0 Subject: NBBL Post and Offseason Discussion

Posted by: Matt G - [486422615] Fri, Sep 07, 2007, 11:16

Gents it's Post season time congrats to all that have made the playoffs, and all that have won money already... Checks will go out after the World Series. We have a couple issues to discuss.

First
If right now you are 100% sure you will not be returning next year, please let me know we will replace you.

Second
It is time to start thinking about expiring contracts and resigns. I've helped you all out by creating a nifty spread sheet for this.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pZTV6WskHYkaKyxMrURd-PQ

Find your name, it will list all the of Expiring Contracts on your team(this year it is only 1 year guys) it will tell you how many of them you can resign so that you have your 12 expirings. And how many Dollas you have left RIGHT NOW. There will be Dollas dispursed after the season according to placement and also at the beginning of next season.

Keep in mind, these are guys that if you don't resign now, they become RFA and will go into the bidding pool. This does not include guys who you want to Upgrade, that would be a 2 or 3 year contract that you want to extend past that time. These are just guys that are expiring at the end of the season.

To resign a guy now, it is 2 dollas per contract year. There is no extra 1 dolla fee that doesn't come into affect until RFA. As for Upgrading a guy, same deal, no 1 dolla fee, 2 dollas per contract year. Only 2/3 year guys can be upgraded.
Here are our links of rules and contracts:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ddw85pd2_6gsmc9b
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pZTV6WskHYkYUhd7TYZTEBw

Please take a brief look at these make sure they are all up to date, if i missed something I'll fix it now.

Upgrades, Re-signs, and other moves are due 10 days after the last day of the world series.

Every day after that is a 1 dolla penalty, and you can go into the negative. Any Questions, Please Post here...

Any rule changes or clarifications, please let me know. I want to have ALL rules set for next year PRIOR to RFA starting in January. So that includes proposals, and voting.

thanks!

Yes you can add/drop during the playoffs.

GF yes you are correct. $2 for 1 year contract, $4 for 2 years.

When you sign a guy in the RFA bidding period there is a 1 Dolla fee... The guy is Automatically on a 1 year contract at that time. You can upgrade that contract for $2 a year.

IE Bid and sign Brad Penny for $10. The cost is $10 +$1 in RFA then you upgrade him to a 2 year contract, thats $2.

I already got Tony's(quiefs) move.

I'll mark your move down TRee.

thanks!

Just wondering why I didnt move on?

During season me and WG were 1-1 heads up. I had most wins for season.

What was the tie breaker?

Great match up switched back and forth all week. Has been a fun season. Everyone have a good off season.

i think i read ERA is the first tie-breaker.

oughta be a really good finals between WG and myself. if you check the head-to-head stats (wins and losses during the season in individual categories, we are REALLY close)...

Two questions:

1. Do I have to resign anyone of my expiring contracts?

2.If I upgrade a player how many dollas does it cost. For instance if I have a guy on a 2yr contract and I want to make it 5 how much? is there a difference if I want to go from 3 to 5?

Guys all this is in the rules...

I belive first tie breaker is ERA as well... I can double check?

Philly, you don't have to resign any, as long as AT LEAST 12 are expiring...

Contracts can be upgraded for 2 dollas per year... You must upgrade a contract by at least 2 years...

I would say that after resigns and upgrades are done, through to next year... trading is open...

what does everyone think?

well, once we do re-signs and upgrades, doesn't that make everyone we don't re-sign a free agent as we've decided not to keep them.

i'm wondering if we should do it in reverse order. open up a two week trading period - sort of a Hot Stove League - and push the re-sign period back a couple weeks.

it also gives guys with very little Dollas to try and gain some more via trading...

resigns must be in to me two weeks after the WS is over...

how about after our season ends until then you can trade...

???

If you are trading guys that could get hurt during the playoffs thats up to you...

and remember once our places are set, dollas go out for finishes according to the rules... ill send a league email.

Congrats WG -

you had a helluva postseason. from the first day of games in the championship round, you put me on my heels, and i never could catch up.

GF - dominating regular season. you ended up not coming in the money during the playoffs, but broke even with a run in the regular season nearly from wire-to-wire.

Matt - super job of running and creating this league. i have NEVER enjoyed an H2H baseball league, but the format (contracts and such) of this league made it work, and i had a lot of fun. i look forward to coming back next season.

everyone else - it's been fun. thanks for making this an enjoyable, competitive league.

Guys I sent out an email with the winnings in, once I hear from the guys due money I can send checks out. Please get me your address or your paypal so I can send them out...

Also, I still need to hear from a few of you on next year, we need to keep communication open so that we can avoid penalties.

Upcoming Dates:
Trading is open until 2 weeks past the WS... Please keep an eye on this. Contracts are due at that time too and there is a penalty if you dont have them in...

Dollas will be awarded according to the rules and finish once the WS is done... Gives me time to get the money out etc.

Thanks for a great year, let me know if you want rule changes and lets get ready for next year!!!

Congrats to WG the first NBBL Champion.

I've heard from all of the league money winners, I'll be sending out checks this week... I still need Tree's address or paypal info.

I have only heard from 75% of the league since the end of the season, I'd like to avoid having to hunt people down... if you see anyone who is in this league, just remind them that 2 weeks after the WS is when upgrades, etc are due...

After that we have a lull until december when we start planning for RFA...

I want to keep this league active.

I have added two tabs to the Contracts SpreadSheet... One is accounting, for paid dues, one is Awards for winners.

We have already 4 people paid for next year, and 3 for the following year.

I like to see that kinda dedication.

So if you see this, and you might not have responded, send me an email... please

I thought we weren't getting our end of season bones until after the upgrade point of the season.

