The first MLB game is March 31, so the draft should be started no later than March 15th.

First we do the math thingie and pick the picking order.

Then we use that to do select your draft picking slot. I forget if we do a straight snake or something tricky like we did for football. Anyone remember?

Please register ASAP for draft time. Invites going out in a sec.

I prefer third round reversal (i.e. the order for the 3rd and 4th rounds are reversed.) Judy thanks for being Commissioner yet again

ESPN invites sent: TD, GO, YR are already in from 2012. Seattle Zen, I messed your up so you get a new invite. Sorry about that.

If you did not get an invite to either Drafttime or ESPN, please let me know ASAP!!

Need a math person to run two sets of random numbers and then do the math thingie to set the order for picking a draft slot! Use the list in #8 above.

Any volunteers! You'll need to show your work in the thread and then we'll have someone confirm it. (I do it backwards according to guru which is why I farm out this task!!)

Thanks.

If you ask Guru nicely, he will run the random number generator. These numbers can be sent out to a few managers simultaneously.

I used Random.org to generate a random list from 1-16. I put that list next to the original list and reordered based on the new numbers and repeated.

ex. Aman started at 1 - first list of random numbers puts 13 next to his name so he moves to 13 on list #2 - second list of random numbers puts 9 next to his name so he moves to 9 on the final list.

"when"

Copy/paste this numerical list to the thread, add your name to your preferred draft slot.

(Note that Seattle Zen is on vacation until 3-5)

Expected completion date: Sunday March 10th. If we seem to be really behind in this, I might be emailing the next person in line...

Draft to open Tuesday March 12 -- probably around noon, untimed to begin. More on that later.

Not sure. He has limited access (#7), but was able to sign into ESPN.
So we will just start, with the expectation that we may stall out until March 5th...just so everyone knows about it and does not start screaming for him to PICK ALREADY!!
20mjd

I propose waiting until either Zen checks in or March 4th (the day prior to Zen's return), whatever comes first, to start picking.

Since he's the 3rd to pick..... I'm still pondering my options. I'd hate like hell to pick, targeting player X, only to have him injured or suspended for this latest PED thing, while waiting several days for Zen to pick.

The whole point in scheduling the draft for mid March is to wait as long as possible to draft to get the latest info on players, while giving us ample time to complete the draft before the season starts.

Now that Zen has the resource to find his order to pick, he can leave a Q with Judy (or on this thread) as to his intentions and we can proceed. Makes no sense to me to have the first 2 managers pick, only to wait as long as 5 days for him to pick. It'd be different if he had a lower pick.

It's still very early and we're ahead of every other league in this format.

In the mean time, please check our thread and/or monitor your email in case he's able to check in prior to Monday, March 4th.

Thanks, guys, for your patience. I am renoun for not making people wait during the regular draft, so don't think this is a sign of things to come. I was away from the Internet for four and a half days, it's been years since that last happened. And a big "woo hoo!" for the first pick.

FYI
I am on vacation and will set up drafttime Monday night or Tuesday morning. It will open untimed with no pressure to pick -- HOWEVER, if you do not plan to pick within a few hours, please use this thread to tell us.

The draft will open officially March 15 (unless someone objects) and at that point we will become really annoyed if you take forever (more than a few hours...) to pick without letting us know!!

Note that the draft does NOT stop for the weekend!!

Got it?

I will be on a golfing vacation in Myrtle Beach from Tuesday March 12th - Sunday March 17th. Before March 15th, I will not be using queues, so my picks may take more than a few hours. Starting March 15th, I will set up queues for my picks and I won't be delaying the draft.

RIBC is using a 4 hour clock.

Unlike other years in Judy's leagues, I think we'll need it this year.

Once someone goes MIA for 8 or 10 hours, there's no getting that time back. And it tends to have a cumulative effect, as people tire of checkng in only to see no progress.

I think we should just use the clock starting tomorrow.

I will monitor the clock today. Here is what I will do.

We need to be at pick #5.06 by 1:00 pm Saturday or there will be 4 hour clock with overnight pause.

So everyone needs to be prepared to make two picks, rounds 3, 4 and part of 5.

No excuses for not being ready to pick at noon today. You know who you are!

I'm headed out for a ultra marathon while my array of computers crunches the numbers I got from CERN regarding their supposed discovery of the Higgs Boson.

I like to run around Lake Crescent by way of the Olympic Discovery trail and the Adventure spur during daytime and head back on Hwy 101 overnight because there are fewer cars and I pick up my pace on the way back so as to not be run over by one of them. It's about a 70 mile loop, it clears my head.

