Use the thread to discuss the draft or other items of interest or whatever. Be sure not to mention any undrafted players. |

So can I say, "this draft is slower than Sid Bream" or should I say "{undrafted}"? :)

Ahem,
clearly you were not there when Sid scored from first on Cabrera's line drive to left (Bonds rubber arm) off of Stan Belinda (each batted ball got closer and closer to the field of play -- you knew it was coming...)
what a crushing blow from which PIT has yet to recover...
Have you seen the mag AD which asks Andrew Jones "where were you when Sid slid?" (on a minor league bus...)

I used the term "faster than Cecil Fielder" in this thread. And I know the original reference was Keith Hernandez, but I can't place it.
I just ran some projections, and it looks like I am in first place.

I'd look to trade down out of my 1.15 pick if anyone has a mix of 2nd, 3rd round type picks to offer. I have a dr. appt at 3 and will be home around 5 to check on any offers. Not sure what Toral's timeframe is.

This league is very good looking thats for sure. And thats even with a blue hen pulling us down :)
Ya know... since i live on the blue hen delaware campus now can i hijack BH's handle? Or should i go by Great Hen or Blue One? That might cause my team to sink like a Stone Balloon though...

I may hold things up a little tomorrow - will be on the road tomorrow morning at 6am for a 5 1/2 hour drive and then will be attending a memorial service for a friend who unexpectedly passed away last week. I'll at least have a queue set up for one round -- if we get to me in the 5th before I leave, I should be able to get to an internet connection not soon after my pick in the 7th.

RIBC has such a deep starting core that both cuddy and young will do well. They were just drafted a bit early for the wrong positions... but they will find their starting spots without any problem...

We don't have a clock in this league. However, several people average over an hour for their picks. Please consider setting up queues or designated pickers.

I was going to keep my mouth shut, but I'll be damned if I'm go to do an entire draft by queues.
1st Pick 15 min 2nd Pick 36 min 3rd Pick 0 min - queue 4th Pick 0 min - queue 5th Pick 0 min - queue 6th Pick 1 Hr 53 min 7th Pick 7 Hr 59 min From 1:24 AM to 9:23 AM - Clock would have been stopped for most of it. 8th Pick 0 Min 9th Pick 0 Min
So, one long window in the middle of the nite runs the time up.

That was sloppy research, Goat. No one is upset with you, you have been one of the only guys who gives a heads up when you are going to be unavailable, and by the looks of your list, you never hold us up.
I'm not complaining that the draft is taking too long, my complaint is that this is the third straight day where it looks like I won't get to make a pick during the day. There are five teams with picks ahead of me and the draft always grinds to a halt at this point without explanation.
Daylight savings kicked my ass, so I'm not waiting up anymore. I'm leaving a two man queue and if it is depleted tonight, well, I'm going to get my breakfast and coffee before I make a pick tomorrow morning.

For goldcoach (copy/pasted from the yahoo league rationale thread...its odd seeing somebody give a raionale for a player I drafted...took me a moment.)
6.05 Drew Storen, RP, WAS I’ve learned that the adage of not picking closers until late works well in 10 team leagues, but when your dealing with 16 teams and savvy managers you don’t have that luxury. I like Storen, still young and strong, Washington has the potential for lots of wins so he seems to be a good choice. I wanted to wait till round seven but I thought I had best grab him now.
7.12 Matt Wieters, C, BAL He has quietly put up good numbers for a couple of years; no longer a prospect but still young. I just have a feeling this will be the year he gets it all going. Even if he doesn’t I’ll take his last years stats and be content, if he does he may be quite a steal at pick #108.
8.05 Chris Carpenter, SP, STL Carpenter (from Boston) came off my queue while I slept. Nice catch Judy! It was the St Louis Carpenter I was intending to draft. Solid, with good control I anticipate another year of consistency for Chris and am happy to have him as a companion to Verlander on my staff.
9.12 Michael Pineda, SP, NYY This one surprised me a bit. I now have selected 4 count ‘em 1,2,3,4 pitchers in the first 9 rounds. I really didn’t expect him to still be on the boards at this point, but when he kept getting closer I began to think if I got him I had a good chance to do well in some pitching categories which will help offset my lack of power so I put him at the top of the queue and WOW! Here he is. Between Pineda, Verlander, and Carpenter I hope to get close to 45 Wins, 550 Ks, with serviceable ERA and WHIP. Its funny haw a draft takes shape but with each pick since I drafted Bourn in round 4, I’m feeling better and better about my chances this year.
10.05 Alexei Ramirez, SS, CWS Consistency is the order of the day here. Nothing spectacular but no holes either. This was a fill the position, don’t get hurt, and prepare for the next round selection.

