Subject: Insurance Hell Keeper League 2009 Discussion

Hey all,
We're back for season 4 (or is it 5, it can't be that long can it?). Its definitely been fun so far and I'm looking forward to 2009.
Please post your keepers here by Tuesday Feb 10. We'll use the clock on the site. If it hits 11:59pm, you are safe. At 12:00 am the commish assigns keepers.
At the end of last season there were a number of suggestions for change going around. Everything from cutting the number of keepers down, to starting over w/ a brand new draft to letting the league decide to force each manager to throw 1 keeper back into the pool.
There was mild interest in each of those suggestions and more. But when I asked for a vote, I got pretty much dead silence. So this is what we're gonna do. Keep the status quo unless somebody else puts up a suggestion. If you want to see change, post it. If it helps the league I will gladly put it up for a vote. :)
Good luck and get those keepers posted. |

Players for trade. Most likely only looking for picks.
2008 NL RoY - Geovany Soto 2008 AL Cy Young - Cliff Lee 2009 AL RoY - David Price!!! And more many allstar caliber players are available: Alex Rodriguez, Grady Sizemore, Manny Ramirez, Jose Reyes, Felix Hernandez.
Brandon Phillips, Carlos Pena, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Ervin Santana, Ryan Dempster, Ryan Ludwick.
Basically anybody from my roster is up for grabs for draft picks.

Bobby Abreu Alex Gordon Adam Jones Alex Rios Brian Roberts Rickie Weeks Matt Cain Scott Kazmir
Just to name a few

Wiggs, you do not have Kazmir on your roster. You DID request to pick him up off waivers and you DID get the waiver request. However, it processed on the last day of the season meaning he could not actually be added until after the season ended. He is in the FA pool.
I go by the rosters as they show on the final day of the season.

are you sure about that? I could have sworn i had him before the rosters froze the last day? is there a way to see that?

Wiggs, yes, there is a way to see it. If you go to the league page from last year (you can access it from your league page), you'll see the request process on the last day. But that means he does not make it to your roster until the next day (which is too late).
Or you can also look at your 'final roster' from your history and see. I simply did a copy/paste from there.

CV's NC Braves trade Vladimir Gurrero, Billy Wagner, and their 6th Round pick to AllTax for Chipper Jones, Jonathon Broxton, and their 1st Round pick.
(Not sure of the date, but noted it on my spreadsheet. Wagner's on your final roster, so I assume you moved Vlad for someone else at some point following our trade.)

Taking a look at last year's league I cannot see league transactions anymore so we'll have to recostruct:
Taxman drafted Chipper Jones in round 8. Taxman drafted Jonathon Broxton in round 16
CLV had Vlad in round 3 meaning he was a keeper. CLV drafted Billy Wagner in round 7
Broxton and Jones appear on CLV's final day roster.
Billy Wagner is on Taxman's final day roster
Vlad Guerrero is on Captain Cocko's final day roster. Cocko and Taxman traded Joe Nathan for Vlad straight up. Joe Nathan is still on TAxman's final roster
End of story: CLV and Tax did trade vlad/wagner for Broxton/Jones. That would have been done thru the Yahoo system and the rosters support this.
As for the draft picks, post 85 has CLV postig the trade w/ picks but does not have Taxman confirming it.
However there was one other manager who came to me mentioning that he had a trade w/ clv involving a draft pick but that he only found out about the draft pick after the fact. CLV, whenever you are making trades involving picks you MUST email the manager before he accepts the offer. After the offer has been accepted, then forward that original email to the other manager to me. This goes for everybody. From here on out, if the proper documentation is not there, draft pick swaps will not stand. Simply emailing me the message you sent to the other manager will support your case.
It has been noted many times before that Yahoo's trade feature does not always transmit notes/messages about a trade.
As for the draft picks involved, I will have to investigate further. There IS only 1-sided confirmation. I don't want to leave a loophole for people to make trades and get out of picks by simply not posting. But I also don't want to leave a loophole for people to gain picks by abuse (and I do NOT believe this was intentional) of a poor Yahoo trade system.

Yo boyz. If anyone is interested in making a trade, throw me an offer and not a bone. Since this aint really "MY" team, I obviously will need a year or two to make the team I like. I am up for listening to anything. As of right now, I really don't see me doing much cause I am confused looking at these messages. One team has 6 keepers and 4 first round picks. Hmmm. Don't take it personal, I am just trying to understand. Maybe now that I am officially involved, I will get the hang of it. Well, enough of this cyber crap, time for a beer and some felatio. Later.

