Do you have a keeper declaration date?

I want to settle the draft date first. Typically I make the declaration 2-3 days before that just so I can get my cheat sheets ready.
I've already had a suggestion to move the draft date up a little. Does the weekend of March 19-21 work for everyone? If so, we would still have two weeks to finish it out. If we agree on that, declaration would be no later than March 17th.

With 7 less rounds this year, I'd be nice to draft as late as possible, but I'm OK with whatever works for the league.

Two major trades to announce.
First Between Stealth and Diligad (Mike V): To Stealth: Albert Pujols To Mike V: Carl Crawford, Ben Zobrist and Joey Votto
Second Between Stealth and Wiggs: To Stealth: AJ Burnett and Frankie Rodriguez To Wiggs: Adam Wainwright and Mariano Rivera
Both of these trades were made as fire sales to level out the playing field and improve the teams who finished near the bottom. Just so everyone knows a very similar offer was also made to David Hammack who decided to play his roster as is.

GolfFreak has expressed concerns about the deals I made and why I made them. Would anyone who has heard from me within the last year please try to explain the effort I put towards leveling out the playing field this season. I'd rather not defend myself or my moves alone.
If anyone else feels this way, lets get it out now.

I will stand by you on this one Matt- We have chatted a couple times. I know the efforts you put into this league.
As a matter of fact- I tried to come up with a deal where I give up Utley and got wright and more, but Matt wouldnt do it because it would give him another best player at that position.
I have emailed Bob- maybe we can work this out.

I don't understand GF's "concerns." If you perceive that you have 14 keepers it makes perfect sense to make multi-player trades to upgrade. How does that affect GF.
I think your argument that you want to better balance the league is superfluous and just muddies the water.

Though I'm not doing backflips over the Pujol's trade, I see no reason to veto it or the other trade.
I think we need to step back, take a deep breath and look at the big picture. This is only year one of the series. Sure Stelth pulled off the perfect storm with the near perfect draft and seasonal moves that blew our doors off in year 1 of the series. But whether he beat us by 30+ points or just by .5, he still only gets the same amount of series points.
Hey, I give him all the credit in the world for his perfect draft and season, but I also believe it was somewhat freakish and quite possibly a once in a lifetime occurence.
I know how much time and effort he put into creating a league with a level playing field. And I encourage all league members to trust the system because in the end I believe that it will work out as intended.

Hey fellas, glad to see were getting back together again. I hope everyone had a nice holiday season.
I as well don't have an issue with the trade. Let's level the playing field although I feel like even coming into the season with a lower level team, if you do enough research and follow the FA crop, you can come out of nowhere. Hell, I ended up dropping Kendry Morales and finding Andrew Bailey and Chris Coghlan. All of which hurt and helped my team. With injuries and players coming out of nowhere, I feel like you can build something out of nothing. Anyhow, I am looking forward to the upcoming season and can't wait to get started.

For the record, Stealth did offer me David Wright and my choices of Tommy Hanson, Howie Kendrick and Aaron Hill. I thought it was a more than fair offer, but I don't think my problem is my keepers. Adding more player to choose from doesn't really fix my team, so I passed.
I understand where he is coming from, but I really don't think it is necessary. He kicked our tails because he had a great draft last year, and made good moves. He should be rewarded for doing so. If he can make his team better by moving a few players for one better player, good for him too. But leveling the playing field, while an admirable thought from the commish, is not necessary as far as I am concerned.
The other two deals seem fine with me, and, like I said, the offer he made to me was, I thought, fair. If that deal comes my way after draft day, I am probably all over it.

