16.03 Edwin Jackson, SP, CWS
Second choice to James Shields (15.07) from off my list of starters for this pick. Part of the diaspora of Tampa Bay pitching prospects that is spreading around the league. Seemed to "get it" when traded to the Pale House from Arizona. Open to question whether the cutter the Sox taught him really made the difference or not, but he had the lowest imputed ERA of his career and the highest K/9 rate. Possible breakout candidate. Wish he was in another park.
17.14 Sergio Romo, RP, SF
About time to consider set-up men who became closers, and I woke up and saw the news that Brian Wilson might not be ready to start the season, Romo would be the likely stand-in. Should contribute top class K/9 and WHIP while not closing.
18.03 Lyle Overbay, UT, Pit
Being considered as the Pirate cleanup hitter at the time I drafted him; historically underrated in SLG leagues as a doubles hitter. Despite age, I like him to rebound in AVG which will make him in asset in both average stats, and will bat in runs if hitting 4th or 5th.
19.14 Tim Stauffer, P, SD
Always hard to tell when to pick a "sleeper" pick. Pick him too high and he's not a value pick any more; wait too long and he becomes someone else's sleeper pick. With this bunch I decided not to wait any longer. The "injury" that limited him last year was an appendectomy; having had one I know it takes a while to regain strength. As a starter he had a 1.83 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. I don't expect anything like that, but, hey, he's pitching in Petco; how hard can that be? Has sore hip flexor at time of drafting but I expect him to make the rotation anyway.
20.03 Tyler Clippard, RP, Was
Reading that Storen isn't doing that well and might even be sent down to AAA. Indeed Rotowire (that supposedly great source) already has Clippard listed as the closer. Clippard isn't pitching that well, either, but he has always pitched well in the past (totally ignoring that fluke win streak last year) and should put up good numbers in the cavernous park, be the closer sometime during the season. Storen is the long term, but this isn't a keeper league.

16.07 Erik Bedard SP Sea Here is a guy who was a round 2 pick and top3 fantasy pitcher in RIBC in 2008 after coming off a terrific walk year. Unfortunately, he signed with Seattle, the free agent black hole of the 21st century. The two ensuing seasons with the Ms he only started 15 games in each, but put up terriffic fantasy numbers. Unfortunately injuries had him miss half of those first two seasons and then all of '10. Who knows what '11 will bring? His limited spring work earned him a rotation slot and if healty, this can be a great pick up.
17.10 Jason Bartlett SS SD Still need a SS. Picking a thin position like shortstop in the seventeenth round where 17 have gone off the board already does not leave much. Bartlett shouldn't hurt the OBP and can swipe 15-20 bags.
18.07 Seth Smith OF Col My projections show me real light in SB and I was considering Will Venable (18.14) here who I had last year. But more importantly since I'm going to be real light on steals as it is looking right now regardless, wanted to solidify the four other offensive categories more which Smith should do. 19.07 Jon Rauch RP Tor Since most of the good WHIP/K RP jumped off the board while I filled out my starting offense the last couple of rounds, I saw that Rauch is going to at least open the season as the Jays closer as the folks ahead of him on the depth chart are still hurt. Figure I'll ride a few extra saves with Rauch while those guys are healing.
20.10 Rafael Betancourt RP Col Nothing exciting to say here. Just grabbing a middle reliever in the annual late round RP crapshoot to help my ratios and strikeout per inning percentages if I am lucky. Most of the better middle relievers for that purpose are already off the board.