Wouldn't it make more sense to penalize people who have used up all of their bones during the season so they can only have them as RFAs?

Dollas are assigned when the season ends, that is the end of the worldseries. It was in the calendar all year that this would be the date.

Being that we can only upgrade a certain number of players I don't think it'd really matter...

Plus, people complained about not having enough dollas as it was, I'd rather not penalize anymore.

so, explain to me again how this part works.

i've got 14 guys with one year contracts.

1. this means i can re-sign up to two of them, right, with no bidding or anything?

2. i can assign them any contract year value, as long as i still have 12 guys next year with expiring contracts, *and* don't exceed 50 for next season.

3. i can bid, using my 18 dollas, on players that are not re-signed by their current teams.

is all that right?

Tree You are very close...

You have 14 expiring contracts, meaning you can resign any 2 of them to 1+ years of contracts at 2 dollas per year.

You are correct on #2 except for the whole assigning a year, cause you have to pay for the years signed, only the original draft did we assign years, yes you must stay under 50 years.

During RFA we will bid on the guys not signed by each team... thats not until January...

You have 18 Dollas for Resigns and RFA to target players...

After RFA is done, we have a FA draft of anyone not won in RFA and players who are not on rosters.

After that draft 20 dollas are given to each team...

you will be able to fill our your team, one way or another.

Do I have to have a full team of 25 after the FA draft before the other 20 dollas is given out?

As it ran before we moved to the NBBL anyone on your team in the final year becomes a RFA. And there is FA bidding on players, which the old owner can match. Then everyone left over comes into the Draft and just draft like normal until you have 25 players.

You can drop guys with 2-3year contracts, but obviously you have to pay for that, and we still have to pay for this year, and will until the year flips.

You can trade for all the 1 year guys you want, as long as 12 of them are expiring.

GF already answered the deadline question.

GL is correct, buying out a contract makes them a FA not a RFA.

To resign a guy now, it is 2 dollas per contract year. There is no extra 1 dolla fee that doesn't come into affect until RFA. As for Upgrading a guy, same deal, no 1 dolla fee, 2 dollas per contract year. Only 2/3 year guys can be upgraded.

so, can this be explained to me a bit more, using examples.

let's say i resign Pedroia, who's contract is expiring. if i sign him to a one-year deal, it's 2 bucks. two years, 4 bucks, and so on.

what about Prince Fielder? he's dropping from 2 years to 1 year. can i re-sign him right now to a 4 year deal? if so, is it going from 2 to 4 (and costing me 4 bucks), or 1 to 4 (and costing me 6 bucks)?

thanks,

Wow lots of questions maybe you guys shouldn't of waited until the last minute, Huh???? jk

I see I HATE PHILLY tried to get his contracts in above, I think he got the resign concept screwed up as well... I'll explain it below... But I have to make a judgement call on his and lidge is now a 2 year contract from 2008-2010 as thats all he can do.

There are two concepts here that you guys need to be aware of that I think some of you are mixing up.

At the end of a year there are a group of contracts that EXPIRE. These are the guys you have set to 1 year deals or next year guys that you have set to 2 year deals. Out of those guys, you MUST allow 12 of them to hit RFA... It doesn't matter which 12.

An EXPIRING contract may be resigned for ANY NUMBER of years, as long as your Roster falls within the CAP and other roster rules defined in the rules document. You know, exactly 25 guys, no more than 50 years, at least 1 5 year guy... etc.

So if Prince Fielder is a 2 year guy, and next year he expires, you can resign him to any contract you desire, there is no 2 year rule for an expiring contract.

When you are UPGRADING a contract, that is a guy in the middle of a contract(say a 3 year guy) YOU MUST upgrade by 2 years or more. If you have Torii Hunter in a 3 year contract, and it's year 1, you can only upgrade him to a 5 year contract. If you have Torii Hunter, in year 3 (the last year) of a 3 year contract, you can only upgrade him for 2 years, to a 5 year contract. It is the total contract length that matters... so if he is 2007 - 2010.... and you want him for longer than that, you can only upgrade him for 2 years and he becomes 2007-2012.

Not until he EXPIRES is he available to be signed to any contract you like.

Only contracts from year 1-3 can be UPGRADED, they must be upgraded by 2 years or more. Therefore guys in 4 or 5 year contracts must expire before being RESIGNED.

The Prince Fielder question, he's not going from 2-1 he is always a 2, you have to UPGRADE by at least 2 years, therefore you can resigned him now to a 4 or 5 year deal, that would run 2007-2011 or 2007-2012... Think of an upgrade like a contract extension.

If you sent your resigns to my email then I got them, if they were ok or not I let you know. via email... JT I got yours and we spoke on IM you had your dollas screwed up but you still were able to get all your guys resigned... GF I got yours a long time ago, thanks and they have been entered.... I am waiting for all the last minute guys to do them all at once.

still not quite getting it - if i move Fielder from a 2 to a 4 right now, does that cost me 4 dollas? (i think that's the only question i'm not 100 percent on)

it's the dollas that are confusing me. are there any contract upgrades/extensions/whatever that DON'T cost dollas, or is everything 2 dollas per year?

Everything is 2 dollas per year...

If you move Fielder from a 2-4 now, its 4 dollas.

if you move Fielder from a 2-4 after January 1st, its still 4 dollas.

you are really close i replied with an explanation...

The only contracts that are counted as started this year are resigns... the upgrades are counted as starting when you first signed the contract.

All contracts are in, thank you guys, didn't have to doc anyone any dollas... It is not officially time for rule changes. Please take a look at the rules document, make sure you understand how RFA works, also take a look at your rosters and the RFA available...

Have a happy Thanks giving