Have to share moment: My wife works at a local restaurant here owned by one of the old time Tampa Bay Bucs, Leroy Selmon. Its a rib/southern home cooked place. Being that it is in the heart of Tampa, close to the stadiums, they get many ball players. In the past week, she served Andy Pettitte (for the second time, he remembered her from last preseason), and last night Yogi Berra. In the restaurant in the past week, Joe Girardi, Jimmy Rollins and Goose Gossage.
Because it is typically the next questions asked, I'll save you the effort. Yogi ate the ribs, on Girardi's recommendation, had one Vodka on the rocks, and tipped my wife $20 on a comped meal.
My wife is not the average baseball fan wife. She is with me when I go to spring training, she has been to at least 5 opening days at Yankee Stadium and has seen at least 5 playoff games. She shook Yogi's hand twice, shared a joke with Mrs. Berra about being star shocked around Andy Pettitte, and was on cloud 9 the rest of the night.
To anyone who loves baseball (even if your a Yankee hater), love and appreciate Yogi Berra. He was 5'4" (50 years ago), he has 10 rings, 3 MVPs and could be one of the nicest ball players we've ever come across.

As always, I want to make this league as good as can be, and after one year I assume we all have opinions, good or bad, about it.
================================================
THOUGHT 1
As a result of the draft I had last year, I think that we should consider making a rules change where if better than 2/3rds of the group feels that one team is virtually unbeatable, we should redraft. We will give that manager the credit he deserves, consider him the series champ, then start a new series. Believe me, it was fun, but if this season turns out like last season, I will redraft. It is not worth it. So here come the first topics for discussion and voting. These props are to invite discussions prior to voting.
PROP 1 Institute a rule where if better than 2/3rds vote of current managers feel that the series is over because one team is too powerful, we crown that manager series victor and start a new series?
================================================
THOUGHT 2
Because of the limitation to closers available innings, the innings limit of 1500 was a high ceiling. Last season only one of us hit it (MJD at 1507), and another 3-4 of us came within 1-4 starts of it. The other 5 werent close (more than 50 under). I know I only paid attention to it minimally. I would sit some bad matchups, but nothing outside of the ordinary.
I can see lowering it to 1450 (3 out of 10 last year under) or even 1475 (6 out of 10 last year under), just to lean some emphasis on managerial decisions of who to start or sit.
PROP 2 Do you want to lower the innings limit? If so, what number would you rather play by?
================================================
THOUGHT 3
I've been rethinking the 4 year schedule of full/7/5/3 keepers and wondering if anyone thinks that 'series' is too long.
Last year I had seriously considered a three year series with a schedule of full/6/4, then redraft. This is not something that I can say I want to change. I'm more thinking about it with a years experience in the AKI structure.
Now that we are one year in, what is everyone's thoughts there? No prop on this one, just open the door to your thoughts and ideas.
===============================================
I do hope you all realize that this is my idea and I am the commish, but it is our league. I always want your ideas to make it better. I have no ego as far as ownership here. I want this to work and you guys make it work, so lets look at this series as a trial run for what the fantasy leagues should be. If you have an idea that can improve this league, please bring it to the table. My goal with this league is to (a) as completely as possible evaluate the true value of a ball player and (b) create a completely fair playing field with rules and structure that promotes good team management and (c) create a league where every manager has incentive to stay involved until the last pitch.
Please, share your thoughts, good, bad or indifferent.
Thanks, Stealth

I will start some discussions by saying that there are many things that I was hoping would work, but what worked the best for me was the change at closer. I never imagined that the change to limiting the closer to two spots per day would matter so much, but I saw that it did. There was a time that if your closer blew the save, it could end up costing up to 3-5 league points.
Also I was very, very happy with the changes from Wins to QS, and the HR's to SLG and lastly, thrilled that defense finally mattered, which filled my belly with warm fuzzies.

Some thoughts:
Prop 1. I'm OK with that, but I think we need to play things out this year and see what happens. I also think we should see what happens this year before going from a 4 to a three year series, but I could see it happening.
Prop 2. I'm for lowering the IP to 1450.
I like all the scoring changes that were made and think that you nailed that aspect in search of the perfect format.