16.06 Aroldis Chapman RP CIN With only 3 SP and 2 RP so far, I wanted to add some pitching with this pick. I would have preferred a SP, but none stood out. Chapman will get plenty of strikeouts with his 100MPH fastball. I expect him to excel in a setup role, and there is chance he will be the closer if Cordero struggles.
17.11 Carlos Ruiz C PHI I still needed a catcher, and I thought Ruiz was significantly better than the other catchers left. Chooch became a fan favorite with his clutch hitting last season. He is a streaky hitter and usually struggles in the first half of the season. I have to remember to be patient with him.
18.06 Edison Volquez SP CIN I was looking for a SP with this pick because I only had 3 and like to carry at least 5 on my roster. I can usually find and like to pick some pitchers with potential in this part of the draft. Volquez will always get a lot of strikeouts, but has a control problem.
19.11 J.A. Happ SP HOU Still looking for starting pitching. Over the last two years, Happ has pitched well and won games when given the chance to be a starter. With his job as starter secure for the first time, I expect a slight improvement in his stats.
20.06 Juan Uribe 2B,3B,SS LAD Uribe adds depth to my team at middle and corner infield. He is slated to start as 2B for the Dodgers. He puts up decent stats for a middle infielder.

16.11 Jake McGee RP TAM Still need some more pitching to round out my staff. I will go with some RPs here...the Rays is going for closer by committee (at least in the beginning of the season). Hence, Going to pick the one that has the best chance of break out and become their full time closer.
17.06 Chase Headley 3B SDG Headley should be a good backup for my corners.
18.11 Kyle Farnsworth RP TAM If McGee didn't work out...
19.06 Jason Motte RP STL Ryan Franklin has been proving people wrong for a few years now. If people finally get this right, the team's "closer for future" will be next in line for some saves.
20.11 Ryan Ludwick OF SDG Projected cleanup hitter for the Padres... should still be good for some counting stats.

16.12 Brett Myers SP HOU With these next two picks I am looking for K’s, plain and simple. Myers has been named the Opening Day Starter, unfortunately for me, it is against the Phillies and I need to hope for him to lose. 1 - 0 would work fine. I’ll take 160+ K’s over the season and if he can keep his ERA below 3.75 with a WHIP of 1.28, that’ll work.
17.05 Brian Matusz SP BAL Again, looking for K’s. If his figures match what I am hoping for from Myers, I should be in decent shape. I now have 5 starters who are projected for a total of around 870 K’s, 15 wins each, an average (2 sites) ERA of 3.55 and a WHIP of 1.26. I’ll take that.
18.12 Wilson Valdez SS PHL I keep forgetting that Valdez’s value is his defense! With Utley on the DL to begin the season (it’s official), he will see a lot of playing time from the get go and maybe he will do well. What was I thinking here?? Francisco would have been a better option.
19.05 Lorenzo Cain OF KC This guy is the future CF for KC -- one of the young ‘un’s expecting to be reaching for the big prize by 2015! His major asset is speed to burn, so I am expecting 40 SB from him, assuming that he can get on base! He should get 1.5 times as many AB this season assuming he is not a bust.
20.12 Cody Ross OF SF Ah, one of the heroes of the WS still not wanted by any one but me... He is a five tool player, just at a more modest level than CarGO -- by a lot! He’ll see action in matchups or in case of injury.

16.08 Chris Iannetta, C COL I've been waiting for this guy to break out for a few years. Last year he lost his starting spot only because a guy with a career .290 OBP had a career first half. Iannetta now has the starting job, and I believe this will be his year.
17.09 Matt Joyce, OF TB This was the start of my vacation time, and I was just queueing up players from a master list and hoping that they would last. Joyce is a good player, and the value of this pick comes down to how much playing time he gets. If he starts 120 games, this is a great pick. Anything less than 100 and it's not so hot.
18.08 Luke Gregerson, RP SD I pegged this round to get my first non-closer RP, and fortunately I got in on the tail end of the elites. Gregerson was outstanding last year, and I see no reason why he will not be this season either.
19.09 Chris Johnson, 3B HOU Hitters were flying off the board fast and furious, and I found my queues drained much faster than I had anticipated. Johnson really wasn't on my radar screen - I had actually wanted Encarnacion for my CI, but he was taken a few picks before my 17th. Johnson will never have a high OBP, so I can only hope that he can keep hitting like he did last season. He certainly is set up for success in Houston, being in the middle of their batting order.
20.08 Koji Uehara, RP BAL This was a nice pick here. A guy who excelled in the closer role a year ago, and would likely be the first in line if Gregg fails. His value for me is in RP, so if he gets moved back to starting he would probably be useless.

