This is entirely optional.

Taking the text from RIBC:

RIBC AAA PCL Managers: This thread is for overall comments on the draft. You may use the
questions below as a guide, or simply say what you want to say.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

2. What were your favorite picks? What picks would you like to do over?

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

5. If you could start the whole thing over, would you do anything differently?

Non-managers are also encouraged to post comments.

Since we did not do a running rationale for this league, you can also feel free to put any specific
rationales for any specific picks, or why you chose the draft position you did in this thread.

Please have some fun with this and feel free to add any other comments, predictions, praise, insults
(not too mean), and anything else that will add to entertainment value of this conversation, and maybe
even spark some rivalries or smack talk.

Since nobody else seems to want to kick things off, here's my assessment of the draft.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?
I planned on building the best offense that I could and work on pitching in the later rounds. I wanted to get a closer with little competition (i.e. Hoffman and Qualls) so I didn’t get stuck scrambling for saves all year. Wait on pitching until at least the 7th round. I think I was able to generally follow my plans and pick up some nice late round picks to fill in my roster.

2. What were your favorite picks? What picks would you like to do over?
Picking 10th I really never expect Howard to fall to me. Since we don’t use batting average his weaknesses aren’t as evident in this league. I’m not going to know if A-Rod in the 2nd round was a good pick or not for at least another month. My favorite picks came later in the draft, Bartlett in the 19th and Lewis in the 25th were steals. I don’t think I would have taken Okajima again in the 17th.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?
Youngroman has a nice balance of hitting and pitching. I really don’t see a serious weakness with his team and expect him to compete in every category. I think some of the great picks of the draft included Felipe Lopez in the 13th to adamtkay, Ian Snell in the 24th to slackjaw, Jason Motte in the 15th to beastie, Carlos Villanueva in the 21st to youngroman (I cursed you just a little after that pick), and Emmanuel Buriss in the 23rd to valkyrie.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?
The high price placed on pitching in these leagues never ceases to amaze me.

5. If you could start the whole thing over, would you do anything differently?
Actually I think this year’s draft went much more smoothly for me personally than any other draft I’ve done while with RIBC. Last year I went on vacation during rounds 4 through 16 and a friend drafted for me so I never really felt like that team was mine. I would probably have a very similar draft if I were to start all over again, although I probably would have drafted another SP during the early teen rounds.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had
planned?

Last year was my first and I for some reason decided that P categories would be easier to
gauge.
WRONG! I spent the entire year trying to “fix” my ERA and WHIP after May. So this year my
plan was to draft a solid hitting infield. Since there are so many OF, I decided to use them for
the categories that my INF lacked. I have the potential for lots of SB and Runs.

2. What were your favorite picks?
My favorites would be Jimmy Rollins, Brian McCann, Ryan Madson and Aramis Ramirez.

I have a youngish team that I really like -- too bad we are not a keeper league.... I think
Cameron Maybin, Elvis Andrus, Chris Dickerson, Chris Volstad and Justin Upton could have
“break out” years.

What picks would you like to do over?
I could have and should have picked Valverde over Marmol. I really blew that one. I fully
expect to be at the bottom for Saves. If I get to 40 it will be a miracle.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

AACK. I can’t do that -- it’s too hard to predict. The top 15 for everyone look good and I
don’t know enough about the next 10 picks to make the decision! Sorry.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?
That we did the whole thing untimed and finished with time to spare. That people kept
plucking away at my Q before I could make my pick.

5. If you could start the whole thing over, would you do anything differently?
Not really -- I made the decision to go for hitters and hope the pitchers I have don’t cost me
too much!

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

My plan was to target specific categories and positions. I didn't want to draft 2 1B until I was sure I had 2b,3b,ss,OF set. I also tried to keep the # of pitchers equal to the # of hitters. I was not able to keep with this strategy and ended up playing defensively against position runs. I had players ranked in tiers and when I would see a tier starting to deplete I'd target that position.

2. What were your favorite picks? What picks would you like to do over?
I like Matt Kemp in Round 3 and Liriano in Round 4. I also like Brad Penny in round 22 and Willy Taveras in round 15. Kendry Morales at 19 was a steal IMO. The picks I don't like, Salty at round 13, Fuentes at 6 and Capps at 8. Also Chris Perez at 18 was a mistake.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

youngroman and adamtkay both have very balanced teams that I think are going to have an easy time staying at the top of this league.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?
It went so fast, so smooth great draft.

5. If you could start the whole thing over, would you do anything differently?
I would have not played defensively, I would have stuck to my positions and my stats and drafted according to need.