I'm going to email the group again to be sure the dates are good for everyone. I am going to assume the draft date of MARCH 19th is good for everyone, as nobody has commented there. If that doesn't work for anyone, say so now. If that is the draft day, then keepers will need to be posted here by Wednesday, March 17th, 10pm eastern.
I'm also going to put the first two props up for formal votes. Everyone seems to like the 4 year series format, so I will rest on that for now. That topic would always be up for discussion in the future, should it become an issue.
Please everyone check in with votes. I will keep the votes open for a few days to give everyone a chance to get their votes in.
VOTE 1: New Rule: If one manager seems too powerful, the group can suggest and vote to end the series and begin a new series. Must be after the 2nd season of the series. Please vote 'pass' or 'veto'.
VOTE 2: Rule Change: Do you want to change the innings limit to 1450? Please vote '1450' or '1500'.

I just wanted to add a thought regarding Vote 1, I stated earlier and should've again, if we did pass that vote, and did want to vote a new series, it would have to be after the 2nd season and it would need more than 2/3rds the league to agree to pass. This is not a vote to see if we should restart now, only a vote to put in place a safety net to ensure that we are all having fun and interested in seeing thru a long season and longer series.
I can tell you right now, if 7 out of 10 of us want anything done in this league, it should happen. That is a tough vote even if it is passed. The 'AKI' series is set up so that we shouldn't ever get to see that needed, but now I think after seeing last season happen it may be a nice safety net.

I will be expecting a nutty Friday. I'm trying to run a business, set up this draft and I will be watching my two year old all day. On top of it, I just got 3 tomato plants that I have to set up outside. I will be home, but not sitting in front of the bot for 12 hrs a day like usual.
I think, being that we know the order it may be nice to have a draft buddy and have some way of passing on the knowledge. I don't think Amit has my cell phone, but I will give it to him so that he can let me know when its my turn. I will find out how David Hammack wants me to let him know I've picked, so I can let him know its his turn.
We've all done this many times, but it should be said anyway.
1 - Please be courteous and leave queues if you're going to be away from the computer for any given period of time.
2 - Try, whenever possible to let us know if you're going dark for any extended period so that others may take advantage of given time frame pretending we care about our loved ones.
3 - It may be a good idea to have anyones cell phone, mine is available to all, (please use it, love texting), I will email it to the group before I sleep tonight. Emergency's happen. We all know its come up more than once before. We are all sympathetic and have no interest in skipping anyone. Just if possible, try to contact someone should an emergency come up.
There is no clock because we don't need one. Don't be the guy that makes us need one. Be courteous and understanding as you all have always done in the past.
And lastly, please don't pick my guys.

Kafenatid is pending payment. Once that goes thru, we will start.
In the mean time, here is some statistical research that I've done to maybe help myself, which I will share with everyone. I was very curious to see what the stat cat averages were, and then what they were without the top and worst ranked teams for each cat. I am going to use ESPN projected numbers (best I got) to achieve projected goal numbers per cat. This is what I've learned.
OFFENSE
Runs Best: 1199 Worst: 1052 Average per team: 1112.5 Average w/o best & worst: 1109.25 For example here only, my projected goal is 1150.

Hey Donny, I've sent at least 5-10 emails to you this spring. It seems that few of them get through. It only seems to be with your email addy. If you only have the one, maybe I can add your texting phone number to the list so that you get a text anytime I send to the group.
I remember this problem going back for many years. I have no clue how to solve it. My best guess is that somehow I got on your company's spam list, maybe because I have a personal email address. Other suggestions may be to check your spam filters to see if I'm being filtered out or add my domain (necroto.com) to your list of good addresses. If not, I have no other ideas.

