0 Subject: Puget Sound H2H AL-only ~ Year 7 ~ 2010

- Leader [057721710] Tue, Mar 02, 2010, 19:44

Welcome back to Season 7 of the PSFL.

Nine of the ten previous managers have returned. philflyboy has declined the invite. 2005 PSFL champion darkside has returned to take the slot.

The defending champs are the Greggo Romans.

The draft will be held again at kafenatid.net. Info on joining will be emailed soon.

Last year we started picking draft positions on March 6. Started the draft on March 14, and started the clock on March 16. We flew through and finished on March 21. I think starting the draft about the same time is reasonable. But once we get our draft order settled, I see no reason to hold back if you gals (and guys) want to get started.

The first order of business is to select our draft order. I will follow the same process as last year, and use random.org three times to re-sort an alphabetical list. Once sorted, we can select our draft order. Details to come.

I'm looking forward to this season. My opportunity to three-peat as champion was foiled. I look forward to winning my belt back.

Welcome back and Game on!

Glad to be back and looking forward to another season of scouring the wire for some AL scrub I've never heard of but starts tomorrow against the lowly [insert weak AL team here].

It's time to select our draft order.

I took the team names as they currently appear,
and alphabetized the list. I used the Random Sequence Generator
three times, and re-sorted each time.

The numbers came out as -
2,7,5,1,9,8,10,6,3,4
4,8,3,2,6,1,7,5,9,10
3,6,2,9,7,4,8,1,10,5

That gives us the final order -
darkside
Three & Out
Taxes stRangers
Kokeshis
SANFORDERS
The Islanders
Philly Rocks
Greggo Romans
mjd
Mudville 9.

darkside - Go ahead and start us off.

When you choose your spot, please fill in here,
remove your name from the list following it and

I wish I had a plan. It's more of a sanity pick. With everything blocked at work and a newborn at home, this will cut my time watching the draft in half. At least that's my theory. Plus, I sort of like the 10/11 best player over the 1/20.

If it were the NL, with guys like Pujols, Hanley, and Utley, then I would have likely taken a high pick, but it's hard for me to get excited about ARod, Mauer, Teix, etc, when I can make my life easier and take a lower pick. I hope I don't regret it!

We're just getting warmed up.

Didn't it take us longer to select draft positions than to do the
entire draft last year?

And a sucky winter to boot. Even here in the South we have been
hybernating until of late.

I got an email from Three&Out this morning, saying "Sorry. I'm signed up now.".

He did indeed sign up at kafenatid. He has not been back to this thread to pick his draft slot. If he does not pick his position by 5pm Left Coast time today ... I will give him slot #1, and we will move on ...

Hey Judy,
Are you from Fla.? I seem to recall you nabbing all my targeted Tampa players last year just a few picks before I could get my claim in. I never got the chance to congratulate you on driving me crazy with knack for grabbing the EXACT player I had targeted round after round. Good job.

One of the most amazing seasons by a player in my youth: Steve Carlton for the TERRIBLE Phillies of 1972. He was a 27 game winner, with a 1.97 E.R.A., an under 1 WHIP, and 310 Ks in 346 IP; and he LOST 10 games with those #s. Why? The team was so bad only one regular (Greg Luzinski) hit better than .260; no player scored more than 67 runs; no player knocked in more than 68; the team leader in HRs hit 18; and only 3 players hit more than 10 HRs. Carlton got 27 of their 59 wins and usually went the distance to do it. He would have easily won 30 on ANY other team in the NL. Without him, I feel certain the Phils would have set the season record for losses.

I grew up just across the Walt Whitman from Philly in South
Jersey. I saw Bunning's perfect game on TV.

Bunning's perfecto was game 1 of a Father's Day double header
(remember them?) against the Mets. Phil's rookie Rick Wise
started the second game.

Rick Wise was traded for Steve Carlton just before that 1972
season. Argueably, the worst trade in Cardinals history. Lefty
also threw 30 complete games that amazing year.

Judy...not to be calling you out...but I am after posts 28 & 29..not to mention I am in the AAA league you are managing. You could have certainly e-mailed me your concerns about my disappearing in this league. You put a premium on attention..so pay attention to the following and then I would appreciatiate your acknowledgement that I have been on top of the AAA league despite my distractions.

Yes. I have had some serious problems with wife's health (she has previously had 2 mitral valve surgeries and a stroke) problems starting @ middle of February. 3-4 wks of cardiologists, electrophysiologists (overtrained cardioligists), hospital stays, blood drawing clinics, adjusting to beta blockers, cuminin (bloodthinners), atrial fibulation/flutter, low blood pressure, pulse at one time above 165..later below 40, receiving an atrial ablation that solved the fibulation/flutter problem but opened up several other cans of worms (including springing a leak in her groin where catheter inserted for ablation..15 minutes of blood spurting), and last Friday having a pace maker inserted which has gone marginally well (compared to the ablation). To top it off, I suffered some type of sacroiliac malfunction that hinders me from walking (often I couldn't crawl..hip got out of joint, but there are other problems). My pain is almost bearable, but is nothing..nothing to what my wife has gone through this month. My &hit is probably psycho sematic, but the pain and motor skill problems still exist for what ever reason.

So yeah..I wasn't on top of this league's needs/requirements. I flat f#cking missed it. But I was able to stay on top (for the most part) with AAA and ATHBS leagues.

