I will be using Guru's randomizer to set up two sets of numbers.
The first set will be emailed to adam, bean and da Bomb (and myself). Would one of you please post the order in
this thread.
The second set of numbers will be emailed to electroman, mjd, and toral (and myself). Please post.
The separate emailings are to prevent collusion or "cheating", but I KNOW we wouldn't be doing that!
Once the numbers are posted, I need someone to volunteer to run the program and post the results here,
showing all work. If you wish to volunteer, please sign up here.

Setting the league preferences (March 1):
Interestingly, Yahoo offered an option this year for same day roster moves, rather than next day - so I
selected that. That has always been a gripe about Yahoo leagues. Presumably, this means that if you add a
player today, you can use him in your lineup today.
A re consideration of this (please see main RIBC thread for other opinions).(March 2)
Regarding Yahoo player availability deadlines.
A strict reading of the Yahoo language suggests that frozen players simply could not be transacted until the
following day, rather than having those moves deferred until the following day.
If so, it would suck to essentially be unable to make any roster adjustments in the evening, after most games
have started. Maybe we'd be better served by going back to "tomorrow".
Unfortunately, this is one setting that gets locked in once the draft is completed, so we don't get a chance to
try and see.
Here is the official Yahoo language:
If you choose to configure your league to allow transactions to take effect on the day they are made, you will
be able to add free agents to your roster for the current day so long as all transactions are completed no
later than five minutes before the start of each player's game. None of the players involved in a move can
have played or be within five minutes of their game's start time, or the transaction will not be
allowed. So, for example, transactions for all players who play at 4:30 pm PT must be completed by
4:25 pm PT.
Let's put this to a league vote. Shall we go to same day roster changes, or continue with the previous year's
approach of next day changes?

Sounds to me like a slightly unclearly worded description of the usual policy in same-day-transaction leagues, namely, you can't add or release a player after his game starts on that day.

RE #2.
So under the proposed rule change, If I decide to add Player X I can use him today.
But assume that I want to plan ahead and get player X for tomorrow, I cannot add him until his game
is over today?
That means having to stay up late each night to wait for games to end and who know how reliable
YAhoo will be with their time clock.
I think I would rather make a change today for tomorrow, rather than try to beat the start time each
morning and then be locked out.
I guess it depends upon when you work out your lineup drop/adds, but mine are mostly at night for
the next day and the new rule would not let me do that???

We don't know for sure whether you can add X for tomorrow after his game has started today -- either during his game or after -- because of the unclarity of the wording. My guess would be that you could, but we can't be 100% sure. It would be silly to have it otherwise than that an add or drop after a gamestart can be done, but takes place tomorrow. That's already Yahoo!'s default system, so I expect they would keep it.

I am for same day transactions. I always wondered why they did not have this feature and I believe that after a players game started you can still pick him up for tomorrows game. everything different than that would make no sense.

Question I posed to Yahoo!
I have a question on the "Same Day" roster option since this is new. I understand that we can add/drop players and then have the new player immediately slotted into that day's lineup (provided we are still more than 5 minutes from start time).
What happens if we want to do an add a player after a player's game has started? Will the system still allow that but then not allow the new player to appear on that day's lineup (and therefore work like the daily/next day option does) or will it reject totally and only allow us to make the desired roster moves the next day? What about if the dropped player's game started but the added playerhas not? Will that move also fully reject or at least work like the next day option? Thank you

I appreciate your inquiry in regard to Daily - Today transactions.
Daily - Today was previously a PLUS only feature and it enables you to make a player add or drop for the same day as long as that player’s game has not started yet. With this setting your managers would need to be able to make player adds and drops each morning before the daily slate of games starts. Once a player’s game starts you are not able to waive them if they are in a starting roster position until 12:01 AM PT the next morning. Bench players can be waived, but if a player gets injured during a game and you want to waive them you will have to wait until the next day if you had them active.
Players can be added at any time as we automatically place all new players on your bench. If the player’s game is within the 5 minute window they will simply get locked on your bench for that day.

so
I can add and use a player up to 5 min before his game time.
If I add a player after the 5 min window, he goes to my bench (locked) but if I go to the next day rosters I can
put him in.
I can drop a bench player anytime, but a playing player cannot be dropped until 12.01 PT (3 am eastern!).
Do I have it correct?

Judy - I think you are correct.
for me living in Europe 12.01 PT is 9am in the morning and I would have all day to make my roster moves. so I stay with my YES vote for same-day transactions.

