Sucks yahoo took forever to add Cueto. He is pitching a hell of a game today. Figures just my luck.
Cueto: 1 hit, 10k's through 7

That does suck JT. How about the fact that my players can't hit worth right now. I know it's early, but I thought I'd have more than 10 RBI. I guess this is what I get for spending all my $$ on starters.
JT, with 3 solid closers and the likes of King Felix, Beckett and Kazmir (once they are all healthy) I think I have some pitching to trade. The way Felix is starting out, he may be priced right for a contract extension, too. I'm looking at your team to see what I can come up. Take a look at mine and see what you can find.
Week #3 of FAAB has been completed and what a buzy week it was.

If anyone wants CC Sabathia I will trade him for ANY closer no matter how crappy they are. He has been total crap this year so if anyone wants him send me an offer for anyone who is a full time closer and he is yours.
What do you guys think? I like typing stuff up about the league. Might be pointless, but adds a little bit to the league id say :)

JT - You miss-quoted me. Here it is "CC is a fine pitcher but he was absolutely killing the pre-game buffets before every game in the clubhouse and was causing a rift on the team and costing the club entirely too much. CC also started a brawl with catcher Russ Martin when going over the signs pre-game, CC insisted #1 was a Double Quater Pounder meal and #3 was the Double Wopper. Also CC sucker punced first baseman Conor Jackson when he would not Leggo hus Eggo."
lol, sorry for the mis-quote. I edited it on the site

Actually I don't like McGowan out of the bullpen. He's doing just fine as a starter. With the addition of Sabathia I think an 8-man rotation is going work out just fine. My guys should all have plenty of rest and if need be, our end of the rotation guys like Guthrie and Wakefield and skip some tougher match ups.
With that said, I'm certainly not opposed to trading any of my pitchers. All are pretty reasonably priced and have contracts that allow for decent 2 year extensions. If you are in the market for top of the line pitching Khahan's K-zone is the place to be.

Lots of PFAL questions:
1. My contracts page takes me to an undeveloped page. Is it just not built, or not linked correctly?
2. If I keep a guy drafted at $5 for 5 years, do his contracts go 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or is it 30 for all 5 years?
3. Can I trade a Minor Leaguer for a major leaguer?
4. If I trade a minor leaguer, or if I call one up from my minor league roster do I get to draft a new minor leaguer?
17

I think I can answer one and give my insight on the others.
1. Mine doesn't work either, and I think that has to do with the fact that there are no contracts offered. Every player has a one year contract for their auction price. Or $5 if they were a FA pickup.
2. That's what I believe.
3. I don't see anything in the rules against it. But I would assume that you would have to bring up the minor leaguer you trade for immediately and that both sides would have to drop a major leaguer.
4. I hope that we will do another draft for minor leaguers to fill the spots that we lose to call ups.
1. Contracts pages are not working because I haven't finished them yet. (Yeah I have been slacking i know). I am keeping track of them in an excel sheet though.
2. It goes up $5 each year. for 5 year deal it would be 10,15,20,25,30
3. Yes, you can trade a Minor Leaguer for a Major leaguer. The person receiving the Minor leaguer would have to either
(A) Drop a Minor leaguer player because you cannot have more than 4 on your team. or (B) Call Up a Minor Leaguer to replace the Major league player he traded.
4. Every year during the off-season after the Free Agent draft there will be a minor leaguer draft to ensure everyone has 4 minor leaguers on their roster again.
Just a quick note because this rule was confused before.
Delmon Young was dropped today and since that is the first notable player that was dropped I figured I would explain the waivers rule again.
Everyone that is dropped is on waivers for 2 days.
So right now instead of waiting till next Wednesday to pick up Young you can put in a bid on him and if you are the highest bidder you will be awarded him on Friday.
When a player is pick up from waivers his contract value is the same as when he was dropped. So in this instance if you bid on Young during the waiver period and win him his contract still stays at $9.

damn i was hoping no one would notice...
One flaw with this policy i believe which I was thinking of exploiting at some point but it may be best to think of ahead of time:
Say a stud been underperming this year and it is clear they will not not be kept next year at there auction price. This player suffers a season ending injury and is sent to waivers. No one picks off waivers because out for season and overpriced. Now he is a free agent someone bids an exorbant amount for him so that they can have him on there team the next year for $5 and have quite the steal. Do we want to allow tis scenario?
And I didn't mean to go against you there by announcing Young, but I just wanted everyone to be aware of the rule.
24

ID: 1733917 Wed, Apr 16, 2008, 14:10
well I was more referring to a player who will be out for the season so you would ahve no reason not to drop the player. But I am fine with the situation existing.
And i think the young announcement was fine as the rules are pretty confusing. How was initial waiver priority established?
If Albert Pujols is out for the season I dont think you will drop him and risk the chance that someone will pick him up. You will just deal with it and stick him on your bench.
If anyone wants Jimmy Rollins I will trade him for a power hitter.

