In order to get going on the actual draft, we are going to skip the process of having managers individually select their draft order. Instead, I am going to use a random draw to assign the draft order for this league. I'll do this in a moment, and post the results here.

Roger has been up for awhile. His queue is very full but it is not available. As Commish I could select the player at the top of the queue and probably would later in the draft. But as it's the 1st round we'll wait for him.

with the first 3-5 picks you really can't go wrong, but there could be different positions/strategies to choose from still. No problem with not forcing his pick but maybe we should start a 4 hour clock soon?

If the comssioner was not planning to do so, I would like to volunteer to load players into rosters on Yahoo as they are drafted. This will allow us to use sortable stats on Yahoo to help with our selections. Already drafted players would be removed. I would never be more than one round behind, which is still a pretty good draft tool. I'll need commish until draft is over.

Looking at the draft board, and waiting for Roger, there are 5 guys who haven't loaded their queue. The key to completing the draft in a reasonable period is everyone using the queue. Note that for it to be useful it has to be made 'available' with an option of having a timed delay before the pick is automatically made or made by a designated picker.

Mike..commish,

This is pretty bad. Went a whole day and I don't even get to make a pick. If we want to finish before the season starts we need people to start paying attention.
If you know you'll be gone for a while, set a que. Add some designated pickers. You can set it so they can only see the top person in your que. If you don't want to do even that, you can set a que for a specific round.

We really, really need a shorter clock. 3 or 4 hours. I don't tbink I've ever done a 3 hour clock but it may be whats needed to get us thru this. After the draft we need time for players to be entered, need the season started in yahoo. Time to look over rosters. A few days to consider any trades is always nice.
I'm looking forward to this season and would love to have an active, competitive league in AA.

I think a shorter clock isn't necessarily the answer. I believe the use of the queue is what we need. For example I have used a queue every time but after an 18 hour shift I timed out. The shorter clock would have buried me when I have used a queue for every pick

When you start going 30-40 hours without a pick it gets harder and harder to leave queues and care about what is not going on. Procrastination definitely is contageous and apparently our draft has caught a bad case of it.

Mike...thanks for the clock reset to 4 hours. Now let me be the first to urge that you set a 2 hour clock. The poli league has used a 1 1/2 hour clock w/o any bitching and what is usually a painfully slow draft has been clipping along nicely. The 4 hour clock has not created the necessary sense of urgency for the Yahoo AA managers,as we are still not close to two rounds in a day. Season starts quickly and I hope you see fit to tighten the clock again.
btw..you have done a bang up job on setting this league up.

|
81 | Khahan

Because a 240 min delay would just be ridiculous?
|
82 | Khahan
ID: 373143013 Thu, Mar 22, 2012, 13:48

Now I see the logic in it. Whether its intentional or not it gives him his full clock without him timing out. When he would have timed out and his pick would have been missed (ie the punishment for timing out) the auto pick took the top of his que and assigned that guy. So he gets his 4 full hours while we wait w/out risk of losing his pick.

Your queue was 'available' which means your designated picker(s) or the commish is free to make the selection.
|
95 | Elliott

So the commish is making my picks based on what is in my Queue since I don't have any designated picker.

Just turn your que to unavailable. Personally I think he should be able to take a mulligan on that pick. He never set anybody has a designated picker. The commish is one by default but that doesn't mean a person wants a dp.

If he wanted someone who has since been selected it becomes a significant problem as there is no mechanism to fix it. If the player he wanted hasn't been picked yet I can do something about it.

I doubt the draft will come back around to me today. However I am leaving soon for the weekend, heading up to the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos. I'll have my cell phone which I can monitor and make picks from but don't really know how often I'll be able to check in. I'm setting my 1st pick on a 1 hour delay, 2nd pick on no delay to keep things moving, however if my que empties please make a reasonable pick for me.
If by some chance we get to the end of round 25 by Sunday evening before I'm back JUST END. Throw a place holder in for me and I'll pick up somebody when I get back.

1 slight change - instead of doing 5 'pick based ques' with differnt timers, I just did a general que with a 1 hour timer. If it gets down to me and my odd round (first pick on the turn) times out at the 1 hour mark, feel free to go ahead and make my next pick (even round) for me immediately.
I've made taxman and valkyrie dp's for me along with MikeV having the ability.

No need to wait 3 hours between picks at this point in the draft. Set a queue, make it available, and lets finish this thing. I love to draft, but i feel like for the 1st time in a draft I have actually lost interest.

re 100
Mike, if his queue runs empty, I defer to you for making "a reasonable" pick for Khahan. I do not know of a reasonable pick this late in this deep of a draft...for him or me.

Had a chance to check in. At this point reasonable would be filling in holes I have with active players. At least for my nect 2 picksy que shouldn't run out. I probably won't get to check in again so just make my picks from que immediately for me Donnie.

well..I apologize...ran 3.5 hours on last pick.
No real excuse. When I left for grandson's b'day party at 9:45 this morning, we were still awaiting the days first pick ... 7 before my 1st with a second two picks later.
I had my first set on auto, but failed to set the 2nd. My bad.

when you miss a pick I thought you were supposed to continue missing picks until you made the original missed pick.

Figured 2 hours was enough. Wish he'd told me to make his picks as his queue is full.

Sorry guys thought I had put it on auto- was on live draft until late night and then I am on west coast and was victim of the east coast bias again. I think it was still 5am when I timed out? Chris sincerely sorry for any "ruining" I did gGt ot to admit I like Wiggs kind of lost interest somewhere among the 2 day no pick periods.

My team isn't loaded in Yahoo. I'm still getting the "Your commissioner must enter your offline draft results and hit the 'Begin Season' button in order for your league to begin play" message on the team page.

I have the same problem both with Mozilla and IE. Also on baseball 2012 menu Yahoo says our league hasn't drafted yet?

Now I know I'm in trouble. I've picked up 2 seattle hitters in the past week for my team.

Ugh, my AAA luck is bleeding over into this league. Now sitting on: Michael Morse Pablo Sandoval Daniel Hudson Vance Worley
all on the DL. Those aren't just filler guys or late round, "he won't hurt me too much" guys. Getting tough to field a team and make moves.

Khahan- I have 6 after cleaning a couple out- haven't been able to field a full roster for a couple weeks- they include Chipper, c. Santana, Gardner, Bay, A.Jackson and manny. Thats a starting 3B, C, and all 4 OFers. Not bitching it's part of the game- but I think it dwarfs your 4 .
