My plan is to finish posting all the rosters over the weekend. On Sunday evening I will click on the 'start season' button or whatever it is called. I'll let everyone know via this thread when that was done. That wlll put all undrafter players into waivers for a few days. and I can reset the waiver order.

Also, then Kev can re-attempt to join the league and contact customer support if there are any issues.

Good luck everyone.

for anyone that is curious...the average time per pick for the entire draft was 1 hour 2 minutes...not bad in my estimation...

if ur curious how u did, just ask...i have it for every manager...kudos to Goldcoach for being the quickest...

now lets play some ball...

I didnt go off of projecgtions this year and kind of just drafted the players i thoguht would be good. As such I would be curious to see someone (bluehen?) who did go off projections post the standing that they predict for the year

Our league with Rotowire's projections (note: I used an adjusted version of this, so my own projections are a little different)...

Tosh, JeffG, blue hen, rogue9, jrdoolit, athleticsguy, roboguru, dlrussell, goldcoach, tequila, fosten, peterN, gurudan, kev, joe, khahan, in that order.

This does discount my team a bit, since I only have the 3 starters above plus Gallagher and Masterson. I'm currently 9th in k's and 15th in wins, and if I come near the innings limit, I'll finish my higher in each. I think I'm 2nd in k/9 ratio, for example.

That, along with incorrect projections, can change my list quickly, but I feel pretty good about it. Be nice to have Mach and Pete fighting for 15th.

im curious to see how those projections change when gregg is named closer, nunez steals lindstroms job, and cordero returns healthy...i have a very sneaky RP lineup that has very high upside potential...or they all go bust and i punt saves...

Put me last BH. It won't be the first time I'm projected to finish last and I never have come even close. Though I've never broken into the big leagues, I've also never finished below this level. Don't intend to this year.

I loaded everyone's draft into ESPN. I know alot is locked out, but I think you can view your team. Please let me know of any errors. My plan is to hit the start season button on Sunday so the players come off waivers mid-week.

I noticed a draft analyzer on the ESPN site. Anyone know anything about that? Would it work for our league format to see pre-season rankings?

Please double check your roster and the waiver order and please let me know if you spot any errors.

You asked for it, so here it is. Using my projections I rated everyone by stat and totals. Obviously, I am going to come in first because these are my projections. The projections were made in February so there's some important changes not reflected here, especially with relievers. I do think the projections are pretty fair though. Please don't be sore at me if you are at the bottom. I simply plugged in the numbers.

i really gotta say that ur february projections really dont mean a whole lot to me...so much has changed since then...and much more will continue to change...

i guess its a good place to start...and congrats on drafting well off ur own list...but im guessing that every set of projections that we could use would produce vastly different rankings...

and like gurudan said...many a league are one with a midseason pickup...and many are lost with a first rounder going down for the year...

ok...well...just for the counterargument...here are the results of ESPN projections (using only starting hitters and as many pitchers as will fit under the innings cap, using top pitchers first - which actually helps ERAs and WHIPs in alot of cases)

Ya, the real problem with projections is especially at pitcher, alot of guys draft SP's as platoon options only (like a LAD or SD SP who you only use at home) but the projections add in all those gross road starts like @Phi or @NYY that you would never use him for. Too, guys who drafted bad RP's late just as a dartboard chance at some early saves (who got Miguel Batista? ;) get the whole 80 IP of 4.80 ERA/1.50 WHIP added to their projection.

Still fun to look at though. When making my spreadsheets I gave up trying to make my projection more accurate, so this is the best we got until the season starts.

FWIW, my projections last year had me finishing 1st, and for some reason I didn't!!!!!!!

Not only has the "My team" tab vanished (making it hard to find my team page) ... I no longer have the ability to set rosters for the future (like tomorrow). The only day options for me are today and yesterday.

Lineup Changes: Daily - Slots Lock Individually at Scheduled Gametime

Roster Changes: Daily - Rosters Lock at First Game of Day

I listed all the settings in post [19] of the pre season thread. Was anyone under the impression that they should have been set differently?

Anyway, these settings seem to not changeable now.

As promised, I worked up split standings capability for this league, similar to what I do for the RIBC. This was feasible because ESPN allows outsiders to access league standings and stats.

Here's the link:
http://rotoguru1.com/base/AAAIL.html

A few notes:
1. Split dates of April 5, 6, and 7 are not available. The first date I have saved stats for is April 8th. I hope to have stats saved daily from here on.

2. When calculating the stats generated over a range of days, the software uses ABs as a basis to figure out the OBP. As a consequence, the calculated OBP over a range of dates will often be slightly off, although the longer period, the lower the error should be. SLG should be accurate, subject to rounding. Ditto for ERA and WHIP - for single day splits, internal rounding may cause the reported ratios to be off by a few hundredths.

3. If there are retroactive scoring adjustments made, they will be reflected on the date that the adjustment is made, and not traced back to the original date.

Enjoy! Let me know if something looks wrong (other than Blue Hen being at the top of the standings.)

That's great Guru, thanks.