I have no recollection as to including my first draft pick in the trade :
vlad/wagner for Broxton/Jones
Think about it. At the time, Jones was lights out hitting and Vlad was not hitting for power/RBI's or avg. Wabner was old and injury prone at the time. Please send me/post some proof/indication that I conceeded a 1st round pick in that trade.

I found the following on last years season thread posted by CLV:
AllTax-CV's NC Braves trade...
Braves receive Chipper Jones, Jonathon Broxton, and AllTax' 2009 1st Round pick
AllTax receives Vladimir Gurrero, Billy Wagner, and CV's NC Braves' 2009 6th Round pick.
There is no concurring post by me wherein I agreed to exchange of draft picks. Hopefully CLV has a kept copy of trade e-mails between us. I have no trade e-mails between us.
Thus I contest the trade of draft picks until I can see something that supports the draft pick swap.

All I can tell you is that I posted it on the thread when it was agreed to and made note of it on my spreadsheet (just as with all trades). If it's that big an issue, feel free to replace me and let him have his pick that the new manager should have received. Take your pick and consider it everytime you deal with someone else in the future - "buyer's remorse" is a serious illness and shouldn't be taken lightly.
(Sorry, I don't keep fantasy baseball trade e-mails archived. Didn't realize this was serious enough business for Congressional inquiry.)

I will say sometimes there are issues with Yahoo- I know i sent out a bunch of football trades this year asking for picks from teams that were in contention this season- I think 1 was like Ward and his 2nd for someone (mendenhall) or someone. The guy accepted on yahoo but then when I posted on the roto thread he was like- no there was no pick involved. We canceled the trade, but yahoo was the culprit. I hope that we can work this out without CLV leaving- he is definitely an asset to the league.

Dear "Sketchy"..don't need your attitude.
Never said trade didn't occur as you report. Did state I can't find confirmation of picks included. Been doing keeper leagues a long time and have always shied away from trades involving future picks that compromise my future. 1st pick is a huge compromise. That's what started me searching for the non existant confirmation. Glad it's in your notes because otherwise no one would know about it.
btw...Did you work in the recent Bush administration?
My question was asked pleasantly w/o attitude because: 1) I have no e-mails about this trade in the 19 saved for this league dating back to Jan 2008; 2) a concurring post in appropriate Guru thread by both managers is SOP in every Guru based fantasy league I've participated in for last dozen years or so; 3) No notice of the draft picks traded sent to commissioner (if not a requirement, certainly a necessity); 4) CLV's post last year re this trade made July 6, six days after Adam sent league wide e-mail stating:"I agree that changes need to be made. We need to go to 2 keepers and perhaps just stay there, but maybe go to 4 in the future" Such a rule change significantly alters the value of first round picks. 5)CLV posted other trades involving draft picks on July 2nd and 3rd, neither of which were confirmed. 6) Both trades reported in this (2009) thread have been confirmed.
I don't remember having my character called into question previously (for reference, I'll ask wiggs to pipe in about controversy between him and me this past football season in Poli Football). There is always an amicable settlement when it is sought by both parties. Not the case here. Demeaning remarks and taking my ball and going home serve no end in resolving honest questions.
I have no interest in continuing this dialogue or of returning insults and innuendos. Water seeks it's own level.
That said, let the trade stand as CLV claims.
... and let me take my ball and go home (whenever Greg has found a replacement). When something ceases to be fun, one should find something else to do. Greg...you can replace me now if that is an option, otherwise, please find a replacement before 2010 season. No I won't disappear or quit on you.
Each draft in this league has been keenly deficient of courtesies by some managers. The same rude and inconsiderate people consistantly run the clock (some will run all but ten minutes) dragging out each round beyond comprehension. With functional and easy to operate kafenatid.net queue and designated picker systems, draft disappearance indicates another courtesey besides lifting the toilet seat before you piss that you mother failed to teach.
I know and enjoy Greg and wiggs, otherwise, not so much. Thank you for all your work in this league Greg. You have been/are a top notch commishioner.

I sent a private email asking you guys to work it out and let me know the resolution. CLV, you chose to make resolving this a public matter and you chose to resorting to threats of leaving. Neither of which are things I appreciate.
If you're answer truly is, "He can have his way, but I quit over this even though I decided to make the decision," then please officially leave. I will find your replacement.
I've had similar situations in other leagues and the matter has always been resolved amicably between the 2 parties if they were just willing to sit back and talk.
But this is supposed to be for fun and we really don't need the drama. Work it out by Monday evening or I re-review everything and make my decision and then whoever wants to leave because they didn't get their way in life may go.