wow, woke up to see it was my turn!!!!! Yipes.
Had a list, sort of, changed it, double checked it, changed position, changed order several times, finally went for the homer pick (because after next round TD gets in the way and Toral too)...might not be the right one, but I think he will break out this year and get at least 500 AB at LF and 1B (with Ryan out)...padding his predicted stats ... Whatever... So now next pick is in the 1:30 window...
Time for breakfast...

Here are some rationales...
8.16 Cameron Maybin To quote Top Gun, "I feel the need for speed."
9.1 Jemile Weeks To quote Top Gun, "I feel the need for speed... from a middle infielder."
10.16 Sergio Santos This is looking like my best pick of the draft. Soon after this pick, a massive closer run started. At least I got the guy I wanted, and now have three pretty solid closers.
11.1 Lucas Duda I've been eying Duda for years, and he finally broke out last season. He looks to be healthy, which is something I need on this team, with pretty stable stats on a pitiful Mets team.
12.16 Colby Rasmus The "experts" have been high on this guy for years. The projections don't love him, but he seems like a real breakout candidate sooner or later.
13.1 Neftali Feliz Would it surprise you to see Joe Nathan flame out and Feliz inserted into the closer role in Texas? Either way, I think he'll have some good stats and some strikeouts whether as a starter or reliever.

Please follow the directions and put the rationales in the correct thread where they belong. They are in groups of #1-5, 6-10, etc.
Also do not post rationales for rounds that are not yet listed in the thread. Rationales follow two rounds after the current round. We are currently on round 13, so not only are your rationales arranged improperly, they are also in violation of the rationales guides about when to post.
I will send an email out when a new rationale thread is open for business.
Thanks for your cooperation!

Sorry about the huge delay - I went to sleep at about 7am eastern time assuming that since Judy wasn't able to pick until 1:30 it would take a while to get back to me (and setting a 15 player queue was somewhat out of the question). I was surprised to find out we had 14 picks in the next 3 hours!

mmikulka - Do you live in Vanuatu? American Samoa? :)
At this point of the draft, even if your pick is 15 away, leaving a two or even just a one man queue on auto-pick may do the trick. If your guy is still there, no delay.

Nope - I'm only an hour behind, but for this week I'm also living in "Spring Break", so my sleep schedule is another 4 hours behind.
Your premise would have actually worked if I used a 2-player queue, so I'll make a point to do the queue/autopick if a similar situation happens.

My bad -- I had no idea the last 24 hours would go so fast and I did not expect to be ready, but before I went to bed I made three tentative lists depending upon which position I wanted to target depending upon who took what before me, so I could pick at 1:30 and then oops it was my turn...at 7:30 am! And the less than a hour later I had to pick again... And then wait.

When I look over my roster, I like to see how many of my players have 100% ownership. So far it is 11 of them with Capps at 98.2 (I guess someone thinks he'll be valuable...).
My lowest are: Rex Brothers RP 0.1 (they obviously don't know he is the future closer...maybe mid season even...) Tyler Green 2B 0.2 (STL has NO CLUE who is going to play 2B...) Uehara RP 0.4 (good for K, era and whip guys...) O'Flaherty RP 0.8 (what can I say, I have one closer, need low era and whip, higher K) Iannetta 1.3 (he's my off day sub for suzuki -- or the first guy I dump) Bastardo 1.4 (ya gotta be a Philly Phan to know his value, will garbage a few saves from Pappy...)
Anybody else want to chime in about this type of stuff??

for comparison: 12 of my players have 100% + Matt Joyce at 99.7%
my darkest horses are Brandon Allen and Andres Torres with 0.8 % and Miguel Olivo at 0.9% ownership.
This ownership means nothing because it does not take into account the various different stat categories, league size, roster positions and roster size. in a league with a decent size all already named closers should be gone but there are only 21 at 100%. catcher is even worse with only 9 at 100%. this pretty much shows that most leagues have a size of 10 or 12.