Judy you are at the bottom of the turn ... Actually I am at least a little embarrassed that I chose drafting conveniance over a very slightly
better draft slot- although I do like the idea of being able to double pick and really clean out a position queue if I want to.
The unfortunate aspect I see is that I am west coast and you are east coast and it is very tough to expect me to queue 2 picks which have to last me for 30 turns so you may have a couple night to morning delays if you pick late at night eastern time. I will do my best to minimize your inconveniance.

no problem Valkyrie -- thanks for the updates -- I was pondering the same issues --
just because it is at the turn, it does not go quickly as there is so much to consider. I
was thinking that I would not be leaving Q's for both slots esp since I need to see what
has happened in the 30 slots in between picks. So if I pick odd late at night, I'll go to
bed and I'll do my even when I get up the next day -- no problem!
Generally if we all post delays here, it keeps everyone happy.

I called Bean and he is on the highway. He will try and find a wifi spot to sign in and pick.
He left a Q, but forgot to turn it on.
My suggestion is that you leave Q's for the rest of the round so that it rolls once he signs
in. Be sure to turn your Q's on so your DP's can pick for you!
We are still in the pre draft season, so technically we are ahead of the curve!

Thanks for the offer. Check out the leagues threads to see what we did last year. It worked really well.
Everyone did 5 at once and we did not need to redo or re-enter it so we did not have to deal with all
that mess -- esp the waiting for the missing picks! It made a nice analysis when you could read about
a sequence of picks and see why the manager chose who s/he did. It is also easier to see who is
missing!!

Judy, I think Bean was referring to adding d rafted players to Yahoo! as we go along rather than at the end. Some people like to look at Yahoo! stats before they draft and they need to have the players removed as we go along. (Also saves the commish a coupla hours o' the dullest work of being a commish at the end of the draft.)
One thing though -- if you cede your commish powers to bean temporarily, make sure you make him promise to give them back!

I think that if we decide to pick for him the best way is to find another gurupie from outside the league who can spend a few minutes looking at our draft board and Da Bomb's team so far and make the pick he thinks is best... we can use the time until 7.06 to find someone who agrees to help us.

I think we should use some kind of objective list It should be generated for as 5x5 OBP/SLG league so the other AAA would be best, avoiding position duplication.
The question is how long we should wait. No more than one round. No less than...well we know the problem so it's not like Da Bomb is going to show up in a few hours and be mad we picked for him. I think we might go ahead now.

sheesh -- in round 15, you guys "stole" 6 field players off my list and they all had
asterisks, meaning I thought they would be good! I guess I have to say "nice work". I am
not displeased with the guy I got though, so don't feel too sorry for me!

woo -- got the SP I wanted in #16 --and now the wait begins again as I watch you guys clean
out my lists...
I think I like the fast turn around down here at 14 and 2, as you can pretty much
guess which two guys you'll be getting once it actually IS your turn.
However, the 29 player wait in between is killing me as I love to make wish lists only to watch
you guys pick 'em off. I wonder who will be left when my turn comes up again... time will tell!

We made great progress over the weekend! We are averaging 1:30 per pick -- a great rate for
an untimed draft. Many thanks to all of you for you conscientious approach to our league.

Cat update --
They called a hour in to the surgery and wanted to quit. Tumor was twice as big as the
ultrasound showed and surrounding all the important liver area tubes (arteries, veins, ducts).
I said "no" and he is now in the recovery room purring away. It is still very early and things
could change quickly, but the vet is guardedly hopeful. He has his own private nurse!
He is one stubborn and persistent cat so I am ever so hopeful. He won't live a couple more
years but I will take a coupla months. He is very special. I hope to be able to see him
tonight.

I dont know if there is a way to undo my last pick. I took the wrong Young. I made my pick from my iphone and was kinda rushed. I wanted C. Young the pitcher not the OF.
I will understand if you can't do anything. Just thought I would plead my case.

Judy my team entries on Yahoo are correct overall- you made it very hard on yourself as I picked 16th and not 15th and some of the rounds are reversed but the final result is right- that was kind of painful- did I really make those picks voluntarily LOL.

The button has been pushed, the waiver order set up. (You can check it -- reverse draft
order -- I am pretty sure it is correct)
I will post guidelines for draft recap and analysis of your team and others -- soon. Gotta
see what guidelines the big boys use for that.
In the meantime, please work on those rationales. I will no doubt send out an email
congratulating those who have completed all or sections!