No problems, thanks for the update. I have been making picks from a list that WG emailed me. He is in India and he said 9.5 hours ahead. I've already picked from his list twice and I should be good for at least one more. After that, it depends on picks, but I'd imagine we would be waiting for him until much later tonight eventually. First, let me start by saying I only found out about this yesterday morning. Amit is in India and that is about as much info as I have. He told me that he is 9.5 hours ahead and that he was going to be traveling to the north starting yesterday. This means that right now it is 1am, today is likely shot altogether. His words were 'my internet access could be more sparse' and 'could go a day or two without access at times'.
We still have plenty of time to finish, so I don't see a need to rush anything just yet. I know that Dave Hammack is traveling next weekend, so we should do our best to finish prior to that, out of respect of informing us.
After looking over WG's roster I can see that he doesn't have a closer yet and only has 2 SPs. I've discussed this with MJD and neither of us really want the responsibility or backlash which may/may not come with drafting for another. Speaking for myself alone, I certainly do not want to pick players for someone picking two before me. I'd be giving him my team.
Ideas, thoughts, comments? This is our league so we want to know what you guys feel. Please comment.

I think that at this point we can afford to wait a bit. We know that he has always been a reliable and respected manager for years and would never intentionally go MIA. I've been in many leagues with him and unless something totallly unexpected happened, I believe that he'll be back very soon.
With the way the series is set up, every season is important. Plus, once we get going again, we'll fly through this thing in 3 days max.
So I say let's hang, for now.
If by some chance we don't hear from him in 24 hours or so, then we can start discussing a potential plan B.

I agree with shutting the draft down 'till his airness surfaces. Time for this league is not a problem.
Maybe next contact we get with him he could give us a frame work to select for him. I have no problem with the responsibility as I draft immediately before him..but then who wants the players I pick :(

We should wait for him... to some point. I think, just as a backup plan, we should have something ready.
Being that his next picks can be argued as 'have to' get a closer and a 3rd starter, I would consider making his next two picks the highest RP (rd14), then SP (rd15) available. This would at least let us move another 2+ rounds and buy him another 24-36 hours to find an internet cafe in nothern India. This is the next-to-last thing I want to do, with the last thing being waiting without communication.
I fear that if we don't hear from him by 3'ish pm, today is also lost. He has already gone 48 hours without communication. I'm not afraid that we won't finish in time or that he is going to drop off the face of the earth. I'm bothered that we weren't informed and I would like to finish quickly for my own well being.
I would be ok with Taxman making his picks, but I still think that should be the last possible option. Not because we don't trust Tax, or because 'nobody wants the players he picks', lol, but it shouldn't be his burden either.
My suggestion is give him until I sleep tonight. That should be after the sun rises in India tomorrow morning. That would also be 72 hours dark, one more than he promised it would be. If he hasn't contacted me by then I will pick the top closer available, Cordero. This way, we can start a new round tomorrow and at least have some movement. If we don't hear from him by 3pm tomorrow, I will take the top SP available (healthy), and give us another round for that late afternoon/evening. If he doesn't get in touch with us by the time I sleep tomorrow, I think we should have a different conversation.
Even if everyone is alright and willing to wait, I cannot imagine there are grumblings that aren't being said. I know we have enough time, but we waited to start late on purpose, David Hammack was gracious enough to let us know he was traveling and should be respected and nobody was informed of this prior. I'll say it, I'm bothered by this. I want Amit to draft his players and manage his team. But not at the expense of the rest of us.

I want Amit to pick his player so we will wait until tomorrow afternoon, say 3pm. If I don't hear from him by then I will pick a player for him. If we dont hear from him later that evening I will pick a second player for him. If we dont hear from him by Wednesday morning we need to have a different talk.
Is everyone going to be around tomorrow afternoon to move 2 rounds at least?
Amit, if you're seeing this, please pick your player at Kafenatid and set up a very, very long queue. Let us know when we expect to hear from you.