Joel Peralta (0.6%) David DeJesus (1.4%) (a little surprised he's so low) Alfredo Aceves (2.0%) Erik Bedard (4.5%) (a little surprised he's so high)

rule question: who is charged with how many earned runs?
- W. Betemit grounded out to first - M. Wieters hit for R. Paulino - M. Wieters singled to shallow left center - R. Andino singled to shallow left, M. Wieters to second - S. Downs relieved D. Haren - E. Chavez singled to shallow center, M. Wieters to third, R. Andino to second - J.J. Hardy grounded into fielder's choice, M. Wieters out at home, R. Andino to third, E. Chavez to second - N. Markakis singled to shallow left, R. Andino and E. Chavez scored, J.J. Hardy to third - A. Jones lined out to third
Haren lets 2 man on base. one of them gets thrown out later and he still gets charged for 2 earned runs. why?

Rule 10.16: g) When pitchers are changed during an inning, the official scorer shall not charge the relief pitcher with any run (earned or unearned) scored by a runner who was on base at the time such relief pitcher entered the game, nor for runs scored by any runner who reaches base on a fielder's choice that puts out a runner left on base by any preceding pitcher.
Rule 10.16(g) Comment: It is the intent of Rule 10.16(g) to charge each pitcher with the number of runners he put on base, rather than with the individual runners. When a pitcher puts runners on base and is relieved, such pitcher shall be charged with all runs subsequently scored up to and including the number of runners such pitcher left on base when such pitcher left the game, unless such runners are put out without action by the batter (i.e., caught stealing, picked off base or called out for interference when a batter-runner does not reach first base on the play).

Big bucks, no whammies, big bucks, no whammies, STOP! Woo Hoo! Season is over and I WON! Wow, it’s great to reach my goal of winning the PCL, man, this trophy is heavier than I thought! Look at that, the two guys who had to get on the wait list to even get a chance this year finished one/two. This sure beats 10th and 11th, eh, Toral? What a wild ride, at one point a few days into the season I looked at the standings and I had 36 points and was in dead last, thankfully the rest of the evening wasn’t as bad!
Who to thank? Well, there are so many. The list certainly does not contain Scott Baker or Brian the Beard. It contains many late round surprising stars: Adam LaRoche, Jose Altuve, and John Rauch all contributed. Jake Westbrook and Russ Detweiler joined the team half way through the season with a chip on their shoulder and they proved the naysayers wrong. Just six weeks ago I was lamenting my stupidity in thinking Michael Cuddyer qualified at second base. Now look at him, crushing the ball as my first baseman and opening up second base for my Kipnis and Altuve youngsters.
I think at this time I should thank all of the players who have injured themselves or their teams, I’m looking at you Albert Pujols, Adam Wainwright and Jair Jurrjens. Your streaks of horrendous play have decimated your owners’ ratios and thanks to this short season, you did not get the opportunity to warm up and regress to the mean!
But most of all, I’d like to thank the Rules Committee for their wisdom to let me decide when the season is over. That stoke of genius is what has let me make this wonderful speech and will allow all of us to watch the rest of the season just for the love of the game!

133 Yea, Zen, it is nice to get off to a good start, unlike last year. (Actually, I wasn't on the wait list...I was in such a position most of the year, but made my usual late charge to get up to be an automatic qualifier. But I was in 10th or so most of the year.) I feel like I've moved up into a higher social class. (Watch me sink to the bottom now.)
LaRoche was indeed a superb value pick. proven hitter, batting cleanup...can't be left sitting undrafted forever.
It's just as well fell out of the lead. I was making bad player moves, choking under the pressure. Now I can sit back and "stalk", as horse riders say.
I have a feeling that Utley's rehabbing is going to last all year long, punctuated by occasional assertions that he 'should be back soon'. Will serve me right.

