone, we will move forward with Mudville 9 as the new manager, and the draft will begin 3/12 (keepers the prior Friday 3/9 by midnight).

Try to get back to me as soon as possible. I would like this decision final tonight.

So far, I've received two votes for the 3/12 draft date and none against. We will need this decision made tonight. I am going to tentatively set this vote to end at 11pm tonight. We need to move forward.

I think I remember this draft lasting about a week. Assuming things run at least smoother then we are used to, about one week should do it, give or take a day.

The reason for the delay.

When Mudville 9 had contacted me, he was declining stating that he didn't want to run the league only manage a team. He misunderstood Donny's invite and thought we were looking for a commish. Being that he won, I wanted to be sure he was or wasn't interested before we moved on. He contacted me today informing me about not being around until 3/12. If we needed to start earlier then that, he would decline. This is why I was looking for a vote this afternoon.

We will move forward. If anyone has a conflict, let us know and we will figure it out.

I've just sent this email to everyone again. Let me know if you've receive this. Also, please reread the change proposals and revote.

Being that we now have our 10 again, I was hoping to finalize some issues. Mostly for Mudville, but also for anyone who needs, here are the rosters, order, and three rules change proposals. I’ve changed the rule change proposals slightly so I would like everyone to revote even if you had done so already.

KEEPERS ARE OFFICIALLY DUE MARCH 9th AT MIDNIGHT!! If you do not post your keepers on the message board, I will have no choice but to have my dog Jax pick your roster. She is better then you’d think, but she over values left handed curve ball pitchers and latino middle infielders with nice butts.

THE DRAFT OFFICIALLY BEGINS MONDAY MARCH 12th at 7pm!! We will be using Dekafenatid this year. Donny, let me know what the cost is, I will split it with you. Peak hours will be 7pm to 11pm Monday thru Friday, 1 hour clock, weekend 10 am – 10 pm, 4 hour clock. I think that was our weekend clock from last year. I would rather not search thru last years postings unless I absolutely have to. If this is a problem with anyone, bring it up now. I will open the season some time the weekend of 3/10 – 3/11, and you may start drafting as soon as you like. There will be no clock during off-peak hours, but picking is always encouraged. We have a very good group. I doubt we will have any major issues.

The league discussion board is http://rotoguru1.com/cgi-bin/mb/basest/7339.shtml?1172582565, please vote and have all internal league discussions here.

Complete rosters are listed below in no order whatsoever. Teams and positions reflect all off-seasons changes up to the time of this email.

This is the final order from end of last season. This years draft will be the reverse order, non-snake.

1 – MJD
2 – MUDVILLE
3 – GOLF FREAK
4 – STEALTH
5 – MITH
6 – PROTEINS
7 – WIGGS
8 – TAXMAN
9 – PERM DUDE
10 – Y2JS

POSITIONS: (CURRENT ROSTER 22, 2 DL)
1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, C, OF, OF, OF, U, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, P, B, B, B, B

5X5 SCORING
HR, R, RBI, SB, OBP, W, S, K, ERA, WHIP

I have a few new suggestions for changes this year, which as always will be put to a vote. If anyone has rules changes which they would like to see implemented, please suggest it on the message board and we will vote on it.

Suggestion 1: Adding 2 players to our roster. Mith and I have been throwing this idea around for a few years and I think it is time. I would like to add one player to the offense under the OF or DH position, and one player to pitchers under position P.

Suggestion 2: Bring the IP limit down from 1500 to 1400 (or 1450 if suggestion 1 is approved). I was against an innings limit when it was originally brought up and I have changed my mind.

Suggestion 3: Adding at least one additional DL position, possibly two. We’ve all been killed by injuries the last few seasons. I hate having DL players on my bench. Last season I didn’t have a bench for over one month.

Suggestion 4: Changing OBP to OPS in 2008. I know this has been declined in the past. I personally hate this and wished we never set it up this way. I still feel it is a far better gauge of a player’s ability and value. I don’t like OBP at all, besides being better than BA. Two alternatives have been brought up and I am completely open to them both. One brought up last year and this year was to have the change go into effect not this season, but next season. Being that this is the third season I am proposing this trade I am 100% behind this option. The second option is to change HR to SLG instead. This wouldn’t be my first choice, but it is progress in that it is a better gauge of said player’s abilities and value.

I would be absolutely against lowering the IP limit, especially coupled with an increase in the number of pitchers! That makes no sense to me.

My votes:

1. Yes, an additional hitting position (UT would be best) and P.

2. No way.

3. Yes to adding one DL spot.

4. Yes to changing to OPS beginning with the 2008 season.

OFFICIAL VOTES:

Prop 1: 9-0 - Yes. Wow, we've never completely agreed to anything. This now seems way overdue. We will add 1 UT and 1 P to have a total roster of 24 now, not 22.

Prop 2: 6-2-1 - No/1400/1450. We will see what happens this season and reevaluate next year. For now, we will stay at 1500.

Prop 3: 8-1 - Yes. We will add one DL position this season.

Prop 4: 6/3 - No. We will not change from OBP to OPS.

I would also like to verify last years mid-season trade.

WIGGS received:
Harden + 4th round pick

MITH received:
Capuano + 7th round pick

Both managers verify and I will upload it with the keepers.

I caught Brian Cashman on Mike & The Mad Dog today who showered some pretty hefty praise on Dice-K.

MITH: I didn't think too highly of him when I first saw him, but the more I see the more I like. In another league I took him with the first pick, then traded him for Halladay and Todd Jones. So I'm not the only one!

Rotowire projects him at 15-9, 3.77 ERA with 210 Ks. Sportsline projects him at 15-8, 3.62 ERA with 190K.

Worth a shot.

I just hate taking AL East pitchers. They almost have to be head and shoulders above the rest to get the same numbers. Too many runs. Even teams like Baltimore and Tampa will score some runs in bunches.

Well not all responsible people have been checking in. I was/continue to be clueless. The wife is pretty stable a month out from the surgery, this morning a close friend passed after a battle with stomach cancer. Kinda throws my deal in the air as I need to be in Dallas for that, but also need to be here in Austin by the wife....and oh, I am on the clock.

Big thanks to Dave Hammick (Mudville 9) for calling my cell to tell me the draft was underway and I was halfway through my clock. Hopefully Dave or PD can keep me posted visa phone when I do take off for dallas.

That is as far as we are going for an hour or so. I have Y2Js's queue at home. I will be going home in about an hour to walk the dog. I will make his next pick then. My queue is now gone, so my pick will have to wait until after work.

Slow start, but we've picked it up nicely. Very good pace for 13 or so hours of drafting. Keep it up boys.

There are times I hate the Queue system.

The pick of Wickman was not intended and definetly a low priority item for a bottom feeder. I got tied up with rehab logistics and didn't get back to my computer till Wiggs was up. :<(
