RIBC AA Northern Managers: This thread is for overall comments on the draft. You can use the questions below as a guide, or simply say what you want to say.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

2. What were your favorite picks? What picks would you like to do over?

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

5. If you could start the whole thing over, would you do anything differently?

Non-managers are also encouraged to post comments.

Since we did not do a running rationale for this league, you can also feel free to put in specific rationales for any specific picks.

Since I had 1st pick, was everyone waiting for me?

My strategy was to draft a balanced team which would be competitive in every category. I don't subscribe to the notion that I'll sacrifice steals or saves or another category.

Strangely, my other snake draft(Lucky 13 where Toral is also a manager) I had the last pick. In this draft I was 1st. Whenever you're on the ass end of a draft, you run the risk of losing out on runs, so the tendency is to overreach in certain categories.

So I took Jake Peavy in my 1st cluster, because I wanted a top line starter, and Soria in my third cluster because I wanted a top line closer. You just ca't afford not to pick up these guys if there's a run on SP in rounds 3 and 4 or RP in rounds 5 and 6.

Beyond that, like most teams, my team's success depends a lot on "ifs."

My favorite pick (11.01) is Chris Carpenter, who hasn't allowed an earned run this spring. If he can stay healthy and return to his former dominance, he's a steal in round 11. In round 23, Bartolo Colon is another big "if" with tremendous upside and has pitched well this spring. My other big "ifs" as far as pitching are that Leo Nunez will end up the closer for the Marlins, Edinson Volquez and Armando Gallaraga will match their rookie success, if not improve, especially with Ks for Gallaraga.

I should have paid more attention to the MI position, and especially 2nd base. When I picked Theriot, Yahoo had him as qualifying for 2B. Now, it has him only at SS. So I have to hope that Freddy Sanchez reverts to a high OBP and scores lots of runs, or that Emmanuel Burris at least wins the starting job for the Giants, which is no guarantee.

To be honest, the draft went so fast that, especially in the later rounds, I felt myself kind of unprepared and made a few questionable picks. Probably should have picked Clint Barmes over Sanchez, but I picked Sanchez because he's assured to start, where Barmes has Ian Stewart and John Baker vying for the job and Tulowitsky has SS wrapped up. Speaking of Rockies, Todd Helton could be a steal at 16.15, but having him and the equally ancient Delgado at 1B may also be cause for concern.

Fun draft, thanks to everyone for moving things along. Good luck to all.

Just cause it's spimle doesn't mean it's not super helpful.