I was reviewing everyone's contracts today and there are a lot of $1 steals that were had early on, just these players alone would make a fairly mean team:
Joe Crede Casey Kotchman Andre Ethier Johnny Cueto Aaron Hill Brian Bannister Mark Reynolds Bengie Molina Xavier Nady Nate McLouth Erick Aybar Justin Upton Tadahito Iguchi A.J. Pierzynski Jason Kubel Josh Bard Mark Ellis Jason Bartlett Melky Cabrera

Ok just to clarify on the WW picks: Lets say I have the high bid for delmon young at $3. His contract stays at $9 but I only lose $3 from my FAAB correct?
Now lets say I have the high bid of $35. His contract still stays at $9 (even though I 'offered him' more) but I lose $35 FAAB?
Do I got it? Even over bidding his current contract doesn't change it?
His contract will stay at $9, but only if you bid on him during the waiver period. So if you want to do that now just when you send your bid in for Young just put somewhere in there that it is a waiver claim.
If he clears waivers and someone picks him up when add drops are processed next week his contract will be $5.

9.02 of the official rules definitely say differently.
However rereading the threads I do see where we say we are bidding on the waiver players. However in Post 37 of the PFAL discussion thread it says they are on waivers until the next acquisition period not 2 days and this is again repeated in post 39 and post 57.
The post in this thread was the first reference to a two day period for bidding I could find

Just to stem the flow of trade offers I get each week:
My closers are not for trade. I only have 2 and am not going to work with only 1. So no offers in which I give up a closer will be considered.
My SP really are not for trade either. We get 9 pitcher slots and I carry 9 pitchers. Sorry, I'm not trading away pitching unless I get pitching back (I'm actually only running 8 pitchers because homer bailey is on my active roster so if I trade away even 1 pitcher I'm really shorting myself).
I am still looking to trade. I am not trying to discourage offers. But I also don't want you to waste a lot of energy on a solid offer (like the one jose ole ole sent me, I really did like it) that I cannot accept.

This is an off topic post for the league but is concerning another league I am in where I suspect collusion between 2 managers but to be sure I wanted to get some independent input if I could.
Here is what has happened over the last 7 days.
First, Team A trades Team B - Connor Jackson for Prince Fielder. Not too lopsided considering how poorly Prince has started out. But then yesterday Team B drops Connor Jackson.
Then today the same 2 teams make another trade. Team A gives up: Alex Gordon, Stephen Drew and Brad Lidge to Team B for Vlad Guerrero and Shawn Marcum and drops Brain Fuentes.
Am I being paranoid or does it seem like the 2 are in cahoots?
124
Khahan
ID: 46121614 Thu, May 29, 2008, 09:50
The first part with a straight up trade of fielder (underproducing star who is expected to break out and start hitting soon) for Conor Jackson (playing over his head and is expected to cool down to his historical levels soon) and then dropping Conor within a few days is awfully fishy.
Couple things to look at: What is the wiaver priority of each team? Is the team that traded away C Jackson likely to get him back?
What is the experience level of each manager? Is one of them a very new manager and just simply getting fleeced?
There is a lot to review before calling collusion, but I'd be very suspicious and would at least email the commish my concerns.

At first I was wondering why you dropped Young last time. I was like huh?
Then I figured he would go high. I thought 20 would be the bid thats why i bid 21.
Also I feel the reason you dropped him was to get his contract for $5 now. This is a flaw in the system and we need to correct this next season.
Maybe something to the effect that if you drop a player and add him again during the season (maybe a month?) his contract value stays the same.

And we have some trade activity. Finally somebody responded! Ok, it was me that responded. Decided to take the plunge here. I wasnt thrilled about moving Beckett, but this was a classic, "Its the best thing for the team." Thanks JT. I finally get that other MI AND strengthen my bullpen. Can pick up some points in saves possibly. And improve my catcher contract for next season if I so desire.
I thought it worked out well for both. I went the stud hitter route in the draft and my pitching staff is terrible because of it. Need to try to gain some points here maybe. If not then build for the future. I like Beckett at the top of my roster.
WG your bid for Clement was invalid. He is on someones minor league roster.

Serb, could we see the winning bid for Marte?
Also, I had 3 players bid on. I can't double check who they were now (can't access email from work) but I'm pretty sure only Marte from my list was posted. Any reason my other 2 guys aren't there?

