Subject: Oregon Inlet Fantasy League-NL only-H2H 2010

This league is starting up as the NL version to the long standing
Puget Sound Fantasy League AL only H2H run by Tosh. There are
several people playing in both leagues, but it looks like the NL
edition will need at least 2 or 3 more managers to get to my
goal of 10 teams.
I'm not exactly sure if Tosh has the AL league filled yet, but if
not, he can recruit on this thread also.
Both leagues will have the exact same rules, play on Yahoo, and
slow draft using Kafenatid's On the Clock.
Settings for both leagues are-
Daily lineup changes
7 minimum innings pitched per week
Scoring periods (weeks) begin on Monday
Stat Categories: R, HR, RBI, SB, OBP, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP
Roster Positions (23 players):
Hitters - C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util
Pitchers - SP, RP, P, P, P, P, P, P, P
Bench - 5 slots
DL - 3 slots
Playoffs-Week 23, 24 and 25 (6 teams)
Note: Week 25 runs 14 days from Sep 20 to Oct 3
Also note, We've tried 12 teams, but 10 work much better. The
MLB NL has 2 more teams than the AL, so the NL player pool is a
little deeper.
Wish I started this league last year with all the interleague player
movement.
I've enjoyed playing in Tosh's PSFL for 3 years now and it's well
run, very active, and most importantly-fun.
Shoot me an email if interested. Our draft usually starts in mid
March about the same time as the RIBC.

If any player is traded to the other league, his stats are immediately
disregarded.
Last year my AL only hitting was weak, but I had some good SP. So
I traded Jon Lester for whoever because I had Cliff Lee. A week later
Lee gets traded to the NL Phillies.
Worst team I ever fielded in fantasy sports.

Like our AL bretheren, it's time to select our draft order.
I took the team names as they currently appear,
and alphabetized the list. I used the Random Sequence
Generator
three times, and re-sorted each time.
The numbers came out as -
9,7,3,4,8,6,10,2,1,5
2,8,5,9,1,10,6,7,4,3

I intended to run our draft concurrent with the AL only, but if
enough managers want it opened, I'll do whatever. Thought it
might make it easier for the managers in both leagues Some
managers may also want a little more time for research.
Once we get started, this draft should fly.

For some reason I let you get Werth here and mjd got him right before me in RIBC -- I had him
pegged for the updraft just 3 picks later in RIBC. His ranking was all over the place so I thought he
could sneak through, but knowing that you guys were near me, I should have taken him sooner
than you guys did!

I am hoping Lidge will be healthy and perform like he did in 2008. I attribute last years problems to a change in mechanics because of injury. I didn't see any better closer options at this spot in the draft. I was afraid Judy would pick Lidge with one of her two picks before it got back to me.

Hmm, I probably myself would not have taken Dotel this past round but no worries... I can still get one of the guys I would have considered instead. Thanks for bearing with me guys. I've posted on a couple threads already... but I'm on vacation in India... we're 10.5 hours ahead... plus theres blackouts all the time... there's 2 scheduled blackouts everyday for an hour in Mysore... but the problem is they happen in different areas... so you can get hit by like 5 or 6 a day. Suffice to say my fantasy bball teams and baseball drafting has suffered because of it.

That last guy I drafted at 23.02, Jordan Zimmerman, is only a placeholder. He was the only NL player I could find at kafenatid that is injured long-term. He could pitch a few innings late in the season. The player I'm actually drafting is Jermaine Dye.

NP. Dye's name is not listed in the Yahoo NL only data base. We
all know that as long as his placeholder is on your roster, you have
exclusive rights to Dye.
If/when Zim makes the big time, we'll find another placeholder.
I saw one the other day, but of course i don't recall who it was
right now.

Not much movement in the standing last week. All matchups were 5-4 or 5-5. Only 5 more regular season weeks left.
I'll have to make a move soon into the top 6 to make the playoffs. At least my team is in a better position than Judy's.:)

Also, BOO for the fact that I couldn't put a waiver claim in on Minor. I had no idea it was a rule that I couldn't put a claim in on a player I'd dropped. I guess it sorta makes sense, but only sorta. Not sure I would have dropped him had I known that.

Congratulations to SANFORDORS on winning the league championship. It came down to this tiebreaker.
In the event that a playoff game ends in a tie, the deadlock is broken using the following system:
1. Winning percentage against this opponent during the regular season. The winning percentage is based on individual stat category wins and losses, not match up wins and losses.
2. Playoff seed.
I enjoyed competing in this league. One change I think we should consider is reducing or eliminating the number of DL spots.

Congrats sanfordors on winning it all, and congrats greggoromans on a hard fought battle. I enjoyed playing in this league as well, and hope to continue next year.
One suggestion I'd have is maybe limiting the number of pickups per week? Or eliminating add/drops altogether come playoff time? After it was obvious I would lose era and whip I just loaded up on crappy SP to try and take wins, K's, and saves (added a bunch of middle relievers). I don't think I was alone in incorporating this strategy, but given the parameters of our league I don't think there was anything wrong with doing this. If no one has a problem with it, then I'm ok with leaving things the way they are, but it just seems a little strange to let guys who would never make a roster during the regular season help decide games at the end.

Great season everyone. It was nice to finally have the NL-only to go along with the PSFL.
What did I learn the most? I learned that except for the top players, I know practically nothing about the NL. Except for a few years in the early-80s when I followed the Cubs on WGN, I've always been an AL guy. I signed so many guys this year that I have never heard of it's embarrassing.
See y'all in 2011.
