Let's keep our conversations going.
I know it is a long season, but feel free to comment on your favorite fantasy team or the favorite real
team that you actually root for -- or any other topic you like.

I took a guess and put in the draft order reversed...?

Let me know if this is OK.

Thanks.

Does anyone else have players you drafted listed as NA by Yahooooooooooooo?

I know of Cordero (Valkyrie) and Andrus (me).

I wonder what will happen to them...?

they aren't listed or listed as NA because they are non-roster invitees. as soon as their teams announce the final rosters Andrus should get assigned to his team. I guess Cordero is missing because he had no contract at the time the players were compiled. usually a player gets added within a week after he appears in his first regular season game.

I also think waivers should be in reversed draft order because we had an odd number of draft rounds. mine looks good. I hope I don't need it soon because it would mean one of my players is unexpectedly bad or injured.

P David Price is listed as NA on my roster because he got sent down to the minors. It is just Yahoo informing you that he is not on a major league roster.

I checked, and I can move him into my starting lineup. So if he is called up and yahoo doesn't change this the NA designation quickly, I can still use him.

wow -- how sweet Villanova in the Final Four!!

A friend just left my house to go home and she called to say she is now sitting at the main
intersection at Villanova and says there are hundreds of kids in the streets cheering. She

not a perfect way o start a season: 1 IP, 1 ER, 2 hits allowed, 1 walk allowed, no save, no win = 9.00 ERA, 3.00 WHIP. at least I got 2 Ks in that one inning.

to make it worse, I have the same pitcher in G20 too, where I am in last place. can I achieve the feet here too? I don't know, because Yahoo isn't updated yet.

Thanks Mike Gonzalez! from now on I can only improve.

2nd day of the season and there are already 2 postponements. it is good to have some quality bats on the bench.

10 days ago we had some snow here in Vienna. this weekend we had over 70 degrees. the weather can change a lot within a week. at least they could try to schedule the first home games in the 2nd week of the season.

my quest for last place continues. why in the hell did I play Cliff Lee today? 7 ER in 5 innings. thank god Harang held the Mets to only 1 run. next up is John Lannan against the Marlins. he starts the game by giving up a single and a double. this is not looking good.

Weather in Philly is stinky too -- cold rain, followed by warm sun, followed by cold rain, etc. It's like
a broken record! My last 2 lacrosse games haven been played in -- you guessed it! cold rain! Plain
ugly!

Great time to go make chocolate chip oatmeal cookies! And sit down to watch the BBall tonight.
Too bad for VU-- if they could only have hit a few 3's -- 5 or 6 would have made a difference. If
MSU hits 3's tonight and causes the TO's -> FB points, I think they could win it.

After yesterday, I was in RIBC 3rd place -- thanks to McCann. Probably the only time all year I'm
that high.

phew -- the Phillies finally won, but I had Blanton pitching and I am sitting Randy Johnson cause they must
have moved his start and I was only able to get to a computer for 15 min mid day and did not see it to change
it -- I even looked a few days ahead to be sure...phooey!
Once again I begin the season with a really high ERA and have to bring it down... sheesch!

judy - as a Blanton owner in G20 I feel your pain. my ERA of 5.45 can only get better too. there is even more room for improvement on my G20 team where I have an ugly ERA of 9.818. If I would have tried to get the highest ERA, I would have failed because my pitchers would have been different and therefore much better.

this brings up an idea: would it be fun to have a scrub league where not the best stats bring you the title, but the worst:
P: worst ERA + WHIP, most L + wild pitches + blown SV
H: most caught stealing + left on base + errors + strike outs + GIDP
I guess there are some more ugly stats out there to choose from

YR -- that would be really fun! You would have to put on a whole different thinking cap! Does
Yahoo track those categories?

I am in two H2H leagues (for the first time) and it would be fun to do it in that format as the
weekly counting would let you adjust your line up faster for greater effect.

at the moment some of my drafted players would be really good fits for such a league

Yahoo can do most of those categories (full list):
- Caught Stealing
- Strikeouts
- Ground Into Double Play
- Errors
- Losses
- Wild Pitches
- Blown Saves
- On-base Percentage Against

but I don't know if they are all counted the right way for such a league. do most CS, SO or GIDP result in the most fantasy-points? I don't know.

I am also a bit busy at the moment, so I don't have the time to set up such a league and look into it. this may be something to think about later this year to set it up for 2010.

in other news: Glen Perkins (my last pick) posts the best pitching line of all of my starting pitchers: 8 IP, 4 K, 1.13 ERA, 0.88 WHIP. too bad that this was not enough for the win.

I played in a scrubs league a couple of years ago and it was fun.
It was a different format. The TSN free salary cap game. The goal
was to have the lowest cap numbers and points. 5x5 roto would
work, too.

YR, it was frustrating when your scrub SP threw a once in a
lifetime gem in a seemingly poor match up, on the road, against
a superior team's ace. Or your catcher, who is a one game per
week backup best known for his defense goes 4-4 with a HR, 3
RBIs, and a couple of runs.