Thus I contest the trade of draft picks until I can see something that supports the draft pick swap."
That doesn't sound "personal" to anyone else? Sounded to me like my character was publicly questioned. "Provide e-mails you liar" is what I took from that.
As for being the whiner that took his ball and went home, I assumed that it would be better for a replacement to make his/her own decision about keepers and be able to draft from the beginning so the team was their "own" as much as possible.
"5)CLV posted other trades involving draft picks on July 2nd and 3rd, neither of which were confirmed."
No mention of the fact that neither of those trades have been contested? I haven't seen anyone ever mention that "Guru SOP" was law - sorry, but I always make sure I understand all trades before clicking "accept", regardless of what site the league runs on. You mean to tell me that you saved e-mails about this league from last January, accepted a trade involving Vlad/Wagner/Chipper/Broxton, proceeded to trade Vlad for someone else (that you also questioned), but maybe you should also get Broxton and Chipper back since you didn't follow SOP and confirm the trade? I haven't noticed either of those other managers calling me a liar. Maybe they want their picks back since they evidently ignored SOP as well?
I truly am sorry for the drama, and realize how childish all this sounds to everyone else, but I feel like my character has been questioned publicly ever since Tax initially questioned the trade over two weeks ago. The later response that day from Greg was that everything had "checked out", so I thought it was a non-issue. I was just as mad then, but felt it was better for all involved to simply bite my tongue and move on.
I have always enjoyed the league, particularly the trash-talk from the handful of you guys that actually know each other, and am only offering to leave to alleviate bad karma for everyone. The reason for this abrupt offer was so that the draft could be delayed a day or two to find a replacement for me. I'm more than willing to try to get beyond this and stay as long as needed. However, I will maintain that I do feel unfairly "singled out" - you didn't remember trading Vlad, why aren't you barking about that?

Can't someone just come up with some kind of compromise and we all just get along? It is a long season(hopefully full of trash talk) so let's try to resolve this so there is no hostility to start the season. Nobody should quit or leave the league over a misunderstanding. Let's just learn from this and keep better documentation of any kind of trade from here on out. Let's have a good season!

Tax, I'm sorry to see you go then. Especially in this manner. I'm sure we'll see each other in an RIBC league somewhere down the road or another league that pops up somewhere.
Now for the business side of things: There was some rumblings last year about the quality of the league as the talent pool was rather top heavy to the top 3-4 teams. Combine that with the fact that we've already had 2 delays to bring in 2 new managers and I have a proposal:
Contraction. We'll be an 11 team league. That will put more players back into the pool for the draft and for future drafts. Kind of solve 2 problems at once. We can move forward w/out further delay and get a player talent injection.

I'm on board with whatever the Evil Commish decides on. And in that case, I'm glad my team sucked last year!
Three cheers for the Evil Commish! Hip hip, MONKEY! Hip hip, MONKEY!!

Wow, I just read all this stuff after returning from my Florida vacation. If this is the kind of petty bickering over a league that is for fun only and involves no money, I really have to chuckle. Someone's pride was hurt, someone said this or shook on that. You all need to watch "Fiddler on a Roof" when you get a chance. Know it, learn it, live it! Let's just get on with the draft, I have no time for this foolishness. BTW spring training fever was infectious down south, wish I would have stayed long enough to attend a game, next year for sure.

Yo guys. Just want to give yall a heads up. I have limited access to a computer during the day between 6 AM and 3 PM. My company is looking to layoff people for anything right now. At least when it is my turn, I will have 2 in a row. I just hope that either Greg or Skip will call me and let me know when it is my turn. I have about 15-20 minutes during lunch and that is about it. I will do my best to make the draft go smoothly when it is my turn, but please don't get disgruntled when maybe I take forever, it's because I can't get to a computer without my bosses eyeballing me.

Draft is officially starting on Mon 3/9, correct?
I'm sure I'm missing it, but will someone re-post who the keepers are for Capt Cocko and Evil Empire? Thanks.

Guys, the league draft site is still down. Kafenatid gives you 3 rounds free, then you have to pay. I got the first 3 rounds of keepers inputted and sent in payment via paypal. It normally takes 24 hours to open up. Its now been 4 days. I've emailed the site admin to please fix it. However, I cannot continue entering keepers until it is fixed.

Hey, that sounds like someone who knows what the hell they are doing. Sorry, I aint used to that. If ya could though, list everyones keepers so at least when the things do get up and running, I and all of us are not going into it kinda blind by trying to figure out who is still available. Uh thank ya, thank ya very much.