I picked Cordero for WG. I still haven't heard from him since Friday night at about 1am. I have no news from him. I am, and I know others are very bothered by this. We all hope that he is healthy, but this is beyond any slack given to any manager in the 8 years the bulk of this group has been together. So know what?!?
Not sure. For now, I've made the pick of Chad Cordero (Cin) for that team. I will pick the highest available healthy SP for his next pick. This is all we've agreed upon at this point.
My bigger concern is that no matter where he is now, access to the internet is obviously not easy. He would need to catch up the last 30 some odd picks since he's left, then formulate a strategy then put together a queue, no a very lengthy queue. Then what if we don't hear from him again for another 4 days? We have about three full days of drafting to go and 12 days before the season starts.
At the very least we need to establish a cut off time. Something that we can say we gave him a fair shot and don't look back. Honestly, I'm passed that point, so its up to you guys. If his team is to be taken over, the new manager should be picking for themselves asap.
I have no clue when we will hear from him, if he will be able to get to a computer at all, if he is alive at all, when he was expected to return, where is 'traveling north' exactly, nothing. I think that we need to discuss replacing him for this season.

Last year there were two potential managers that we were considering to join us when we went with WG as our 10th. One was named 'Judy' the other was 'Holt'. I just made the offer to Judy, but MJD thinks her plate may be a little too full right now. Wiggs is trying to get in contact with GoldCoach now. If neither of these two can, we will try Holt. I offered to Judy as last year she was being considered when we went with WG. I told her then that if there was an opening we would offer it to her. GoldCoach was recommended by Wiggs, and MJD seconded.

I've also just barked up the MITH tree again to see if anything shook loose. His opinion was that his little sister Danielle would be able to pick as good as he could, he's been out for 2 years and won't know anyone. He said he knows someone that you all may know (I forget his name, only remember him saying he hated "Tree", which is good enuf in my book). Ok this is the current status of our nightmare draft. Amit has shown up. If you didn't see his email, he was stuck in a hotel that was promised to have internet access and didn't. We had a few invitations and one (Glenn Austin) was accepted.
I've emailed both Glenn and Amit. At this point, my biggest fear is that even though Amit has gotten to a computer, he is still in India and he will still be working from queues on a 9 hour time difference without a cell phone. This doesn't exactly make him more accessable. I've heard from MJD and others that he hasn't held up any drafts working from there.
I told Amit that if he can get me a queue covering at least 3-4 rounds in the next hour or so that we would give him his team back. If he can't then I would rather go with Glenn knowing that someone would be here and we would bang this out in the next 3 days.
I've emailed Glenn (GoldCoach) the roster and the links to the two seasons threads so he can familiarize himself with the team and AKI structure. He is in if we want him. I have him in a holding pattern waiting to see if WG can get me a list.
Know this my 'lil group. We will be picking shortly with a strong desire to move along.

I think we might be able to finish this thing this weekend if people leave queues- I will be around all day- at the computer and over the weekend. Especially since my saturday plans got nixed when the cuse lost last night.

Sorry Wiggs; My brother is a Grad from there and I imagine he's feeling the pain as well. I bet it was a tough drive home.

Well fortunately I did not have to drive home- unfortunately I did have to work this morning- and my wife is away so I also had to take care of getting the kid ready for school. Not fun. Needless to say- the kids will be having an easy school day today.

I can just picture the kids today, neither have bathed, the hair is all tussled up, he's wearing her skirt, shes wearing his shoes, neither of them have any orange on them at all. On their way out the door, Wiggs hands them sticks of beef jerky and says, 'life is full of disappointments'.
Something like that...

Actually I just have 1 son- but he did get a bag of chips a juice box and a 5 dollar bill for lunch. He says to me "Dad- Mom makes me lunch" So I said if you buy you can have Ice Cream too- He left happy :) Definitely no orange though

Ty Tax.
The draft is now complete. Thanks to everyone. Phenomenal job. Without the major pause, we would've smashed last years record pace.
I will do my best to load the rosters and start the season as soon as possible.

Just wanted to post another apology here as well... sorry again for the problems I caused... I should have anticipated the lack of internet beforehand and planned accordingly. I appreciate you guys waiting as long as you did for me. Good luck everyone, and GC, hopefully you can take our team to that next level!