Ok, got home to double check and found the email I sent you on July 5. I had bids for Akinori Iwamura and Todd Wellmeyer, both of which are still on the FA list, so I assume I am winning them.
Also, since my email was missed, I think my bid for Marte should be weighed against whoever won him. If I'm higher, I think he should be mine.
I'm sure its tough. There are probably a ton of emails from this league alone, not to mention any other leagues you are in. Thanks for shouldering the burden.
Why didn't you bring it up before Toral? Are you sure I didn't receive it? or is it possible that you just didn't win any of the bids? I know I have had Carroll for a while now.
Hey guys, finally got all set up in the new place. Have to get to work now. Will get caught up with everything tomorrow and proccess waivers.
Thanks for the patience

Wow I really overbid on Chris Perez ($11). But still somehow I'm not in there? This is like the 4th time this year.
When I submit bids I go to the league page and click 'email league.' From there, I click JTSerbs name and my name (to send a copy to myself). I then send the message and usually put something in the subject line along the lines of "PFAL weekly bidding for ....."
Is the address you use in yahoo not correct? I don't type it in myself. Is there a different address you'd prefer to use?
When I get home from work, I'll get the email from my inbox. I know this is happening a lot. Something isn't working or communicating properly between our accounts. Gotta get this fixed.

Hey Khahan,
My Default Yahoo email is the same. It has to be a problem with yahoo's messaging system. I would just email me directly from your mailing client.

Alright. I'll start trying my weekly bids with a direct email.
As for Perez this week, even to myself I have to say, "Enough is Enough," and just go on the bids you actually received. Each time this has happened another manager's team got jerked around.
I'll start my next bid with a direct email and if that doesn't work, I'll just pull a Lawnmower Man, come thru the wires and strangle your email account!!!! ;)
Rollins for HR - I will Rollins for a top HR hitter.

I got a new computer and when I was transfering files over I couldn't find my paid list. I know that I received WG's check recently, but I believe there was still 1 owner that didn't pay. Anyone want to own up to not paying? :)
Good look to DB looks like you have it wrapped up this season barring any sort of miracle by WG.

Even tho I was the one who just benefitted i think we need to rethink this rule here u can pick up injured studs dropped by there team for $5 the next year
If you know a player is out for the year you are not going to keep him at his price then you need to be able to drop the player without having another player get him for $5. What if the player is on the last year of his contract so there is no chance of keeping him? What if the player is Arod.
I think this offseason we need to think of a rule change to fix this going forward.
For some reason I can't access the website and I don't have the google docs link for the rules. I hope someone has a copy? I forgot what the payouts were...

Why do we need a rule to determine strategy? I have Carlos Lee on my team. I could drop him to make roster space now and suffer the consequences of releasing him or I could let him take up a roster spot and not declare him as a keeper so he goes into the draft pool next year.
Its the owners choice of which way he wants to go. Rules should only be used sparingly to prevent abuse. There is no abuse in the case of dropping an injured player. There is only strategy. Injuries and the risk of injuries are a part of the game. By taking any player to a long term deal (heck just drafting somebody out of the draft pool to a 1 year deal) opens us up to dealing with him getting injured. If its A-rod that gets hurt and his owner drops him then that owner made a choice to not keep him and some lucky bidder will be very happy.

181 Hope someone does but I dont myself. Almost positive 4th was 10% though.
182 If that is the consensus fine. i just dont like how you have to keep a player on your roster that you have no intention of keeping for fear of another player getting him for $5. Id be in favor of a rule saying his salary goes down $5 a week but I guess whatever the consensus is works.
Wish more people would check this thread and the league. Interest has seemed pretty low this year. hopefully it picks up when it comes time to draft.

Why? If you aren't keeping him then what do you care how much another manager will get him for?
As I remember it...When a player is dropped he goes on waivers for two days. If he is bid on the winning bid gets him at his current salary. If he is a "Stud" will everyone pass and hope to get him as a $5.00 free agent? I doubt it. Even if that is the case he may blow his FA budget in acquiring him. It may be worth it though as he could be extended for several years. You pays your money and you makes your choice.

well i mean dont doubt it, it happened with eric bedard and chris young. not top 20 guys but not that far off.
But obviously their is strategy to it and it is fair to everyone so if people are ok with the way it is now then we can keep it
yea i sort of forgot that anyone else could pick up bedard and keep him for $5 next year. even if i remembered it, i likely would have dropped him anyway. i was/still am making a run at the top spot, already had an empty slot waiting for david price to get called up, and had no intention of retaining bedard at his current salary. i guess i got lucky with the rule as well, as i picked up brett myers shortly before he reverted back to his old form, so i cant complain too much.
1st DB - $260.00 2nd WG - $130.00 3rd Ksoze - $78.00 4th DPR - $52.00
If you won money email me at JTSERB@gmail.com
I will send payment through paypal or snail mail. Please include your preference.
Someone still owes dues, but I lost my list when I merged a new over to new computer. If that person wants to step up that would be a nice gesture ;) If not oh well, I will pay it out.

Hey JT
Didn't you post in the original discussion thread whenever somebody paid? If I get some time this afternoon I'll go back and try to cross reference those and see if we can't figure out who has paid.

I went and did that briefly and only saw like 6 confirmations so I dont think he made a point of doing it for all payments. Or maybe it was spread out to more threads