16. 14 Brandon League, RP, Sea
League is the closer for at least April, and since there is no set return date for Aardsma yet, it could be longer.
17.03 Freddie Freeman, 1B, Atl
Set to be the everyday 1B in Atlanta after being one of the top hitting prospects in their system. Hopefully he keeps his head above the water with his first job in the bigs.
18.14 Will Venable, OF, SD
He's had a very good spring and should be another guy who can contribute steals without killing SLG%. He's also slated to be the leadoff guy in San Diego.
19.03 Alfonso Soriano, OF, ChC
Only 5 years removed from a 40/40 season so I'm preparing for a bounceback to that level. Well, not so much but he did have an OPS over .800 last year while playing in 147 games so if he can repeat that I'll be satisfied.
20.14 Brandon Webb, SP, Tex
Just a lottery ticket. Reading he's now expected back in early May which I may not have the patience to wait for.

I grabbed a SS two rounds earlier, already had a second baseman, but like with my Gaby pick for CI, we do need a MI. And it's getting late, so I added 16.10 Cliff Pennington SS Oak. My reliable source from the Bay area assures me there is no one pressing Cliff for playing time. He won't hit much, but should play everyday, and can steal bases ( 29 last season ). MY highest OF on the board was 17.07 Chris Coghlan OF Fla. Chris went from 2009 Rookie of the Year, to a major disappointment in 2010. He was injured a good portion of spring training, but seems OK now and should lead off for the Marlins
I wanted to add to my starters and staring at me from the top of my queue was 18.10 John Lackey SP Bos. I don't think Lackey gave the Red Sox what they expected last year, so maybe this is the year. If nothing else he should generate a nice win total and K a few for me.
We need to supplement our pitchers with some set up type guys, maybe closers in waiting and I think 19.07 Evan Meek RP Pit is just the guy for me. Hanrahan is no doubt the number 1 guy for the Pirates, but he could be traded, or just plain stink, and Evan appears to be next in line
20.10 Michael Brantley OF Cle. I really wanted Maybin with this pick, reeb took him and panic set in. I had Brantley all queue up, but when it came time to hit the select button, I broke out in a cold sweat. Anyway I forged on, grabbed Brantley, who should start for Cle, maybe steal a few bases and who know what else

16.05 Jaime Garcia (SP, StL) - He had a solid rookie season last year, with a 13-8 record, and nice K/9 numbers. He has a solid job in St Louis, so if he can limit his BBs allowed, Garcia is a nice player with upside.
17.12 Franklin Gutierrez (OF, SEA) - Safeco Field is a big park, and Guti plays some amazing defense, winning a GoldGlove last season. If only defense was a category. But SBs are, and he should get me 20-30 of them.
18.05 Alexi Ogando (RP, TEX) - There aren’t any closers left … just guys that might get an occasional save. But as we get later into the draft, the status of Texas closer Feliz is more and more up into the air, and it really looks like he might become a starter. If that happens - Texas needs a closer. So in a crapshoot of who might be that new closer, I pick Ogando … who has nice K/9 numbers. Late add - In an odd twist, Feliz remains the closer, and Ogando is now in the rotation
19.12 Bud Norris (SP, HOU) Hopefully he’ll be an inning eater with solid K/9 numbers, and a mini-breakout candidate. And I just like guys named ‘Bud’.
20.05 Danny Valencia (3B, MIN) There are fewer and fewer players that will start the season with a full time job. It looks like Valencia is one of them … and at a shallow position as well. He’ll hopefully only serve as a backup at 3B and CI for me.
