Hey everybody...Kind of last second. I'm going to be out of town with little to know internet access from tomorrow miday PST until late afternoon Sunday. I'm going to leave a super long queue with my brother who will make picks for me, and he may need to leave them with you as his free time dictates. Sorry for the inconvenience guys.

BTW, I've noticed I have a bit of a glut of 3rd basemen and to a lesser extent I think Outfield with Ethier, Swisher, Wilkerson, Gomes, Willingham, Hairston, Kubel, Cabrera, Atkins, and Ensberg and Quentin on the way. I'm looking for a second basemen and am willing to send off or take on picks as part of the deal. If anyone can get an offer to me soon we may be able to work it out, otherwise it can wait until Sunday/Monday to be addressed.

Bogus picks again... please use the 'find' command on the taken players or predraft07 spreadsheets if you are unsure if a player is taken. Bogus picks slow things down and create confusion. If you make a bogus pick your clock is up so make sure before hitting the post button.

Heading out now... I'm wondering if we shouldn't wait to see what happened with CV before proceeding any further?

The clock doesn't run on weekends anyway...

Is the clock running on weekends or not. I really don't have a preference. However, the original post seemed to indicate that the draft clock only runs during the week.

Soooooo sorry gang...had a lifelong friend who has been stationed in Kuwait get an unexpected leave, and he and his wife showed up Friday evening. He's one of the ones who shouldn't have ever been called to go (37 years old, a Captain in the reserves), and he's been over there for 19 months - something I couldn't get away from.

Yeah I would have loved to still have my 2nd rounder, but looking back to last year iirc I got some quality for it. I just need freaking Clemens to decide to pitch or retire ASAP, since for contract purposes if he retires mid-season the cap relief I'll get isn't worth nearly as much to me as it would be if I had it now. grrr...

I'm not surprised...that news is consistent with everything else I've done wrong this draft. I've been in such a rush I've been messing everything up that I possibly can. I just need to slow down, get my cheat sheet up to speed and write out a long queue so I'll be set for whatever comes up next.

For clv's pick of Chris Young... I almost picked him too. It may be because he is listed as "Chris B Young" on the prospects page... as there is also a Chris Young who is a pitcher on the Padres (and under a TPKL contract), so I guess we needed to differentiate.

Emailing a one-man queue to Nerf, I'm pretty sure he'll be available.

Clock starts up again at 7am PST, which means even if the next two picks come in I have until 9am PST... which is about when I usually get up... so if my player is gone, I should be able to get online around that time (but certainly no sooner).

Okay, I am clarifying a rule that no team can ever have more than 10 prospects at any one time. Those of you who have drafted over the limit will need to drop or call up prospects to stay at the 10 limit. I dont like the idea of teams loading up on extra prospects during a draft so that they can pick and chose who they want to keep later. If you want to draft prospects, make room for them. In the future, if you trade for prospects, you have to make room for them. I know I did not do this with beebop and clv's offseason trade and I admit that I should have. The prospect roster should have the same restrictions on limits as the active roster does.

Is it my pick, or we need to wait for a Martin repick???
51Andrew

      Thu, Mar 15, 2007, 18:40
Last year I was told that I didn't need to clarify whether a pick was a prospect or major league roster player until the end of the draft. I was under the impression that I could wait and see how many prospects would be available for me to get in the draft before I called all my prospects up. I want to call up Russ Martin, Jason Kubel, Josh Willingham and Scott Hairston, but if I can't find a better prospect then Hairston in the draft I want to leave him in the minors. I told Nerf before the draft that i wanted to call prospects up and he told me I could wait. Can I draft a player in conjunction with calling a player up, thus staying at 10 prospects...if not, then why not? The way I see it I'm not ever going over 10 limit. Maybe the logistics are a little off as far as timing(by a few meaningless hours) but I think its fair. Theoretically I should be able to call a prospect up to my major league roster and sign them for 1 or 2 or however many years and then draft a prospect onto the prospect roster that now has an available slot.

Yeah, I think we were lax last year with the 10 prospect rule, but it makes sense to keep it enforced. But I agree with Andrew, your callups shouldn't necessarily need to be determined pre-draft. If mid-draft there's a prospect you like but your prospect roster is full, you should still be able to draft that player, AS LONG AS you indicate which player you are calling up in that same post. Thus, it's a simultaneous move, prospects never exceed 10.

The contract of the called up player is determined post-draft just like all other resignings, draft picks, etc.

Thanks for the input. Nerf and I were e-mailing back and forth and he said that he'll call up the first 3 and that if I draft a 4th prospect he'll automatically call up Hairston. So its basically what you are saying. I think according to Jason CLV has to call someone up or drop someone still, and then we are all taken care of. I'm not sure though.
58Doug

Cool... from here on out though I'd like to see people try to post the callup simultaneous with making the pick if possible... just seems like it'll make things simpler. I don't care if they post here or in the draft thread itself... normally I'd say in the draft thread with picks in bold and supplemental info in non-bold, but people seem to have problems with bolding... so maybe here is better. One other note... I discovered that there is an option in Excel to do a find for an entire worksheet. If you'd prefer to do that than use the taken player's list. I do that by hand and there were a few I missed, I think. Anyways...
Also, Mike Pelfrey has been on a few people's queues. He's taken, however I misspelled his name on the rosters. This is corrected.

There's a slight change in the draft matrix. I miscounted beebop's total draft picks. I believe he gets 3 picks in round 22 instead of 4. In addition, wiggs dropped Harvey for his third prospect pick so he gets an extra pick at the end of the draft.

I am going to write these prospect drafting rules into our league overview and set it in stone.
