0 Subject: Puget Sound Fantasy League - H2H, AL-only - 2008

- Leader [057721710] Sun, Mar 09, 2008, 19:14

The draft room at Kafenatid is up and running. The 6-hour clock will be turned on at 8am Puget Sound time tomorrow (Monday 3/10). The draft order is as follows -

1. Kokeshis
2. Three and Out
3. AL Hammers
4. mjd
5. Greggo Romans
6. Tosh (Islanders)
7. philflyboy
8. Taxman
9. SANFORDERS
10. Mudville 9

Thanks to Guru for unknowingly letting me plagarize this draft summary -

We will once again use a 6 hour clock. The clock will pause between 1am and 8am ET. I know that the pause times extend late for easterners and end early for westerners, but with a 6 hour pause, this still provides a 12 hour window for any pick which extends through the pause period, which should be ample.

If you time out, the draft will move on. Skipped picks can be made up at any time thereafter. If your turn arises and you still have an outstanding skipped pick, I will probably move the draft on to the next picker. If we get well ahead of pace, I may relax that stance. But hopefully it will not become an issue. This also means that people on the turn have a single clock period to make their first pick, or both picks will be skipped.

Although the clock will be set at 6 hours, we cannot make satisfactory progress if many managers use much of that allowance. We need to average about 1.5 rounds per day, so please do your best to keep up the pace. If we fall behind, managers who are chronically slow may be put on an shorter clock.

We will use this thread for logistical communications, to help others anticipate potential delays, to recruit someone to accept a queue, to announce or solicit trades, to coordinate changes in the clock for weekends, etc. Please check this thread regularly throughout the draft, as we will rely on it as the primary means of communication among PSFL managers.

Established draft etiquette is that no undrafted player names should be mentioned.

You may draft a player even if he is not currently listed on Yahoo. In that event, you will have the first rights to claim that player when he is listed, as long as you preserve that roster slot for him.

Once the draft is completed, you will no longer be able to protect a slot for any unlisted player. At that point, unlisted players will only be available through the standard Yahoo waiver/free agent process.

When you select a player, please list him at the position that you primarily expect to use him. Of course, these positions are not binding, and are only indicative of your anticipated usage. Yahoo position eligibilities will be used throughout the season.

The draft software allows you to set up a queue, and to make that queue available to any other manager who you authorize as a designated picker. Be aware that, as commish, I am automatically authorized as a DP for everyone. Your queue will not be visible to your DPs until it is your turn to pick, and you may specify whether the entire queue should be visible, or only the top name. However, if you do not make your queue "available", then no one will be able to see it when it is your turn. If you want your queue to be used, then please be sure that you have it set as available. If you do not want your queue used, then be sure to make it unavailable. If it is your turn and a queue is available to me, I will make that pick for you unless you have posted explicit instructions to the contrary in this thread.

In order to keep the draft moving at an acceptable pace, please make active use of queues if you expect to be unavailable when it is your turn. Last year's draft went very smoothly due primarily to the active use of queues.

The draft will last for 23 rounds. You are not required to draft a player for every position.

Last season, I made a Commish decree that Roger Clemens was unavailable as a draftee, because he was not on any AL-rosters.

I am relaxing that this season ... you can draft anyone, as long as they are not on an NL-roster. You will be assigned a placeholder on your roster until this draftee is added to the player database.

A reminder ... players traded to the NL DO NOT accumulate stats on your team. Plan for this scenario when drafting.

Game on and Good luck!!

I'd hate to skip AL Hammers on his first round pick, especially since the three managers right behind him are set to go. My admin privileges show me his queue is available, but empty.

I've sent him an email. I want to go slow, since a Round 1 pick is pretty important. But we're already starting late.

Thoughts on what to do if he times out?

I'll wait a bit.

Really didn't like that 3rd slot. I saw the Arod pick this morning and left Cabrera in my Q figuring I didnt know what the hell I was gonna do if he didnt make it there. Anyway, thanks for waiting guys. I'll be around, my other drafts are about finished.

MJD you the man, sorry if I took your guy but I bet I didn't

Greggo is on his way to his computer right now to make his pick. For some reason, he thought Ortiz would last until him. :)

JH - I'm just glad you didn't have Gustavo Chacin #1 in your queue. ;)

I wish Brian Roberts wasn't a DP pick for me to make. I gave Jackhammers 21 minutes once his clock started, then I pulled the trigger.

I hope it works out for him!

Wow. You didn't pick Guillen yourself? I just assumed you did, because I didn't. It was a couple hours after Gute's 3.02. I didn't see any mention of a queue for round 4, so I went ahead and picked to move things along.

Since Gute hasn't picked yet, I see no real harm in me trying to remove Roberts from your team, and you picking someone else.

Want me to try and do it? We should do it before Gute picks though ...

No Tosh, i don't want to make those kind of waves, I'm fine with it.

I did pick Guillen from work, from my Q, he was still at the top and the guy I wanted. I guess I didn't figure I'd get 3 picks today.

I've got another pick coming when it turns the corner anyway and I may well have picked him with that one. I'm good.

So when Taxman's turn came up for pick 8.03, the #1 guy in his queue was the same as my #1. I decided to wait a few minutes before I picked it ... to see if he changed his mind.

So thanks Taxman for changing your mind! :-)

I have entered all the picks made thus far into Yahoo. So now you can do a player search for "all available players", and the drafted players have been removed. That's a nice feature.

Please ocassionally check your team to make sure I entered them correctly.

You CANNOT view your team via the "My Team" link. You have to go to "Draft Central", then look at "Draft Results".

We've hit a few roadblocks the last 24 hours, but we are still on target to finish the draft on 03/20 at 02:02:08 am. We are averaging a pick every one hour and 2 minutes.

I made a queue on Sunday night of 37 players I would accept being on my team. I am down to 13. I wonder if the list will hold out.

IF - Someone wants to draft an unlisted 'Free Agent', pick some ultra-random player that we won't be drafting to use as a placeholder. Then make the announcement here about what player it is.

Not until I get to select my undrafted super-secret megastar. :-)

We're almost done. I will input the rest of the players into Yahoo, check for accuracy, then activate the league ... probably tomorrow evening.

Then we can go after those free agents.

I have entered all the players onto the teams. Please check them, and let me know if there are any issues. I will activate the league tomorrow night, and there will be a 2-day waiver period.

I had to use one placeholder.

Casey Janssen is the placeholder for Bartolo Colon (AL Hammers)

This whole time, I was not planning on counting the Japan games. I have now discovered that skipping those games IS NOT EVEN AN OPTION, and week 1 runs March 24-April 6. I apologize if someone made a draft selection based on the Japan games not counting. I'm glad we made good time.

Thanks to everyone for a good draft. I really like Kafenatid.

We're not a very chatty group are we? This was the very last thread on page one, so it deserves a bump.

After five weeks, the only three actual Puget Sounders lead the PSFL. Life just seems right. ;-)

With Posada going down, I could use a catcher. So if someone is hoarding them, feel free to give me a shout.