In following seasons, I would suggest you/anyone with concerns not post silly/insinuating remarks in rotoguru threads...but instead do something useful..attempt to solve the problem. Try obtaining a phone number by asking in a post/thread if anyone has the missing person's phone number.

I apologize for my derelict behavior in this league and the resulting insult to each of you for neither keeping on top of this league's requirements nor appraising you of my hinderance(s)

Enough said. I got that off my chest..so on with the games.

Judy is just used to that big-city pace of life. In the Puget Sound and Texas, where we still travel around on orcas/horses ... we'll get there when we get there. And we're already three days ahead of last year.

A couple of things that have been on my mind ...

Last year, mjd proposed that the team that finishes in last place, gets to pay for kafenatid the following season. He was a man of his proposal and paid our kafenatid fee this year. Thanks Mike. Hopefully this tradition can continue.--------------

Just like last year, you are free to sign un-signed players. Feel free to draft Roger Clemens. That means we will need some placeholders, since those players will not be available at kafenatid.

Omar Poveda (P, TEX) is the first placeholder. He's out for the year.

Who has recommendations for more placeholder names?

You can see who made the pick by clicking on your name and then the name of the player...

It wasn't me for round 7 (I wasn't home at 11:37.); it might have been me for round 8 as I made
mine at 5:02 and your round 8 went at 5:03, but I usually try to wait a bit before picking for

I've been emailing my draft lists back and forth between work and home. Today when I got home, the AL-only and NL-only sheets ended up "corrupted" somehow.

And when I got home, I was on the clock in both drafts. So I was really flying by the seat of my pants for those last picks.

As the # 1 guy, I had some difficult choices to make with so many
holes in my lineup. Looked hard at Capps.

Decided to go in another direction. I may regret passing on him,
but I never expected him to fall to 5th.

I had the #1 slot for awhile, but used it on Koji Uehara when I read something that used his name and the word 'closer' in the same sentence. Uehara went on the DL like 4 days later ...

It's going to be an exciting final week coming up. Five teams battling for the final two slots, that are currently only separated by five games.

Even though I'm currently in 4th place, I don't feel safe. I'm not that far ahead of the pack.

I'm doing my damnedest to get in and pull a greggoromans maneuver.

Thought I made the playoffs. Tied with Midville, but he gets in. Not sure what the tiebreaker is, maybe H2H record between us?

Anyhow, I dropped the players I picked up earlier before I realized that I came up short.

Sorry about my confusion.

Good luck to those who got in.

Founnd the tiebreaker rule.

Mudville had a higher winning percentage last week.

Dang, thought I made the playoffs this year.

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more teams in a Head-to-Head League finish tied in the standings (based on a Games Behind calculation), the following system will be used to break the tie and determine playoff seedings:

1. Overall winning percentage.
2. Fantasy points scored (if your league is a Head-to-Head Points league).
3. Highest winning percentage in Week 25.

Judy ALMOST knocked Mudville9 out of that #6 playoff slot, but he was able to tie-up their matchup right at the end, and was able to claim the spot. He was behind 1-8-1 for quite awhile.

A very exciting finish! Now we'll see if anyone can knock of the greggoromans.

Mudville ties again, but loses the tiebreaker this time.

In the event that a playoff game ends in a tie, the deadlock will be broken using the following system:
Winning percentage against this opponent during the regular season. (Islanders 16-11).

Bring on the Taxman! I won't need that stinkin' tiebreaker (Taxman owns that one 12-7)

I guess I did that stinkin' tiebreaker after all ...

Good luck to GreggoRomans and Taxman in the finals!

greggoromans had me for any conceivable tiebreaker, thanks to the dominant season. I didn't deserve to win, but I was hoping that Sale would get into the Sox game and pick up a win or save last night. A Mo Rivera save has me moving on, but there are lots of those scenarios, I suppose.

Taxman got a late save from Aardsma, which gave him the category. He had the tiebreaker in a 5-5 tie.

Sure I'm sitting there watching the game on TV, and always enjoy watching a Mariner victory ... but this one stung a little bit.

Again Mo Rivera screws me. He nails down that save I tie in wins (Hughes gets the win) and win saves, turning it 5-4 me. Never though Rivera would be the reason my season ended so poorly. But, like I said before, we all have these scenarios, just didn't see it happening 2 Sunday's in a row.

At least I didn't lose to Kokeshi's (like I did in the regular season). Nothing more infuriating than losing to a non-existent manager.

Oh yeah, congrats to Greggo Romans. Hard to defend a title, but you deserved it with a very dominant season. Won the NL league too...I need to pay more attention to your drafts so I know who to draft in my other leagues!

Great job on the repeat greggoromans.

Finished second in NL-only via tiebreaker

And qualified for the RIBC AAA next year

Nice fantasy season on all fronts, well done!

Wow. Guess I need to read the fine print better. I didn't realize the last matchup was 2 weeks. Stopped managing after the first week. Shows what I know.

Well, congrats, again, to Greggo Romans. Great season.

I had a bye week that I didn't know about and didn't realize until the following Tuesday that I had a match up that week.

Playoff weeks are a little tricky and you have to check every week. Now that I know about the nuances, I'll be ready next year. Not that it made a difference this year :P
