RotoAKI – Alternating Keeper Invitational

Hello to all possible candidates. For those who do not know me, my name is Matthew Necroto, and I've been the commissioner of the ROTOYAKL league founded here in 2000. The YAKL league has disbanded and I've started a new league. We already have 7 confirmed managers, including Guru regulars MJD, GolfFreak, Taxman, Wiggs, Y2JS, SO Proteins and myself. We are looking for at least 3 good competitive, never-quit style candidates.

I would like to start by saying that this design has been in the planning for a long time. I have asked Mike Dubiel (MJD) to assist me with the creation and management of this league.

I would like to think that our combined goal is to have a league that will always remain competitive, even for the players who have rough springs. We have devised this new structure with hopes that every manager would always stay competitive, as it will always be in their best interest to do so.

My second goal is to have the stat categories truly show the players value. We will not be using BA, HR or Wins. We will set this league up as a 6x6 league, stat categories for offense are OBP, SLGP, RBI, R, SB, and FLD%. Pitching would have to add a category and we decided that the Closers needed to take a little more responsibility, so we are adding Save Percentage, making pitching categories Quality Starts, Saves, K’s, ERA, WHIP, with S%.

My third goal was to have a league where it was a keeper league, but you still were allotted the opportunity for a redraft. This league will be set up as what I’m labeling, ‘Alternating Keeper’ structure. If someone else has already invented this and has a more catchy name, please let me know what it is, ‘cause I never know what to call it. The benefit of this is to have the player you fall in love with and be able to keep him, but still have the chance to mix it up. This also potentially gives everyone the chance to get that player they always wanted without having to mortgage the future.

Alternating Keepers means just that. We will have a four year ‘series’, each year have diminishing number of keepers until we redraft entire rosters. In year one, we draft a full squad, snake draft style. At the end of each season, the managers would earn ‘series points’ for their placement, first place gets 10 points and last place gets 1 point. Year two we keep 7, year three we keep 5, year four we keep 3, all drafting worst to first, non-snake. Year 5 we draft full rosters again, but in order of total series points acquired during that four year series. The manager who has the best four year span will be rewarded with top pick, and so on.

With this structure, we hope that managers will realize that placing 5th or 6th will be far better than 8th or 9th and maybe they will not give up so easily, thinking long term. This is put in place to keep all managers competitive all season long. Managers who continually fall to the bottom of the standings (injuries and incidentals being considered) or who are perceived as quitters or ‘giving up’ will be significantly frowned upon and a replacement may be voted on and sought out during the offseason. We won’t look for a replacement unless you give us reason to. Also, the manager who finishes last will be required to pay the Kafenatid fee the next draft.

If you are the type of manager who will remain competitive month after month and year after year, you are the manager we want applying. I would always want one of my leagues to be a manager’s league. All major issues will be voted on by the managers to be sure to get the best league possible.

If you are interested, email me letting me know your interested in one of the three final spots. If we don’t know you already, we would appreciate a little information about you and your fantasy history.