I've always had problems trying to calculate OBP from AB's. I have some code that will take the Hits and AB's and continuously add them both by one until the OBP number is hit, and if it's not hit add another AB for a SF. But when those totals get bigger, the possible range of OB/PA for any given 3 digit OBP grows. Unless of course you can get OBP to the fourth digit. This was for Yahoo, and since they started adding the totals for each day, this hasn't been as much of an issue.
33Guru
      ID: 330592710
      Fri, Apr 10, 2009, 16:26
I'm not really calculating OBP from AB; I'm just using ABs as a basis to prorate for each team.

For example, I know the total ABs today, and also the true OBP.

I also know the total ABs as of some prior date, as well as the actual ABs as of that date.

I then calculate the estimated OBP for the period between the two dates as:

((OBP1 * AB1) - (OBP0 * AB0)) / (AB1 - AB0)

It's a reasonably good approximation.

Very volitile because we are bunched up in the middle and some of the categories are real tight still. Sometimes it just takes 1 day or 2. My team lost 10 points yesterday, 3 the day before and I went from 5th to 12th.

Playing around with Guru's tool and tossing in different dates (see link in post 31) can really show how things are shuffling so far.

Just a guess, but I think we lost Joe. HIs lineup has been pretty stagnant and there are obvious places even a bad fantasy player would have tweaked. If it was not for his three closers and the saves categories, he is '1' everywhere else and not even close to '2' in most. Even A-Rod (if he comes off Joe's bench) could not pull him out.

If I do not see any manager movement from him that can be described as competitive effort, I'll think it is only fair for the balance of the rest of the league that I block any trade involving him if such an event should even pop up.

I just wanted to throw that thought out.

Bah. David Wright is hurt now. I officially give up. If anyone has a serviceable 3B they'll trade for an outfielder, let me know.

well, i didn't hope to reach second or third place in the standings..... i was getting used to the bottom of the standings....
my team did really play well last july.
i'm a little behind with saves, i didn't pay so much attention during the draft. Also it's tough to be up to date with relievers and potential closers, especially during the season.

Who had the best and worst August

With just a month left to go, the top slot and the top-3 (to advance to the RIBC majors) are up for grabs.

Since we were asked to be Guru's beta-league to test drive the ESPN.com site instead of Yahoo, I put a league managers poll on our ESPN league page as to which site you would recommend. I encourage anyone with strong opinions to provide feedback on this thread.

Three weeks to go, we have a nice little battle for top spot and top-3 going on. I keep trying to knock on the door for top 3 but have not broke through yet and am still stuck at 4th, and am trying to hold off the two behind meSeptember only stats thru 9/13.

As far as I can tell, 12 of us seem still active. Boobs (Kevin), Team Meyer (Joe), and Rogue9 appear to have had no activity since the all star break. Kahan has not had activity in about 4 weeks, and that was their only tweak since the all star break.

I've been playing RIBC for 5 years and I still can't grasp the intricacies of this format. Last year in AAA nobody was better than 108 and 5 teams were within 6 points. This year the top 5 are 112 and better, and when I was last in first, in July, second place had the same score I have now.

There seems to be no benchmark you can set and no winning formula seems to work. It's just plug in your players and hope they do well.

when you compare post 59, who had the best may (and april was similar for my team, it is a stark contrast to the september stats. Early in the season my hitting was doing really well and pitchers were getting bombed everyday. now my hitters are getting 1s in every category and my pitchers are one of the best staffs. And it has all been done with the same players pretty much.

What really throws a monkey wrench into the works are the Sept call-ups who take At-Bats from players on teams that are either out of contention , or "resting" for the playoffs if they're far enough ahead. One of the reasons I prefer the ESPN set-up. At least you have some chance of getting a player into a game when the line-ups are posted.

I should have added in Guruland. Good competition, frequent position changes, lineup tweaks that may mean the difference in three or four places, and no one dummping their rosters because they're not in the running for top spots. Its serious; its fun; Its Serious Fun!

I've done better in the last couple weeks but can't seem to get out of the 5th spot. Looks like it really won't matter, sadly. The only thing I have to hang my hat on is I will improve my score from a year ago, even though I fell one spot.

Congrats to Tosh's Gang Green for a great finish to take the league title. Also props to Tequila for finishing second.

GoldCoach: Great move grabbing some MR for the play-in game and fighting right up to the end for the third slot. You made a very exciting game tonight even more interesting. The difference between my 3rd and your 4th place was literally our 0.001 difference in WHIP and the 2 runs my hitters scored tonight to blue hen's 1 run to break that tie.

Great season all. I'll leave it up to you guys if you want to post a season retrospective or any other recap or post mortum (feel free to follow Guru's RIBC template) in this thread. I'll probably add my thoughts over the weekend.

Thanks to everyone for a very competitive season. It was big fun. I had a fairly cold June and July, and fell into 4th place for quite awhile, and almost hit 5th. But I was able to make inroads in saves and OBP, which brought me back to the top.

A special thanks to Derek Jeter for being the man.

I will provide some sort of de-briefing this weekend.
