Know its a little preliminary but I wanted to see if there was some interest to keep the league going (I remember we usually drafted in mid-late Feb. I also owe some prizes out to the top 2. I think I'll just go w/ the premium pack of baseball cards for both 1st and 2nd. We'll be spending between 15-20 a pack hope you guys pull something good! (Oh yeah and let me know who finished 1st and 2nd last year!) |

I am definitely interested again. However I won't be able to have time to commish the setup of the league this year. March is going to be very busy for me. I can help out during the year, but not in March.
Also, If I recall correctly, I do remember being a two time winner until this past year. I think all the extra work serving as interim commish is directly related to my disappointing 5th place finish.

I have a fear that we don't know who the farmers are cause I have no idea where they would be.
TRS from last year about possibly amending farmer eligibility rules. I do plan on revising the farmer rules for next year.
Likely...Farmers: 0 major league experience (or some very limited amount TBD)
if the player is in the yahoo db you must roster him (will have to think about a time limit or warning system or something...because I do agree it seems Yahoo randomly adds players and if they are not in the bigs it is hard to recognize when they are added.)
if retained farmers are traded they lose retention status (I do not want managers to be able to trade for a roster full of retainers)
if you you have a retained farmer (like gordon or Dice K this year) that did not play in the bigs last year but is making an opening day roster they still fill your farmer slot this year (cannot draft a farmer). On the second year of retention you can draft another farmer.
The above is the direction I am headed anyway...I am open to suggestions...the farmer thing is just supposed to add a positive element to the league...add some intrigue to the draft...give everyone else something to look at...I think we can come up with a set of rules that works for everyone.

I'm OK with OBP but I'd prefer to stick with HR over SLG%. Besides one long standing league I don't think I'm in anything that uses straight homers anymore. I won't argue agaimst it if everyone wants to change it, but I'd rather keep HRs

Guys...I think I am going to have to bow out this year, unfortunately. I am going to be working on a cruise ship for two weeks in March, and it will too difficult for me to keep up, and thus I am sure I will be holding up the draft on a regular basis.
In the past I was always the guy who picked 2 minutes after the guy in front of me, and I never want to become the guy who everyone has to wait 4 hours for.
I had a great time with this league, and will definitely miss it, and hope their will be an open slot again next year.
I have the keepers and late round info at work, I know my team will be keeping Nick Markakis and Alex Gordon, so that is a great head start for a new manager.

Barilko - if we started next week sometime and did it the last two weeks of February... it just might leak a few days into March. You could leave a nice long list of potential guys for the last few rounds and not miss much.
When are you leaving? we could just work backwards a couple weeks before that time. Also, I would say we should use Kafenatid (if we didn't use in years prior).
And based on my feedback along with Jackhammers - I think the proposed stat categories would be OBP, HR, R, RBI, SB W, S, K, ERA, WHIP

I think Barilko is gonna come around as long as we can get this thing started in a week or so. Even if we set it up on Kafenatid with no time limit for now just to get it rolling.
I'll pay for the Kafenatid draft, anyone that wants to donate a couple bucks to the cause can paypal it to me. Slizz can give me like 2 bucks in cash so that would be easier if he was in.

Like I said, let me know if I have missed anything.
Remember, you lose your right to a farmer if you don't call him up within 5 days of his being added to the Yahoo Database.
PROPOSED RULE CHANGE:
All farmers drafted from here on in, must have ZERO games of Major League Experience, AND, then you retain his rights for the entire year, whether you call him up or not. At the end of the year, you must claim him as a member of your roster, or lose him.
Thoughts on that?
|
50 | barilko6
ID: 180102816 Fri, Feb 08, 2008, 15:36
|
I think that proposed rule change will serve two purposes: You won't have to watch the database like crazy to see if your guy got called up AND all farmers start off on equal footing. (Zero Games)
|
51 | barilko6
ID: 180102816 Fri, Feb 08, 2008, 15:38
|
Add to Farmer Rule: Player must not be in the Yahoo Database at time of draft.
|
52 | barilko6
ID: 180102816 Fri, Feb 08, 2008, 15:47
|
Edit...
Checking over old notes, the Zero Games rule was intended to eliminate the "must not be in the database" rule.
So...A Farmer must have 0 games, but CAN be in the database.
|
53 | ChicagoTRS
ID: 4110481415 Fri, Feb 08, 2008, 16:52
|
If the farmer is in the DB I think he needs to be added to the roster...maybe a rule like...as soon as someone posts a public message that the farmer is in the DB you have 5 days to add the player to your roster. That way you do not need to constantly need to check...but if someone notices an added player they can post the message and force you to claim or release.

|
55 | barilko6
ID: 180102816 Fri, Feb 08, 2008, 23:12

He wasn't on your roster at season's end. All farmers had to have been placed on your roster within 5 days of their addition to the Yahoo Database.
So since Kennedy was called up, and wasn't on your roster at season's end, you lost his rights.
RE: 53 That is a good idea. That would prevent other managers from adding him to their teams

found in last year's discussion And last year we decided in the league posts that keeper eligible players aren't allowed to be traded for draft picks.

I don't think there is anything stopping you from trading keeper eligible players... but not when draft picks are included (selling them off for picks).
The reason I say the first part is say me and Barilko agree to swap Tulowitzki and Markkakis... we could agree to trade them now and execute it when the season actually starts. So there is no reason to block it now and just delay it from happening.
I think the intent of the other part is so people aren't selling off their players for picks.

74 | ChicagoTRS

You cannot trade keeper eligbles now...as to qualify as a keeper the player needs to be on your end of season roster. You can keep one player and then trade the player when the season starts.
Wiggs...did you roster LaRoche last year when he got called up and leave him on your roster for the remainder of the season?

RE: 70, 74
LaRoche was not on your final roster. All of the players that you listed were on their manager's respective rosters.
The rules stated that any farmers that were added to the database had to be added to the roster when they were called up.
I think we actually talked about LaRoche last year and you chose not to add him.

I just emailed GF...
I am working on rule edits now...
I like the idea of lets get everything ready by the 15th...declare keepers...set draft order...etc...and we can unofficially start the draft the 15th...and then officially start the clock on the 18th.

If there is more than one new team, TRS should just flip a coin or something to see which squad they are taking over. How did we figure it out last year?

I know last year we allowed newbies to inherit teams...but I kind of think newbies should have to draft fresh...no keeper.

Sorry Gentlemen for the late notice but with the girls starting to do after school activates sports and etc. I would like to limit my teams to just 4 this year. I feel if I go over that I just wouldn’t put the time and effort to be a completive manager. It looks like you have a few other managers that would like to jump in. Thanks for the last few years of fun, best of luck to all.

So we need a manager...anyone want to nominate anyone. I am not sure about "coke_for_the_drink" as the post in this thread is the first they have made on the site. Not even sure if the person is checking this thread...if you are please post a little about yourself and your fantasy experience.
I am going to post a thread on the main baseball page looking for one manager.

Excited to finally be a part of the league. I hope that I can make a bigger splash here than I did in G20!

Well at least here its primarily a re-draft league and you aren't stuck with a 5-6 depleted keepers like G20.

I think we have a 13th manager...he is just making sure he wants to commit but it seems likely. He is a longtime gurupie so I see no issues with him joining us. Would be glad to have him aboard...

I would like to apply. If I should ever be fortunate enuf to screw someone in a trade I will trust the trade calculator. I guess.
Looks like an extremely strong league. Weak leagues are no fun.

fwiw: coke_for_the_drink was a friend of mine, would have played for sure but just wasn't aware if there were any spots. Np though, plenty of leagues out there.