I know that we are a bunch a well educated, polite white men and women who find it unseemly or uncomfortable to brag. That's why through the years the various RIBC in-season threads are usually a long list of people bemoaning their poor luck and the injury status of their top players.
I'm going to break from tradition and rudely state (with PRIDE) that I am thoroughly enjoying my thirty point lead at the top. Baseball gods, take note :)

It obviously isn't a very good league if Zen is winning it. Case in point - I am near the top as well.
Looking for a corner infielder (preferably 1st base). I can offer a lot of pieces in return: - An outfielder like Mike Trout, Cameron Maybin, Colby Rasmus, or even Carl Crawford if you're feeling lucky. - A starting pitcher like Ryan Dempster, Colby Lewis, or the soon to be healthy Neftali Feliz, Daniel Hudson, or Brandon McCarthy. - A superstar closer. I have Craig Kimbrel and Jonathan Papelbon. Would also move Rafael Dolis. - Carlos Ruiz, if you are Judy.

I'm looking to trade starting pitching for relievers or hitter upgrades. Really looking to move four guys, most of whom are healthy (or getting there):
- Brandon McCarthy - Ryan Dempster - Neftali Feliz - Colby Lewis

Aceves had a couple bad games in there, but overall, I'm pretty happy.
Looks like Brandon McCarthy is coming back this weekend, so you can add him to the healthy (and available) pile.

I'd be happy too if I sold a closer who pitches like 30 more innings this year for an everyday 1st round slugger. His OPS is like 1.100 since you got him as I predicted.
Meanwhile Kimbrel has thrown 5 really good innings. Ric Flair woooo.....

McCarthy with a real good game, so he appears to be back. And certainly available - get those offers coming.

It has been a happy Father's Day. My family let me sleep in until 11am, which was great but caused me to not switch my lineup in time to get LaRoach back in, missing his homer. I'll never know if that mistake costs me on the last day unlike regular leagues that count homers.
Let's go Heat!!!

Definitely bought low on Lee and sold high on Hammel - no way they both stay on their current course.
For me - I'd rather have Lee's 100 IP the rest of the way - much more valuable than another 30 good ones from Kenley. Its all about volume.

2012 was to be the last year of the world series window for the 2008 team before a turnover would be needed. But the injuries have just been too much -- and the underperformance of the aging stars. Sadly there is not much on the farm... I suspect the 2013 starting lineup will be Howard, Utley, Rollins, 3B?, LF?, (though Pierre has done what he is supposed to be able to do -- a real professional but not a star to count on, and old to boot.), CF?, Pence, Ruiz. SP: Halladay, Lee, Worley, RP: Papelbon. Would like to find a place for Galvis (3B?)

TD - the prospects are single A -- long time to get to the bigs if ever. We gave him away, although Balt took on his entire salary. It is a a good move for "Gentleman Jim."
Too bad there is no DL in the NL -- as much as I hate it, it does handicap the NL teams...that's why Fielder and Pujols went to the AL -- to prolong their careers.
GO - then move Utley to LF and Galvis to 2B and somewhere find a power hitting 3B...
The trading deadline moves for the Phillies, if any, will be very interesting. I do not however, see this team winning very much going forth in 2012.

GO -- I agree although they thought he might be able to fill in at 1B 1-2 days a week until Howard returned, but it was not to be. Once his back went out again, he was only good for inter league away games where he did really well. I think he will do well with the O's. He is batting fifth for them today.

Hey Zen - I said "parachute" not "anvil".
And Lind Sanity - 74 moves and 12th place? Maybe you need to complete your pitching staff.
Team JL and Philliephan Jr, were you guys planning on not sucking by chance, or were you planning to make a move this decade?
And Toral, I know you need hitting, but I don't think Mike McKenry, Chris Heisey, and Casper Wells are the answer. Granted, when I see your lineup, I can see why you might want them. Too bad about Axford.
Finally, Dahlonega. Yeah, you're not doing much of anything well. Don't worry about it - there's always next year.