All righty then -- I will start us off.

My team stinks. I drafted purposefully for batting stats and I sit as of today with 1.5, 2, 9 (SB), 1, and
1 points in the hitting categories. Rollins and DeRosa seem to have left it all in the WBC, McCann is
blinded, and my OF is a disaster.

Conversely, my pitching stats are OK: 11.5, 5.5, 10.5, 11 and 13 points. Not too shabby for a position
I wasn't really drafting for...

From original draft list:
DISAPPOINTMENTS still on team: Rollins, J Upton (he might be coming out of his misery -- 2HR),
Maybin, DeJesus
DROPPED ALREADY: Dickerson, Tracy, Farnsworth, Litsch, JSmith
SUCCESSES: Ar Ramirez, Huff, McCann (until he got hurt), Haren, Francisco, Marmol, Madson, Maholm,
Volstad

Overall my team has been average. My hitting has been what I expected. I didn't draft for SB, so I expected that number to be low. R is about average, and RBI, OBP, and SLG numbers are high. My pitching was poor at the start of this season, but has started to improve. My RP have been injured or ineffective, so my SV number is low. A couple of my SP are injured or in the minors, so my W number is low. ERA and WHIP started near the bottom, but have improved to average. K will improve once I get some more IP in relation to other players.

1.12 Mark Teixeira 1B NYY - Numbers less than I expected, but not that bad. Probably just off to a slow start.
2.05 Tim Lincecum SP SFO - Started slow, but has been dominant last two starts.
3.12 Jason Bay OF BOS - Great start to his season.
4.05 Troy Tulowitzki SS - Disappointing so far. I am concerned he will hit this way all season.
5.12 Jose Valverde RP HOU - Hasn't done much because of nagging injuries. Optimistic he will improve.
6.05 B.J. Ryan RP TOR - Placed on IR. Chance he may not be productive this year.
7.12 Raul Ibanez OF PHI - Great start to his season.
8.05 Yovani Gallardo SP MIL - Pitching as well as I expected.
9.12 Hank Blalock 3B TEX - Hitting as expected.
10.05 Mike Lowell 3B BOS - Hitting better than expected. Seems to have recoverd from last season injury.
11.12 David Price SP TAM - Still in minors. Expect him to be called up in May.
12.05 Lastings Milledge OF WAS - Drop because he was sent to minors. Biggest dissapointment on my roster.
13.12 Aaron Hill 2B TOR - Playing great
14.05 Chris Carpenter SP STL - Pitched well in 1st start, but is on IR. Knew this risk when drafting him.
15.12 Ryan Church OF NYM - Hitting as expected.
16.05 Rafael Perez RP CLE - Poor start so I dropped him because of other injuries on my roster.
17.12 Hong-Chih Kuo RP LAD - Poor start.
18.05 Hideki Matsui OF NYY - Hitting as expected.
19.12 Asdrubal Cabrera 2B CLE - Hitting as expected.
20.05 Takashi Saito RP BOS - Pitching as expected.
21.12 Bill Hall 3B MIL - Played well but I ended up dropping him because of other position needs.
22.05 Justin Masterson RP BOS - Has moved into SP role and pitched well.
23.12 Ivan Rodriguez C HOU - Hitting a little worse than expected.
24.05 Mark Ellis 2B OAK - Backup who hasn't been in my lineup. Should probably look for an upgrade.
25.12 Manny Delcarmen RP BOS - Started poorly and dropped.

Pickups

Austin Kearns OF WAS - Has played well and has moved into my starting lineup.
Ryan Garko 1B CLE - Has been on my bench as a backup and not done much. Should probably look for an upgrade.
Hiroki Kuroda SP LAD - Picked him up when someone dropped him because of injury. Expect him back in June.
John Maine SP NYM - Picked him up today after his win last night. Hope his early season pitching problems are over.

My team is fighting... My pitching was supposed to be my strongest field but so far I've not kept up in those categories... My bats have been great, Longoria has been a steal so far, and Morneau has held his own except for the power numbers. I expect him to pick it up when mauer comes back...

all in all i cant be too mad, I've gotta hope my pitching comes around and I'll make a run for 1st

a few days more and I will have more players on the DL than playing. I just hope that Ankiel avoids the DL. this development is definitely not helping the performance of my team.

note for next season: I suggest quality starts instead of wins. every year my pitchers have an above average ERA/WHIP but they don't get run support for the win.

I have Ankiel on a team where we can only change the lineup once a week... I don't know if
you saw the crash, but it was nasty! He did catch the ball too and I am glad they got that right

I agree with the QS instead of wins.

I'm in a league this year that uses QS instead of W, and so far I
like it a lot.

If your guy loses 3-2 because of lack of run support and he
pitches 6 innings, it's nice getting that QS.

