Question, what happens if/when a team has a player(s) on the DL and they come off thereby creating too many active players? Does the manager/commish inactivate someone who is not on the DL or what?

I think nerf normally sends you an email letting you know you need to drop someone or do some lineup changes.
3rd day into the season and i finally get my first homerun! haha... watch out guys, im coming!

You can have 30 active and 2 on the DL at any time, but Yahoo wont let you make any moves if you have an un-injured player in a DL slot.

What Nerf states is what I remember from last year. What I'm asking is what is the solution if someone comes off the DL and there is no place on the active roster for them? Do you "release" the player but not "release" the player so you can make adjustments to your roster? Meaning if someone else gets hurt again, you can bring that player back. Or, is there some other preferred way to handle thos situations should they arise?

I thought from previous seasons, if you have someone on the DL slot on your roster, and then in real life they come off the DL, you have to put them back on your normal roster. If you have put in a FA claim and then in effect would have 31 players on your roster. If you have no one else who is elegible for the DL, you have to drop someone altogether. Or maybe make a 2-1 trade.
I could be wrong, but thats how i understand it.

The way it works is that you can essentially have 32 players on your roster, with 2 being on the DL. If you have 32 players and one player comes off the DL with no one to replace him, someone has to be dropped.

I know its only 1 week gone, but im up in second and Doug's down in last. What a turnaround. Could become pretty interesting if things were to stay that way over the whole season.

The weekly/monthly standings are up in the air. I used to do them at work during break but Yahoo fantasy is blocked here now. I have to transfer all the files to home and see if my macros will work with an older version of Excel. I do at least have week 1 saved.

It was a tricky thing to figure out when we made the move from TQsports back to Yahoo. 9 of the stats are pretty straight-forward but the one I have all of these macros set up for is OBP. Because Yahoo only tracks at bats and not plate appearances, I have a macro that will calculate plate appearances based on hits, at bats, and OBP. One whole entire excel spreadsheet dedicated to calculating plate appearances.

Also - I am looking for a servicable MI and CI (mainly a 2B or any CI), I am making Pence, Millege or Ankiel available. Ankiel and Millege both have very low salaries.

Rookie needs some help!
1.If I drop Joaquin Benoit and pick up Jonathan Sanchez from prospect list. What my cost?
2.If I drop Willy Taveras and pick up Carlos Quentin from prospect list. What is my cost?
3.Do I have enough room to make both moves?
4.Is it to early to make moves? Save till later if someone gets hurt?

Adding a player from your prospect pool or from free agency is always going to cost however many years you want to sign them for - The same as a drafted player. The cost to release a player is (money owed player)/(years left on contract)* 1.5. A 1-year player at $1 is going to cost $1.5 to release.

To start off a discussion about prospects and retirees, here's an email I got from clv:
"Actually I was thinking more along the lines of "relaxing" the number of prospects a team could own during the season - say from 10 up to 15. This would allow for more active trading. Of course, with so many teams right at the cap, it's still going to be tough to trade.
It would make it more lucrative for the team that might be "out of it" to accept a trade of someone with a similar salary IF they also received a prospect or two without having to drop a prospect they already own. It would buy them the rest of the minor league season to evaluate those players - then, when contracts are due those teams with more than 10 have to pick their best (or favorite) 10 to keep if they aren't promoting several of them.
MLB "prospect" rules state that players are no longer eligible for Rookie Of The Year consideration if they have more than 130 ABs, 50 IPs, or 45 days on the MLB roster. Those numbers are roughly 1/4 of a full season.
I'm currently sitting on Justin Upton (375 career ABs), Evan Longoria (226 ABs), and Jarrod Saltalamacchia (408 ABs) who I would have had to either promoted, traded, or released into the free-agent pool by now in every other league I participate in, and those numbers are seriously "dwarfed" by the numbers on several other teams' prospect rosters.
The point is, this league is structured in such a way that it actually leads to LESS in-season competition - owners don't want to promote their prospects and sign them to risky long-term deals, but they won't trade them, thus making those players worthless. Many owners have signed aging veterans (myself included, see Smoltz) to expensive longer-term deals in the hope that they'll get one or two productive years from them and then get out from under the contract before it gets expensive (leading to the situation we have now). The
salary structure is simply too constrictive - extending players you have owned for more than 1-2 years is astronomically high, so you gamble and sign players to long-term contracts and watch them "flame-out", crippling your team in the process (myself included, see Carlos Beltran)."

I like this idea alot. I think it also helps as the MLB draft is midseason aswell. So it will allow you to add prospects from the draft without dropping someone, then at the end of the season you can better evaluate.
But i think for MLB draft players, maybe you can only put in 1 claim at a time?
Also maybe not have it set at 15 at all times, but you must have minimum of 10, and no more than 15 at any one time?

I can't say that I like the idea of having more than 10 prospects. That is plenty to be able to evaluate a trade and determine if there is a player you'd be willing to lose. The original idea was to have a 40-man roster, just like in MLB, and I would like to keep this concept.
However, I do tend to agree with a max cap on how long a prospect may stay a prospect. Putting a cap, say 2 years' worth of service, will help weed out some of those 'old' prospects. It is typical for those types of players to be dropped anyways once it is realized that they are marginal MLB players. I would say something like 750 AB and 300 IP. When a prospect reaches these milestones, the manager would have to call up the player by the next callup date (before the draft) or lose the player.
My stance on retirees is status quo since so many teams have salary structures based on anticipated retiring. However, we can do something more to define what a retired player is.
Something like: Any player under contract in this league who is not under contract by MLB or any of its afilliates for a period of 8 months or more (including offseason) may be considered retired for purposes of a free drop from this league.
That would catch just about all the Clemens/Bonds players, and also the instance where I was allowed to drop a player who went to Japan in his second year.
But also if it becomes obvious a player will not return in the requisite 8 months, for example like signing with a Japanese team or announcing retirement, he is also considered retired.
These are things I can bring up for our next round of voting in the offseason.

I can see your point on the 10 prospects. The only problem i have though, is even with rotowire, the updates on prospects just isnt enough. There are ones where you get sporadic updates, but you cant always even see their stats at all.