I was going to do it sooner or later, and today fit well - Hanson and Morrow going, and several good options on waivers. I was only 6 innings under the limit, so really couldn't have gotten any more starts, and one or two more saves wouldn't help.
Honestly, I spent far too much time playing around with the wrong pitchers early in the season, otherwise, this might be moot.

Speech! Speech! Speech!
Well, ok. Since you asked for it, I can accommodate your request.
Here's how to win your RIBC league: draft Miguel Cabrera, Josh Hamilton, and Mike Trout.
But seriously, this is my first RIBC-type league victory in my 9th season. To win a league like this, you have to be extremely lucky. I happened to get Cabrera and Hamilton with my first two picks; it could have been Troy Tulowitzki and Justin Upton. Or somewhere in between, like Matt Kemp and Jose Bautista. But I happened to get those two guys.
Coming out of the draft, I had thought starting pitching would be my downfall. After all, I took hitters in the early rounds and then took the two top closers before anyone else had closers. My pitching staff was led by Daniel Hudson, who had a terrible year and then got shut down. Luckily, many of my late-round SP gambles worked out: Ryan Dempster, Colby Lewis, and Matt Harrison led my team in innings, and each of the three was spectacular, keeping me in on the starting pitchers.
I also took good gambles on hitters, getting Carlos Ruiz, Alcides Escobar, and Cameron Maybin to perform at high levels.
As we all know, you can't win your league at the draft, and I aggressively managed my team all season, and got key contributions from Glen Perkins, Chris Nelson, Pedro Alvarez, and Mark Teixeira, none of whom began the season on my team. I led the league in moves (237); shame on JL and Philliephan Jr. for making fewer than 10 moves each. Have fun in Double-A next year.
And finally, I drafted Mike Trout. Everyone had a chance to draft him earlier - even me, as I took Trout two rounds after Tyler Pastornicky. I'm sure the people who took Michael Stutes and Eric O'Flaherty several picks before Trout are regretting it. But by not being afraid to draft someone in the minors with high potential (I also drafted Trevor Bauer), I wound up with a superstar.
Congrats to the other high finishers, particularly Foot's Minions, who worked hard to take over 2nd place on the last day of the season. Not looking forward to you taking all my players next year in Majors.
Fantasy Baseball is a fun game, but it's hard to play in a league by yourself, so here's a big thanks to everyone in RIBC AAA PCL, and to everyone else at Rotoguru that makes this so fun. If you're ever in my neighborhood, let me know; the first drink's on me.

Congrats to Bluehen. A highly impressive performance.
For me, no more drafting of old players. or injury-prone players. Or old injury-prone players. Or Phillies.
The key to those few good pix I made is clear -- have Seattle Zen dis them (Dickey, Headley)
I spent an enormous amount of energy on my September change and finally did achieve my minimum goal -- moving from 11th to 9th. Not going to get me into the Rotoguru Hall of Fame for sure.

So how did that Cliff Lee trade shake out? I think he had a pretty good finish... :0

Curious that you left off Ackley.

Why? He wasn't a good pick.
Curious that you have this prejudice against players whose names end in "ey". I'm not one to accuse others of ethnocentrism myself.

When i drafted Pedro Alvarez I got a note from BH that was something like "Pedro in the 15th?!" and I wasn't sure if that was a compliment or he thought it was a bad pick. I'm still not sure.

Well did you think Pedro in the 19th round was a good pick or bad at the time? was Pedro a deep sleeper for you during draft season?

I don't really remember. I think I even dropped him a couple times after I picked him up, so he was certainly waiver fodder at some point.
I also have a bias against him for killing my team in a previous year.

I dissed Ackley, too. Yes, you caught me red handed, can't stand "ey"s.
Willie Mays, yes
Mickey Mantle, no
Charlie Hustle, yes
Whitey, hell no, down with Whitey!

"-ey" is Scots-Irish. You just don't like them. No problem,. No one is required to like any other group. Perhaps they (we) discriminated against your group in the past.