I haven't seen the Ankiel crash but it did not sound too good.

as a surprise Joe Beimel is back from DL. I did not see this coming that quick because of the 1IP, 7H, 5ER in single-A ball 3 days ago. I hope I can get some saves out of him.

speaking of saves: Brad Ziegler made a surprise appearance too. his first game since April 25.

so my DL situation got better. I am now hoping that Posada isn't out for an extended period of time. the last news I read was that he landed on DL. in these cases, no news are bad news.

re quality starts: the problem I see is that this completely removes the value of setup man. so it might be a good way to get the starters their fantasy points, but not for the non-closers.
so if you replace W with QS you also need to add something like holds. this leaves you with only 5 batting categories, so you need one more there too, but I don't find one that is not already covered with the 5 we have. unless we split OBP to walks and hits.
so in the end we better stay with our current scoring setup.

I am against adding another BN or DL spot.

There are very few viable hitters available as free agents with our current rosters. Adding another roster spot would put the best free agents on someone's roster.

If one of your hitters gets injured, you would have less free agent replacements to choose from.

This is debated every season. The FA pool is shallow enough as it
is.

Deciding what to do with DL or NA players is part of the strategy
of this format.

I don't get holding a roster spot for a MR not coming back until
June.

I am more concerned about what to do with Ar Ramirez -- he is still in pain and they estimate 6 - 8
weeks. The he has to get back into shape to hit well. The reason I have Romero is that there is no
one else I really want to pick up at this point -- if there really was, I would drop him for a bit.

I would like one DL spot.

I proposed a vote to add a DL spot last year in the RIBC. It lost 9-7 or 8-8. It was close. Maybe next year. They don't change the rules too often in these RIBC formats. Probably a good thing, though.

Well, my pitchers (this goes for all 3 leagues) are generally pitching good games - 5-7 innings of low
ERA and WHIP, but then they lose 2-1, 1-0 or the BP blows the game. Only 17 wins so far with several of
those from my RP.

With my batters refusing to hit, it will be a long season...

The only acceptable stat is SB.

I think not having a DL spot is just stupid and I've never understood it. People don't like to change things around here though.

It's especially funny because the RIHC uses a DL spot, even though the NBA doesn't have a DL. And the RIBC doesn't use a DL spot, even though the MLB does have a DL.

I think you can pick him back up, if you do it the same day. Go try to pick him up. I hope Smoltz does well, I have him stashed on my other team.

Looks like from the above responses and emails, I'll be allowed
to rectify my error, but since I was the one to drop him, Yahoo
will not allow me to put a waver claim on him. I'll only be able
to pick him up after he clears.

If I miss his next start, that's what I get for making the mistake.
But I do thank everyone for their understanding.

Smoltz did look good and it was very cool being there to see him, as
I've been a Braves fan ever since I moved here 15 years ago. The Greenville Drive play at a
modern replica of Fenway, complete with the green monster, but only seats about 5,000 fans.
Today's record crowd was a SRO crowd of over 7,000. Needless to say, he got quite a warm reception.
(Judy, I'll always be a Phillies fan, having been one the first 37
years of my life)

B-7, a recap is here

wavers and I can pick him back up.

Adam has picked up Jurrjens from waivers.

If Adam wasn't first on the waiver list, then this transaction needs to be reversed because others ahead of him may have wanted to claim him but didn't because the consensus was to let MJD rectify his error.

If Adam is willing to trade Jurrjens to MJD, this can fix the problem. Otherwise, I don't know how we can fix it.

As commish, Judy can rectify this problem using commish
controls. I've done it myself, in the past.

Unfortunately, Judy is on vaca for the next 2 weeks with limited
access and did not leave a proxy commish to handle such
maters that could arise while she is away.

I sent an email to Adam, asking him to either drop Jurjens or
join in our discussion here so we can rectify this situation.

As stated previously, no one in their right mind would
purposely drop this player unless it was a inadvertent error.

Just got a reply from Adam and it looks like he missed my email
and has agreed to drop Jurrjens.

I fully expected to miss one start anyhow and if he's dropped
today and no one else claims him, I can get him back in time for
the start after this one that I expected to miss.

I further penalized myself by leaving his roster slot empty and
will continue to until I can get him back.

Thanks, TD for your offer, but if he's dropped today I'll put in a
claim to get him back and hopefully everything works out.

Thanks again for everyone's understanding and sorry for the
error.

The middle (esp 90's) is really tight, after SY leaves a few categories for the rest of us!

My guys keep pitching decently, but don't get the W's. Hitting still a disaster.

Actually got three wins tonight -- Dan Haren and Randy J.

Looking back at the transaction history for the league, three other trades were made earlier in the season. I wasn't aware of these trades until now.

From post 1 of RIBC 2009 thread, trade reject time should be set to 1.

Yeah, I guess I managed to hold on. Both TD and MBT had me scared, as it still seemed as if either of you could have slipped by me all the way to the end. My strategy of chasing innings pitched the last month or so of the season almost bit me. I didn't gain any ground in Wins and lost in ERA and WHIP more than I made up in K's.