My array should be done by then. This so called "God particle" is not what they claim it is, just by eyeballing the data it is obvious that the particle does not have arms, legs, and flowing white robe and beard. Who do they think they are kidding? Any moron with a few thousand processors working in concert can show their flaws.

When that is done, I'll check back in, cross off the four or five players selected and make a queue :)

it happened again. I sit here all day waiting to pick Josh Rutledge only to see him go 1 pick too early. I don't know which plan I am on right now it is definitely not 1a, 1b or 1c. it is more like 4f.

I am also betting that all players that I looked at with this pick won't be there when I am up again. and no, some of them were taken much later in other drafts (incl RIBC and G20), so this should not be the case.

Sorry for the problems I have caused. Judy, to your point about emails... I apologize for never responding to any of them. Those emails were received at an account I do not frequently check and is not synced up with my phone. It's also one not linked to my draftime account or ESPN account... not sure how you got that one (from another league I guess?), but if I had seen them I would most certainly have responded.

You guys had very interesting draft - GO doing SP 6 of his first 6 picks and Mmikula the same w/ 3/3.

I'll be curious to read their write ups (hoping they do them). But I'm also curious what some of the reactions are from others in the league and how it affected your strategies.

I already mentioned, and I think twilson also that at the 3/4 turn there were none of the pitchers there we were expecting. I had to reach a bit for Bumgarner, then had to back that one up with Gallardo for my next pick. Not a huge deal, but I was expecting something like Gio or Darvish at the 3/4 turn.

But I'm also curious what some of the reactions are from others in the league and how it affected your strategies.

I loved it, myself, because I had no intention of drafting one of the first ten starters and when so many pitchers come off the board early, it causes guys like Nerf to reach for Bumgarner. In my universe, I would never take Bumgarner when the likes of Adam Jones, Alan Craig, Matt Holliday and BJ Upton are on the board.

The past four years I have been sold on the "wait for pitching" strategy in deep leagues like RIBC. It has become a popular mantra and if you have too many people subscribe to it in the same draft, pitching bargains can appear. Hell, last night I got Clayton Kershaw at number 19!

No, I generally want bats early and I didn't stray from that plan as the starters flew off the board, it simply meant I got better bats. I am more than happy with Chris Sale and James Shields as my top two. Most top teams will have over ten different pitchers start games for them, even in a 16 team league there are excellent streaming possibilities. You will not find a RA Dickey every year, but you certainly will have some surprise undrafted starters come out of nowhere and contribute.

Khahan, if anything I helped make the draft interesting! Also, I am the reason that Guru tabulated all those totals up for RIBC through the years, we were doing some research on what I was trying out. So we'll see how it goes.

Also remember I trade more than anybody in history, so I was trying to build positions of strength to better set up trading scenarios.

155 - don't worry GO. I wasn't questioning you or thinking bad. Like I said, i thought it was very interesting. And I've seen you trade plenty before. I've been in enough leagues with you to know you had a game plan. I was really more curious how your game plan affected everybody elses. Especially in fantasy baseball where people plan strats based on when players *should* be available and what players shouldnt be.

I would think your strategy would throw a real monkey-wrench into people's game plans. Some people already mentioned reaching for pitchers, but I wonder how many others feel they got great deals on hitters they didn't expect to be there.

Depending on how you do next year will be interesting in the ribc's draft. How many people will try to GO pitchers and if 2 or 3 go all out will they just screw each other up and make it not work? Could be funny, tbh.

I guess all eyes are on me, so the pressure is on for sure... I do feel I made a mistake with my 5th/6th picks of closers Motte/Soriano. Should have gotten a 5th/6th starters there and really pushed it... but the guys like Halladay were there that I really didn't trust at all.

SP I passed on to go with those -- Aroldis, Zimmerman, Halladay, Schrezer, Morrow, Shields and Matt Moore. Didn't love any of these. I actually think Shields is in the best spot but didn't want to reach on his ADP.

Had Gallardo been there -- my plan was Gallardo + one closer. He went one pick before I could do it I believe so that screwed me up a bit.

I think Scherzer would have been perfect for you. He'll add more K's than just about anybody left on the board and while his era/whip aren't stellar, they aren't horrible and will be more than offset by the rest of your pitching staff. For me, Scherzer would have sealed the deal on K's w/out hurting % stats and left you with a valuable trade piece later in the season. Shields would have been another high K pitcher. The 2 of them along w/ the other 4 you got would have set an historical pace for ribc, I'm sure.

More $$$= injuries with less incentive to play through them.

Wiith guaranteed contracts only the fringe players concerned about getting Wally Pipped.

I can foresee some difficult roster decisions being made by fantasy teams attempting to field full lineups this season, especially this format with no DL and a short bench.

I was actually looking forward to reading twilson's rationales since he was on my end of the draft.
