RIBC AAA PCL Managers: This thread is for your (optional) overall comments on the draft. You may use the
questions below as a guide, or simply say what you want to say.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

2. What were your favorite picks? What picks would you like to do over?

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

5. If you could start the whole thing over, would you do anything differently?

Non-managers are also free to post comments or ask questions.

that consoldated draft results feed is very interesting. makes me with there was 10 teams for more comparison!

i thought my picks relative to the others had an interesting trend, all of my hitters were before average position but after the first pick (except Rolen who i reached for in the 11th round). all my pitchers were after average postion and were often the 5th taken.

i thought it also showed the depth of 2nd base at the lower end of the draft as a bunch of them are the first players in terms of average that were not picked by 5 teams.

i thought it was funny that cesar isturis was taken in the 14th round in one draft but not at all in the other 4!.

just some thoughts...

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

Other than drafting Mauer, I didn't have a plan. I drafted Mauer at 1.09.

2. What were your favorite picks? What picks would you like to do over?

My favorite picks were Reyes at 5.09 and Abreu at 6.08. Both much later than expected. Wish I had drafted Tejada 8.08 and Kennedy 12.08 later than I did.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

DaBomb and graydog16 based on a cursory review

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

The early run on closers.

5. If you could start the whole thing over, would you do anything differently?

I'd draft another closer early on...lets say round 8 when I took Tejada.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?
Strategy is generally to take best available for the first 5 or 6 rounds and then go after positions. Don't reach for MI, get pitching before the runs start, and go heavy on RP late. I pretty much did all of that. This year also I was targeting a 3B early, as their are great ones in the top 5 then it drops off severely.

2. What were your favorite picks? What picks would you like to do over?

I really like Jimenez at 8, and Sanchez at 14. Hitting was kind of meh for me and I ended up with alot of risk/reward players. Cust is obviously one I would have liked to do over as I had to release him today. Stupid freakin' A's!

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

I haven't really looked over the other teams yet to see who's got what, but I do know the guy at pick 11 took my targets more than once, right before or right after me. The biggest of those being David Wright. If I had gotten him, it would have changed my entire draft.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

Closers lasted longer than usual. I managed to get 3 this year and hoping they stay together all season. Ive been doing this drat long enough to know how things go. I think it was pretty much the same.

5. If you could start the whole thing over, would you do anything differently?

Get a better random draft slot? I hated having the 12th pick - too close to the end, but not close enough to know you could get your targets in pairs. I was drafting defensively all the way up to the 15th round, and it got better after that, but I hate drafting that way I want to try to stay ahead of the game. Cust is a bad pick now in hindsight but at the time it was solid. My OF is looking pretty scary right now outside of Sizemore. My pitching looks great and will again be my strength. I couldnt have had a better pitching staff last year - maybe the best in AAA ever. But my hitting failed me and this year my hitting is very risk/reward. They could all get hurt and drag me down, or they can all stay healthy/productive and get me into the top 3. We'll see how it plays out!

I'll get back to filling this out...but wanted to congratulate Coldwater on a near perfect draft (we had our collective rears handed too us). I predict CC wins our league by 20+ points over the second place team. More later.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned? My plan this year was to focus on OB% and SLUG% with no pitchers taken before Round 6. I didn't execute my plan all that well. By choosing the #2 draft slot, I locked myself into SS Ramiriz and then on the 31st pick I reached for Dunn who is pulling an Ortiz this year. The plan delivered the other two Ramiriz boys, Aramis and Manny, plus Victor Martinez and Matsui. 1st pitcher arrived at pick 7 (Hanson) allowing focus on offense at top of draft.

2. What were your favorite picks? What picks would you like to do over? Favorite picks were DH Matsui in 15th (should qualify as OF by May 1st), CL Madson in 16th and SP Hanson in 7th. For do-overs..that would be Dunn. Still on the boards were Jack of all trades Zobrist, IB Morneau and 3B Zimmerman. Truth is I took Dunn for flexibility before realizing he has suffered a power outage this spring/early season.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)? I thinkColdwater should walk off with the league. He s/b top 6 in all H cats and top 3 in S, ERA and WHIP; maspro could challenge with great (top 6) pitching in all categories and if his offense overchieves; and dror who also his great pitching (except for W) and top 7 or better in H categories.

4. What surprised you most about the draft? That 8 SP went in the first 50 picks and that value picks were available late in the draft (example Coldwater took Feldman, Texas #1 SP in last round).

5. If you could start the whole thing over, would you do anything differently? I would pick a later draft slot..5th or 6th to avoid being forced to take Hanley with 2nd pick.

Final note...great job Judy!
